Please report any problem with this firmware, I can't verify this custom firmware works as I don't have a Vido Yuandao N80 tablet to test the custom firmware.

Just thought I would provide an update. The 4.2.2 version from kasty works fine, better than stock and better than the rooted 4.1.1 on rockchipfirmware.com. It's not dramatically better but you can tell the difference. One problem I still have with the version is that I cannot get the compass nor the light sensor to work even though Hardware Info says they exist. I've tried multiple compass programs with no luck and there is no auto brightness on the screen.

I suspect there is either a problem with the hardware (does anyone else have this working?) or a problem with the firmware. I've tried stock on this tablet as well with no luck, the sensors have never worked except for the gravity sensor and the orientation.

Something curious with my N80. I am sitting at work with WiFi on with my N80RK and my Samsung Galaxy S3. I run Ookla SpeedTest from the N80 and from the S3 and the speeds are as follows:

N80RK

Down – 0.07 Mbps

Up – 19.81 Mbps

S3

Down – 7.28 Mbps

Up – 12.07 Mbps

The download on the N80RK doesn't seem to be very high at all and I've noticed dropouts elsewhere. I've rebooted, cleared caches dumped a few apps off the device that I thought may be using bandwidth but no luck, doesn't want to go very fast at all.

Ideas?

A followup, turned out to be the proxy settings for the link. Once I fixed that it was ok. However, I do notice that sometimes the browser (Chrome) hangs for an inordinate period of time, asks me if I want to Wait or Report error, I hit Wait and it finally comes back.

A new custom firmware with latest update is in the works.

Here are some pointers about firmware flashing on Rockchip tablets:

Rockchip Batch Tool version 1.7

Flashing a new image to your IFive X2 (should work about the same on the N80)

We are working on improving our firmware flashing guide in the future.

Cheers.

Thanks for the quick answer and the guide link. I'll wait for the new rom and try flashing it ;)

I've run into a general problem with this version of the rom. The tablet will periodically lapse into periods of unresponsiveness. It usually takes a reboot to fix it. It's also pretty regular. I do note that when it is unresponsive there is a process called rknand_buffer that takes up about 6-7% of the CPU. When this happens I get a lot of popups indicating various processes are taking too long and do I want to stop them.

Is this a known problem with this ROM? Is there any fix?

Well the only thing that comes to mind is to try reflashing. Maybe it will fix it, since I run the same rom and am pretty happy with it so far.

Any tricks for the flash? Should you clear anything before or after thethe flash? What about the sdcard? Does this need to be reset/reformatted as well?

When I flashed it I followed the instructions from the oma rom topic, there are links in there. Also I dont know if I am supposed tho write it here, but there is one guy Riley fromaktab forums and his instrucions are nothing but wonderful and comprehensive. Hope that helps you. :-)

Once you flash the image, which is pretty easy, there is nothing more to do, correct? You don't have to clear any cache or reset anything else?

Just thought I would provide a followup. I finally gave up and burned the 4.2.2 2013/09/10 version of the kasty ROM (rooted). This, so far, works much better, the lags have all disappeared and the interface is snappy. I'm not sure if it was a problem with the 07/26 kasty ROM or some application on the tablet but again, it's back to being snappy. rknand_buffer no longer appears as a CPU hog, which is great.

I have put most but not all apps back on the N80RK, the main one missing is Nova Launcher. Perhaps that was causing all the problems??? Anyway, if for some reason it returns to it's old laggy self, then I will post another update but at this point, I'm loving the quick interface. Yeah!!!

Looking forward to Android 4.4 Kitkat to be released for the N80RK. Does anyone have any idea when this may happen?

The n80rk has 2 gigs of ram as far as I know. I remember yuandao released original firmware with some sortta bug that made the device think it has only 1 GB. Thats what i gathered form the vidofans forum thanks to google translate :P
