hello
if the keys are flashing on each second when the tablet is connected to a power source, the tablet is in a state called flashing mode

You need to let the tablet to charge for several hours, and then press the power key for more then 30 seconds while is connected to a power source, if you don`t get any results, try without the power source, again, more than 30 seconds.

If it works, feel free to donate, because I just saved your tablet from being a brick.

What Works:

-Thethering WIFI (if 3g work)

-Skype video call

Does not Work:

-Bluetooth

-3G to be verified

INSTALLATION:

INTRODUCTION: If you install this rom with his Loader, there may be a problem of NOT DOWNGRADE, I'm doing a variety of evidence doing a restore from the recovery I found myself with brickato tab, so I say THAT I DO NOT TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY 'for any damage to your tablet.

To install unpack the archive, run RK29Update, leave the Loader is not selected, do EraseIDB, then Run!

Recovery will be installed with the original version, if you want I have also attached the CWM Recovery Touch, I have not more mass but if you want .....

If it does not go to fruition the flash remake all over again, but this time select the Loader v2.28 (see INTRODUCTION).

After downloading the package of FIX (copy on your external SD-Card before), here are the files for the rotation sensor, the file Vold.fstab and build.prop.

The file "sensors.goldfish.so" and "sensors.rk29board.so" should be placed in the folder "system / lib / hw /" just copied the tablet reboots itself, you will now have the rotation working.

Vold.fstab Then copy the file to the folder "system / etc" and reboot. You will now have the internal memory functioning, and the door usb standard usb working for usb memory etc ...

Take the build.prop file and copy (use Solid Explorer or Root Explore) it to the folder "system" and reboot.

Last step to get the full Play Store, after much tribulation are managed with an app, it's called Market Helper, here the link: http://codekiem.com/2013/02/13/market-helper/, download and install it, then choose the model you want, i put Tablet Nexus 7, goes to great!

The file is in the archive recovery touch FIX, if you want to try do it at your own risk!

Advice that, you can just install the Busybox updated, improves some programs, such as Titanium, Teamviewer ....

Sorry for the excitement! It 's the first time I'm on the other side of the fence!

Link FIX: https://www.box.com/s/x97vjwcqps25dptdxsos

I have heard that it is released and it isn't an app, but an api. So i'm just saying to all developers that is there a way to input the api into the Arnova and many other devices' firmware? Thank you and please give positive suggestions

wait for the tablet to reboot, connect the tablet to the pc (the screen should be black all the time when you are in flashing mode) install the drivers

you should try what you said in the upper rows without connecting the tablet to any type of power source, do this only if the above method does not work.

OK this is driving me nuts too.

So, I have an Arnova 10BG3 and I rather like the look of the jellybean custom firmware.

I downloaded the firmware, downloaded the flash tool, watched the videos, read the instructions ...

The thing that is missing from your instructions is when to connect the USB cable to the tablet.

SO I have the tablet connected to the PC, and I shut it down. My speakers make the usual "ker-thunk" noise as the USB connection is "lost". As this point with the tablet off I fire up the flashing tool and yes I ran it as admin because this is w7.

Next I push the volume+ button as instructed , THEN put the paperclip in the reset hole while holding down the volume+ key. And I count to about 30. Then I remove the paperclip and let go of the volume+ key.

Within about a second my PC makes the ker-pling sound as a new USB device is found, then disaster, a big box saying "usb device not recognised" and error 43 windows stopped this as the device reported problems.

I mentioned running the program as administrator in w7.

I also have an XP machine. I tried with that and get the same "usb device not recognised" error.

I get the same error if I try resetting with the tablet on, and if I leave the uSB cable out and connect it after I release the paperclip and volume+ key.

I also tried releasing the volume+ key before taking out the paperclip, no joy.

I salute our venerable poster of a few posts back. Madam, your achievements are made all the more remarkable by the fact I am perhaps not quite a decade your junior, but I have spent the last three decades as a computer programmer of all things from missiles to radars to bank call centre websites.

And I cannot get this (expletive deleted) piece of .... (ok i am sure you get the idea, I'm sure I need not draw you a picture, right?)

And I managed to root, back out an Hboot, set up an SOFF and put cyanogenmod on an HTC wildfire and root a galaxy Ace i so it's not as if I'm a newcomer to this poke that push this business. with these pieces of so calle technology.

So what in the wide wide world of sport am I doing wrong to repeatedly get these USB not recognised error messages ?

still you will have adb working to be able to use that.

Other method is to get the tablet in recovery mode, and restore`it to factory state, tough i don`t know how to do that on this particular tablet.

Ps: Stop using caps lock.

Ok, I opened My tablet, found the "secret switch" and put it in Vimicro superdrive mode. Had to try a couple of time to do this as nothing shows that you have succeeded (screen stays black, you only know you did it by connecting the usb cable to a PC).

I maintained the hidden switch, then maintained the power switch too, then hit reset. You have to do it again to revert the tablet in normal mode (self-rememberer : next time, do it before screwing it back closed...).

So I moved to the next step : finding what MPTools is.
I finally found a copy of it inside an upgrade pack for another tablet (in french) - direct link to the software pack file (zip password is : http://www.chinistore.com).

I tried to launch it but stopped there as it is an extremely complicated tool that require advanced understanding of what you are doing... which I do not have (along with the correct ini files commented in chinese that are needed to flash a tablet...). BTW, you have to change the language.ini file to switch the tool to English as it is in Chinese too by default.

So, here I am stuck. I reverted my ChildPad to normal boot and I will wait for a specialist to investigate this case further.

I would be glad to help by dumping my tablet... but I do not know where to start and how to do it.

If you can guide me and it doesn't require that I wreck it, I can try.

Hello all , I am experiencing exactly the same problem.

I think there was a hardware and/or software update in the latest batch of ChildPad. I just had to change mine due to a hardware failure, and the new one, although coming in the exact same box, runs a slightly different version of the system and software package.

For exemple :

- the animated wallpapers are not the same as in the old ones (no more "bubbles", which my kids liked a lot)

- when I plug the childpad in my computer, I am asked by an android bot if I want to switch to USB hard drive. If I choose yes, the internal memory and card just show up in my drive list. The former ChildPad I had just popped as a multimedia device in "My computer" view without asking anything, whenever I plugged it in.

- The video player cannot go fullscreen anymore, there is always an android bar at the bottom (with icons replaced by dots as long as you do not touch the screen), which is really annoying.

- A new "upgrade" app appeared. When I launch it it just shows a black screen whith current version of the system (AN7DG3B 2012.12.13 1.07) and an upgrade button. When I push the button, il just asks for an "upgrade.zip", so I downloaded any possible firmware image (including the official one from Arnovatech), zipped it, put it in the root folder and tried to upgrade => the result is always "Your update.zip Validation failure!" (sic)

As soon as I have some time, I will try to open the device to check if I can go to recovery mode with the help of the hidden button, then try Rockchip to patch it (I used it without any porblem to hack my former childpad, thanks to this site!). As other told on the other thread, I have no idea what MP Tools is, so I cannot really try it.

One last detail : maybe we are all experiencing this first hand because we are all French. Archos is a French company, they could have started shipping a new evolution of the device locally...

Anyways, I hope I can manage to force Google Play in it, because I had absolutely no idea of how shitty appslib was when I bought this (otherwise rather good) tablet for my son.

Without Google Play installed, it's just a useless piece of crap I would never recommend to anyone.

Hello,

I just tried to install the ICS (CWM) version for the 10 G2 (http://www.arctablet.com/blog/featured/arnova-10-g2-android-403-ics-custom-firmware-updateroot-google-play-store-released/) and forgot to check the questions (and the answers) about compatibility with the 10b G2 Dual touch. Which wasn't smart, as it's not compatible. I tried to install the firmware from arnova, but that doesn't seem to be a correct version. It hangs in the calibration cycle.

Is there any hope for my tablet? I tried to update, as the stock firmware was crap. (or FUBAR by my meddling) What is the most resent (leanest) firmware that can be installed? (and where to find it, as it;s obviously not at arnova)

Edit: found posting http://www.arctablet.com/blog/forum/arnova-10b-g2/google-play-store-android-market-root-bluetooth-gps-for-the-arnova-10b-g2-capacitive-and-resistive-dt/#p22470 and was able to revive the tablet with this image.

Thanks in advance

Thanks Arctablet (and Kasty.. is this a person ?) for this awesome firmware !!

That fw give a second life for our arnova 10G2.

No problem to flash, good reactivity, well look, just a few things less better : the timeboot a little too long (but i am comparing with finless rom 2.2pro), chrome & firefox crashes and above all we can't move apps to sd (but it seems that ics is in cause).

I test the method to switch internal to external sd but I failed, if someone have a tips

THX for the good job.

Thanks for the good work. I flashed the new rom right after it was published and runs without a problem. However, according to Android assistant I only have 228 Mb's of RAM. Is the other halve reserved for Android?

If the tablet is not booting the only way that remains to get the tablet in the flashing mode, is the combination of keys pressed
From what i know on the 7b g2 is
-insert a paper clip in the reset pinhole
-while you keep the pinhole pressed, press also the power button.
-while you keep them both pressed, connect the tablet to the usb cable

It depends on situation, the screen may function at a certain value, or may not function at all.

Thanks for the steps. That is a new one for me but it hasn't worked like the rest of them. It looks like I'll have to admit defeat and accept that the tablet is completely 'bricked'.

You can use a terminal application to get the tablet in flashing mode, just type in the terminal
reboot bootloader

Or if you know how to use adb
adb reboot bootloader

And the tablet will enter in flashing mode.

You can get in the the flashing mode also by using adb or a terminal app from google play
adb reboot bootloader
this is the command that will get the tablet in flashing mode.

Thank you for replying back.

Will a bumped screen still display or does the screen and/or connections need replaced?

Do you know the name of any terminal app's that I can use without the use of the tablet as it is not booting?

Did anyone find any success when the original "reset button in then power button in for a couple of seconds" didn't work?

I'm having the same problem with my nephews G2.

Also, is it a worry that the normal off screen has a purple tinge to it? The G2 won't turn on at all so that is why I'm trying to flash it and put the firmware back on.

Thanks,

Having quite some experience in building custom firmwares for Archos and Arnova tablets, we should be able to provide a firmware with root and Google Play Store installation for the Arnova 90 G3.

Still, it's another tablet we'd need to buy and we are asking for support from users interested in such a firmware. Feel free to use the donation link in my signature to help us buying an Arnova 90 G3 so we'll soon be able to prepare a custom firmware.

I am trying to flash my arnova 7 G2 but am having little success. I have put it in recovery mode and connected it to my PC and loaded the drivers(win7 64bit)so that the PC sees it however rockchip 1.5 does not get the green light recognising it.

I am relatively new to all this, is there something I have done wrong or something I can do to get rockchip to recognise it with the green light?

Thanks

OK after playing with it for a week whilst on the road (lorry driver) ,like the sim card slot that uses any network card, also micro sd slot fo extra storage.

The google play is def a big bonus to have, also the other bits an bats added are very good.

Tried the gps/sat nav with a few free maps off play store (as good as tomtom/garmin etc) and they worked remarkably well, gps lock was quick,re routing was also quick and for 39 euros could even have the tom tom truck map on it, (wish i could get it free lol).

so very pleased with the end result, it now makes a good tablet for my needs on the road.for £70 all in a very versatile 7 inch tablet.

Hello @ all

i have a childpad and have also the problem with the recovery mode. Its not possible to bring this thing in recovery mode. Why i have to screw up a new Device? Why its not possible to do a "normal" Update? We (my Son and I) need the Google Play Store! Because the AppSlip is just pretty Sh...! Why Arnova sell a Product which is not able to get Updated? Another thing is, if i use the Costum Firmware my W-LAN or/and the Touchscreen works not as it should to be and the Guarantee is also gone... I have also read in other Forums that after a Flash the Childpad wont start up it just hang at the Arnova Logo. Many Childpad User are really Upset about that. Could some one tell me why i should buy a Arnova Device anymore? This is my last try, if i get no Google Play Store i sell this thing on ebay.....

Greetz from Germany Papa

You may be able to press the inside button by pressing hard on the white back cover about 4 cm straight in from the reset pinhole (the location is from memory, I had it opened 6 weeks ago, so it may be a little off). You can feel it give a little on the plastic there.

I used this instruction with my Windows 7 64 bit and it worked perfectly on my Arnova 8G2.

You just get a blank screen on the Arnova when it's ready to be flashed so it's a bit confusing at first.

I got device manager up on the screen and I plugged the tab into my machine, pressed the power button and reset and waited for a changed in device manager. I then pointed the unknown device to the driver (rockusb) and it worked a treat.

Cheers

Hi all...

I have problem with charging my an7g3... I have many USB-microUSB cables but they dont charging the device, only keeping it ON. Battery seems to be charging but its not. 6 month ago i purchased usb cable from samsung phone and everything was fine. But now it started againg.

1) Cable works fine with data transfers from PC. (Also flashing ROM)

2) When tablet is turned off its charging normally.

3) When its turned ON its not charging, only keeping it on until 0%. And battery goes down very slowly.

4) Sometimes when brightness is low and not using internet or wathing videos battery level goes up but very slowly. Feeling like not enough energy.

5) At very low brightness screen is blinking.

Is there eny different between USB cables for data transfer and charging USB cables???

I tried 5 cables but all same... The last one (from samsung phones) was working 6 month. Now its like other cables...

I hope someone will understand my English

So guys sifting through the build.prop, I discovered that the DPI of the tablet are not set correctly, I found that there is' the line indicating Density DPI rightly put at 160, but the front has the "#" symbol must remove it and put it back on board as the other lines, reboot, and voila 'you have the correct DPI as it should be!

Try if you like, otherwise put it back how it was and return the original.

Previously in testing I found how to recognize the SDCARD as Internal Memory principal.

You have to download the app from the Market 2 Root External Internal SD, here's the link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.codlab.int2ext&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImV1LmNvZGxhYi5pbnQyZXh0Il0

You launch and in the settings you need to choose the part above where it says Options SGS3, where there is' written External sdcard click and change the word "extsdcard", and

put "external_sd", then under the word "/ dev/block/vold/179.49" and edit it in "/ dev/block/vold/179.1", return to the main menu and click "Internal / External" then

on "At Boot init.d enable" outputs and try to see if a file explorer has been exchanged, if everything is OK then reopen the app and click "At Boot" check box, and then raised the re-click and

then rehabilitated "At Boot" then reappear check, quit and restart and you will see that you will have all the automatic forever!

Greetings to all user ICS!!

mcsgeek said
I stumbled accross a fix for the boot issue in "kasty_oma-arn10bg3-41-046-2G" by replacing /system/framework/services.jar with the one I attached below. This is from NEOCM's battery fix. Strangely enough this will fix the battery issue in "kasty_oma-arn10bg3-41-045-1_5G" and the boot issue in "kasty_oma-arn10bg3-41-046-2G".

After using the trick of unplugging the power cable and reseting with a paperclip then plugging the power cable back in at the second ARNOVA screen, simply replace /system/framework/services.jar and your home free.

You will need a root enabled browser and overwrite /system/framework/services.jar with this one and you will instantly be forced to reboot. From then on I have had no boot issues with "kasty_oma-arn10bg3-41-046-2G". I also tested on "kasty_oma-arn10bg3-41-045-1_5G" and it does fix the battery issue as well.

Please test for yourself.

If there's one thing I've learnt from my mistake, that's not to uninstall BusyBox!! It's now back to playing with the Tablet and Linux for me, and find some more apps to fill this device up with.....

Liam said
Ok, so I did it!! It was VERY difficult, but it is possible.

First, enable USB debugging and connect it to your computer. Windows will automatically find the driver via windows update.

Second, download this file: http://liamwli.co.uk/gbook_root.zip

Now, extract the contents somewhere.

Now, the tricky part. You need to enable temporary root. I discovered this by accident, but you can do it by pressing the 'USB Debugging' option several times, ignoring the popup, and then selecting OK on the final one. This will enable temporary root. THIS MUST BE DONE BEFORE YOU RUN THE APP!!!!!

Once temporary root is enabled, run the .bat file. YOU HAVE ROOT!

Hi Liam,

unfortunately the Link to gbook_root.zip does not work is there an alternative download location?

Thanx in advance

Install 7zip or Winrar, right click on the file, extract here or right click -> 7zip -> open and then move the file that appears in the new window to the desktop by drag and drop.

You should get an .img file on the desktop.

Regards

After messing up my Arnova 7G3 just over 24hours ago, I'm now fully back up and running thanks to a man who, spent over 2 and a half hours remotely connected to my PC and working his fingers off to get it working again! This person is none other than @globula_neagra and he explained everything what he was doing and also put up with my accidently rebooting the device!

I didn't realise how much I missed this low end Tablet PC, as I use it on a daily basis, esoecially when I'm not in front of my PC, and also when my disability really gets the better of me, and I'm stuck in bed, I'm still able to keep in touch with friends and family, but anyway, this post is to thank this guy so much!

If anyone has a so called "Bricked" Arnova 7G3, and @globula_neagra has the time, he will try his best to fix it! I'm now running the latest stock firmware dump from the first post, and the device seems to run quicker than before!

Big thanks also to this Website and Forum, for if it wasn't for you guys, we Archos & Arnova Tablet PC owners would have to go elsewhere and have to put up with the dreaded Appslib!!
