After 2,5 years from purchase I continue to use my ARCHOS 70H Gen 8 !

I have a new tablet, but my Hard drive based old freind is always in great shape.

I moved button bar on notification bar to have full screen.

Now I would like to have an app that move also notification bar.

can you suggest me something ?

Hello, from what I know, there is no custom firmware based on the last update, no one dumped the firmware so we can build a new rooted one.
We don`t detain any more (me, or admin) the 80 titanium to dump the updated firmware.
The community should step in and dump the newer firmware.

To answer to your question, yes it will revert back to the first firmware

Archos upload the archos 70 titanium update.zip file (http://www.archos.com/support/support_tech/updates_fwm.html?country=gb&lang=en). But it's not a rk image, we can't modify this zip without break the checksum.

They are focusing on the first models with larger screen Platinum 50 (5") and Platinum 53 (5.3") that were demonstrated on the show. ARCHOS Smartphones pricing is announced as follows: ARCHOS 35 Carbon: 79,99€ / £79.99 (that is ~$105), ARCHOS 50 Platinum: 199,99€ / £179.99 (~ $260) and ARCHOS 53 Platinum: 249,99€ / £199.99 (~ $326)

For a first appearance, the ARCHOS Smartphones seem to leave a good impression to lachainetechno.tv, in their video video (in French) they seem to be enthusiastic about the features for the price, but stressed the screen limitations (qHD, 960x540 pixels resolution) and front camera low resolution, compared to current mid or high-end phones.

This firmware has been tested by me and works fine.

I got the tablet in flashing move via adb with the command
adb reboot bootloader
Installed the rockchip drivers
Opened the rockchip flashing tool and selected the firmware and used the RESTORE option to flash.

Hi guys,

I need some help plz.

I tried to follow the steps described in post 3 to root my titanium 80.

I used Rockchip Batch Tool and update.img in kasty-titanium80-41-test1.

The usb driver was detected, the green light was on in Rockchip tool, I press upgrade, everything goes fine and it says at the end Success.

The tablet reboots at the end and I get recovery system v4.1, after few moments the tablet reboots again and it starts.

I tried to check if I have root access using Root Checker app and it seems that I dont have root access which means the procedure failed.

I have tried two times.

Any help plz ??

After the disappearance of the ARCHOS 70 Titanium in the ARCHOS online store and the many delays in shipping the Platinum tablet series, two updated models have been presented at the HKTDC Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Spring Edition) 2013 and were filmed by Charbax video blogger.

ARCHOS 97b Platinum

The main difference with the regular ARCHOS 97 Platinum is the processor which is a Rockchip RK3188 instead of the Boxchip Allwinner A31. No release date has been given, the 97b Platinum "might come soon" according to ARCHOS representative on the show.

ARCHOS 70b titanium

The ARCHOS 70 Titanium has made a short appearance on ARCHOS Store but is not listed anymore for buying and should probably be soon replaced with a new 70b Titanium model. The specifications of the 70b are similar to the older model, with 7" screen, dual-core Rockchip RK3066 processor at 1.6 GHz Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, HDMI output and micro SDCard, new updated features are a full alumium backcase and a 1280x800 resolution instead of 1024x600. No mention of Bluetooth support has been made, so the device should be missing this feature as most recent ARCHOS Elements tablets do. The ARCHOS 70b Titanium should be available in a month at a price of $129 / £109 and probably about €129. It's a decent competitor for the Hyundai T7 tablet which offers slightly more features (GPS, Bluetooth) for the price.

Afer some days I noticed gamepad gets lag, not only my rom, oficial one has it too, but there is an easy fix.

Using ES File Explorer or another root explorer go to /system/app/ and inside that route create a folder called ori.

Move MediaProvider.apk and MediaProvider.odex inside the ori folder (both are on /system/app/), restart the gamepad and enjoy the lack of lag.

I dont know what causes this, but afer doing what I said the lag disapeared. It works even with 64GB cards, but you need to format then into fat32 first.

First of all thanks to sigma.nl, for his JFG firmware, and to the spanish guy creator of the auto microsd swap and the best boot screen for our gamepad.

I used this 2 firmwares as a base to mine. The specs are:

- Rooted

- Removing unnecessary applications but in Google Play (Plus One, Maps, Streets, etc …)

- Elimination of the Chinese character keyboard.

- Antutu benchmark

- Blackmart

- ES File explorer

- All Archos apps (you can remove them if you dont want them)

- Auto swap between internal memory and microSD card

- Boot screen with a gamepad image with android logo

- Improved performance of RAM, CPU and GPU.

At this moment there is no other ROM besides the stock one, and some derivation of it, all are based on 4.0.4.
We do wait for Archos to release a new one, we can not compile a new one because the source code is not released.
The tablet is allready near the maximum clock, also the source code is required to compile an overclockble kernel.

Hey guys, i got a Archos 80 cobalt and its running on android 4.0.4

But i'm wondering if there is anybody with the same tablet that knows how to install custom roms or update android (not official) above 4.0.4 , I tryed many Rom apps but they all say its not possible and such.

Also am i curious if there is anybody that overclocked there 80 Cobalt tablet.

I am aware of the overclock risks and custom rom risks.

I am running build number V1.0.29, I downloaded the paid version from google play, but when clicking on the game icon it tells me, update check, then insufficient memory, saying 1658mb isv required for the game, incert or clear space on your sd memory card to begin download.

I have 6.12gb internal and 19.8gb sd, any advice?

I'm not able to obtain flash mode with vol- and power etc...no detecting by my pc.

I did use the same cable and usb hub that have detected my tablet when it was in recovery mode.

I could try with an another pc but it is win8 64, is there a driver for that os?

While we haven't much heard of the Xenon models, ARCHOS product line based supporting 3G feature, a new ARCHOS 80 Xenon is now showing on product stores such Amazon Germany revealing some of the product specs. This model would be an 8 inches Android tablet, with a Quad-Core CPU running at 1.2 GHz, 1 GB of RAM, 4 GB of storage. With a retail price of €225.92, the product is currently pre-selling and no availability date is given at the moment.

The processor spec could make us think of an Allwinner A31/A31S chip, but it is not particularly designed for 3G operations and a Qualcomm 8225Q processor (Snapdragon S4 Play) such as the one used in recent ARCHOS Smartphones could be a better candidate. We actually get more specification details on other online shops such as pc21.fr which displays a retail price of €160.32 with different hardware specs, for instance showing a dual-core processor instead of the quad-core listed on Amazon.

Did you activate the Development Options on your device? That was the solution for me, while Win7 64bit does not find a correct driver wihtin the RocksubDriver directory

This is ROOT for archos GamePad:

extract

connect usb cable to GamePad and PC

copy the file gamepadROOT.zip to the root of the external SD

launch RKAndroidTool.exe from extracted folder

turn off your tablet

turn on the tablet with vol+ vol- and power pressed

rktool recognize the tablet

click on FlashRom

the tablet reboot in CWM

install zip from sd card

select install from external sd

select gamepadroot.zip in root on external sd

install and reboot

your firmware is ROOTED!!!!!!

this work with any firmware

I followed the tutorial as explained above, but I always find myself at square one, my windows vista 64, finds no compatible driver in the RockusbDriver directory, then I tried on my other computer with windows seven 32 , same thing!

I was at the robot like in picture but stuck there...i then plug the tablet to my pc and it detected a device for the first time but failed to install driver...i have try to install rockchip driver to reflash but failed again...

I have tried to reflash with my win7 64 desktop. (Lg cable from usb hub on the back of pc)

The desktop does not ask for driver and no sound of detecting device.

I did that process=

- long recharge

-long press power to shut down

-vol- and power and connect to pc

Hi,

I need help...please!!!

After 2 hours with my brand new tablet, it has freeze using pressreader apps.

I have reset it and it refuse to boot.

I did a long recharge and it restart after, but it has freesed again after the lock screen. Recharge ad restart but freeze at archos pub....now nothing after another reset and recharge!!!

Big problem i think???

Actually, we would not take this assumption for granted, as we think the Samsung Galaxy SIII and ARCHOS 50 Platinum smartphones can hardly be compared, their hardware is really different, from the CPU to the screen (Samsung model has about 2x more pixels) both offer different performance and features which probably result in a really different user experience, at a different price.

Ok! I managed to get root on my Archos97TiHD, with what i assume, by following these steps:

Created system.loop,
made a backup copy of it before changing anything,
mounted system.loop,
changed permissions of install-recovery.sh 'chmod 644 install-recovery.sh' (actually i commented out few lines on this file, but i guess this involves more risks if script errors out during boot process due inproper editing - how should i know)
unmounted and flashed system.loop back to tablet with './rkflashtool w 0x00154000 0x00100000 < system.loop'.

Then, i searched the web for "supersu installer zip",
got the zip from "[03.03.2013] SuperSU v1.25 - xda-developers" thread, copied zip file to my tablet.

Then, i flashed cwm recovery.img to tablet, booted to recovery as described in howto, followed cwm instructions to install this zip i previously copied. Rebooted, and finally, i had root access!

I actually, previously, adventured some more with other methods too, played with adb, got the tablet to reboot loop, flashed back previously done backup of system.loop, (blindly)playing with cwm seemed to help me out of it.

Thanks for a how-to, but could you please elaborate about these flashings steps.

Like - where to get zip with su binaries? Is the 'sdcard' the same "root" directory on tablet to copy an official update.zip file to when updating? What to do with install-recovery.sh to prevent it from reversing the changes?

The ZIP file can be found by googling for "supersu installer zip"...

This zip file should be copied to the root directory of the sdcard and can then be installed by booting into CWM recovery, selecting "install zip from sdcard" and then there you can select files from your sdcard.

The install-recovery.sh can either be set to no execution permission with chmod 644 install-recovery.sh

or you can edit the file with an texteditor and uncomment all lines with a "#" (I left out the last log line).

But be warned again, you should know what you are doing because changing such things can prevent your tablet from booting, which happened to my tablet and I had to recover it with the backup and the flash tool.

Usually they release at a point the GPL source code but i think at this moment they are to busy with marketing their new products, the titanium line and the new smartphone line launched in April, I think somewhere in July-September we will see some source code

After a couple of months using Archos Gampead I am quite happy with it, but it seems as Archos is not really interested in making new firmwares. Firm is rather old and there are some aspects need some poilshment.

Any news on new firmware or have they abandoned this device? In case no more firmwares become available, at least they should release GPL source code (they should do it if they want to accomplish with GPL rules), so that we can make a better firmware for it. So, any news on that?

UPDATE: I have reflashed the rooted firmware and now the mapping tool is working properly. Could be an app that blocked it. Also regarding the nova 3 problem i was using an old apk i installed 1.05 version and it works fine. Also I used directory bind to transfer the large obb packages of Nova 3 and Modern Combat 3 to external SD card. It seems now that the gamepad is delivering as it should. I am quite happy by it.

It appears as trojan because each root tools appears like that, there is no virus there.

theyre equal to the psp one but the haptic feels cheap, there is a slight friction when you move the stick. it feels better on the psp.
Maybe I should try changing the complete stick from a psp one.

I have tried many software (SuperOneClick moded, UnlockRoot, Moborobo & TPSparkyRoot.bat, ...), but this is only successful software.
may be due to luck because I had previously tried using other software.
Currently, I freeze the unused software in Titanium Backup, install and use SetCPU 1 normally.
I have used Avast Free ShuameSetup_1.1.7_general.exe to scan, and can not detect any trojans.

haven't heard anyone having problems with the mapping tool but there is a update for it in de play store you should try that, I succesfully mapped various game with no problems.

about the N.O.V.A 3 question I think they made a backup of the game from a device that is supported by N.O.V.A and then restored it on the gamepad (tools like Romtoolbox or Titanium will do that) I did it with romtoolbox for GTA3 and that worked great.

I have tried both and performance is simillar, this mods has the advantage of the auto swap of the internal memory and the external sd as sd card, but Sigmax-JFG has root so you can play full screen, round screen borders and apply the fix for the gamepad lad when you use a externalsd.

The perfect firmware could be this one, but with root acces. Anyone could root this one o post a link to a guide so I can do it and share it here?

Took a chance and updated my Gamepad with this firmware. It's fantastic. My Gamepad internal memory was full and I couldn't put anything onto the physical 32 gb microSD card that I had installed. After installing this firmware, I did a factory reset, and re-loaded all my games. Happy to report that games now install directly to the SD card. I have like 6GB left on the Gamepad memory, and tons on the SD card. I've been able to download and install/play Gameloft's Dark Knight, Wild Blood, Nova 3, and Modern Combat 4 with TONS of room to spare on my 32GB microSD card.

I succesfully flashed 3x again CWM recovery.img - then I realized that I should use a different recovery.img.

Apologies for my stupidity here

All works well now - I am back to stock recovery.

I'm not very familiar with this flashing method.

The regular way is to use RKAndroidTool.

You can download it from here if you don't have it.

You'd need to load the default "parameter" file for your firmware, tick the box for the recovery image and flash it.

hummmm ... did not work as expected.

Here is what I did:

1. Downloaded your suggested recovery image

2. copied recovery.img and flash_image to folder /dev/ on my tablet

3. following the instructions on http://androtab.info/clockworkmod/rockchip/install/ I did

chmod 755 /dev/flash_image
/dev/flash_image recovery /dev/recovery.img

It ends, telling me a successfull write process.

When I now boot into recovery mode, I still get the CWM screens.

?! You see me confused ... any idea?

you might try wakelockdetector too say what process prevents the device to go into deepsleep.
There are also a few build.prop tweaks to improve the battery saving for better deep sleep.
Of course root is required for this.

I had exactly the same problem this morning, as mentioned by someone else in an earlier post get the CWM from here

Download the Archos gamepad one. Use the recovery.img in that zip file. Worked for me. Now running the JFG ROM.

Not through the Gamepad. When I'm using emulators on the Gamepad I end up having to map the keys to get around this but that only works for emulators that allow input mapping.

The first issue has been fixed, but the second still remains?

Is there any possible way to make the D-Pad solely control the D-Pad motions? By that, I mean, can I stop the analog from being able to navigate in menus?

I'm an Onlive gamer but I've only played the games that are already designed for touched controls and used the Archos mapping tool, works great. I was thinking of using GameKeyboard for the other games but I've not got around to doing it. Hopefully the developer can fix the app for better mapping.

I've been trying to get my Archos Gamepad working with GameKeyboard, and app that allows you to map the Archos Gamepad buttons to a virtual Gamepad.

Anyway, I've reached a problem where, within GameKeyboard, the analogue sticks veer to the top-left after being moved (within the software, the actual sticks go back to the middle as expected). I've contacted the software developer for a fix, but I was wondering if anyone else has been able to use the Archos Gamepad buttons as a virtual gamepad for games that support it, rather than it emulating touch controls? Software such as 'Onlive', where some games demand a gamepad to be used.

The device is rooted/

*Also, is there any way to stop the left analog stick from serving as a D--Pad? That screws up the emulation.

I believe the problem with SD card unmounting and remounting all the time is solved by this ROM ... I don't experience it anymore ... If you still have it after installing this ROM, it may come from another app you installed.

I've used the one that was on the orginal Archos battery just like Hailraizer's tutorial, desolder it from the archos battery and replace the one on the new battery with the archos one.

I'm trying it via laptop. Unfortunatelly, in my PC is older driver(for RK2808) and i'm not able to find him to uninstall.

EDIT: Ok, i tried it via another PC(USB from back) and same result.

EDIT2: Moreover, after flash Archos_recovery.img tablet works, so, problem is in cwm_recovery(or in tablet - new rev., etc.).

EDIT3: EUREKA! I tried cwm.img from this post:

It can not be, because on other people is working
Try to use the usb ports from the back of the pc unit in any flashing.
Use quality usb cables (htc,samsung,sony)

I think that the problem is in CWM, not in flashing/flasher.
