Please flash with Rockchip Batch Tool 1.6, use Restore button.

Please report any problem with this firmware, I can't verify this custom firmware works as I don't have a MK802IV device to test the custom firmware.

I'm new to the Android Mini-PC scene, but not new to rooting and flashing Android phones and tablets. I just got the MK802IV today - I haven't even turned it on. I'd prefer to just root and mod it from the get-go.

I've downloaded this rooted firmware from the first post. I'm looking for a tutorial on how install it. I'm assuming a custom recovery and boot image should be flashed first? Please advise - thanks!

First download and check our Rockchip Batch Tool 1.6 guide.

It's quite simple with the new RK3188 based devices, there's usually a hardware button that will help you to enable flashing mode on the device.

Then, you need to do is push that button, keep it pressed and plug in the micro USB from the computer to the MiniPC. It should ask for drivers, just follow our guide for the driver installation.

Once the drivers are installed, you should see a green square in Rockchip Batch tool, just select the update.img file you have extracted from the archive in post #1, push Restore button and wait a few minutes.

I am working on a more detailed tutorial to help flashing MiniPCs, but you can also have a look here:

http://www.rikomagic.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=4611

Cheers.

Ok, after some hours of trying to figure out how to get the MK802IV into flashmode (there's no button on the device), I've finally had some moderate success.

I grabbed the newer Batch Tool v1.7 from http://www.rikomagic.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=4611 to do this.

In short, I connected the MicroUSB (OTG) on the MK802IV to my Win7 laptop, and the MK802IV's HDMI output to the TV. I booted into the AndroidOS and tweaked a few settings:

* turned on USB Debugging

* Under USB Setting, checked "Connect to PC"

Then Device Manager on the Win7 laptop started installing device drivers, though not the one I actually needed to flash the custom firmware. I ran the Batch Tool and that showed the MK802IV as connected and orange. I then pressed "Switch" within the Batch Tool. Then the Batch Tool showed the MK802IV connected and green; this is the elusive flashmode as the screen goes black. I was then able to point the Batch Tool to the rooted firmware from you orginal post above. Success flashing. And success updating to the latest Play Store.

Hope that helps anyone attempting this as I did.

I still need to experiment a whole lot more with configuring it, but I did notice that Netflix playback is terribly scrambled. Something is wrong there. Any ideas?

Next, I need to figure out how to get the webcam connected for Skype (because really, that's why I got this thing!). It's a Logitech 720p Webcam C510 that I just bought because supposedly it works with the Rikomagic Android Mini-PC. We'll see. If you have any helpful advice with that, I'm all ears. :-)

Thanks!

Thanks for your comments, that's pretty helpful.

Stable Netflix support for RK3188 based MiniPCs running Android 4.2.2 is still in the works I believe, so the situation should improve in coming firmwares, we'll post updates when he read about them.

Camera support is also something that wasn't too good in the early firmwares and that may have been fixed, models like Logitech C510 are part of the well support models, there is no driver needed, just have it plugged at boot, system and Skype should see it.

Cheers.

Ok, thanks.

I have successfully got a Microsoft Lifecam HD-5000 webcam functioning well with Skype and Google Hangouts on the MK802IV. I added some extra power (5v, 3.5A) to my USB/Ethernet hub for good measure, so that the webcam would have plenty of current at all times. That Logitech C510 webcam would not work no matter what I tried, so I had to dump it. Oddly enough, I can confirm that the Logitech C310 webcam worked with Skype, but no luck with Hangouts. Also, the Rock Soul 720P webcam worked with Skype (not with Hangouts), but the manual-only focusing was a pain, and the LED spotlight stayed annoyingly powered-on.

Regarding Netflix...I'll be awaiting stable support in a future (rooted) firmware update. ;-)

Speaking of firmware updates, is there a way to flash over an existing ROM without wiping the data, assuming that a given update is not a radically different ROM? I've spent a good amount of time installing and configuring my Android experience and would prefer to preserve these settings/apps as much as possible.

Which leads me to ask...Is there a way to install a custom recovery such as TWRP or CWM? I'd like to be able create backups of my system and restore as necessary/desired. I've tried a method for installing CWM that was meant for an MK802III, but it failed. I have yet to find CWM specifically for MK802IV.

I've also heard a bit about running various Linux flavors off an image on a MicroSD card. Can you recommend any MK802IV Linux images to boot from a MicroSD card, along with any advice on how to do this? Is there a boot menu (or perhaps an app within the Android OS) that can be installed to make OS selection easier to achieve?

I do tremendously appreciate any help. Smile

RK3188 based MiniPC are starting to get better Netflix support, it should soon be the turn of the MK 802IV.

I believe there are CWM recoveries compatible with RK3188 MiniPCs, I am not sure about a specific one to the MK802 IV and had not time yet to check/work on that.

As for Linux, there is PicUntu package for RK3066 PC, it is expected on RK3188 devices.

See details on our PicUntu blog articles.

Just to let you know that overclocking works at 1.8 GHz and even further at 1.92 GHz on the UG007b, should be fine on the MK802IV as well Wink

Thanks! I'll try flashing this. Do I have to wipe or will it wipe? Or can I just flash it over my current installation?

The overclocked firmware is not release yet but will be soon.

As usual to be flashed with Rockchip Batch Tool with restore button, everything will be erased.

Oh, I see. And it's built from the previous test firmware. In that case, I'll wait for the updated firmware that fixes Netflix. Wink

Well a button in Rikomagic IV is really annoying :) im pressing it with knife edge.

1 Run Rockchip Batch tool, on PC and connect microusb wire

2 Disconnect everything (even power cord and hdmi / usb from Rico)

3 Press recovery button (it's in little hole/row)

4 connect a micro usb wire to OTG rico and still hold button

5 when PC recognise new hardware release button

After driver installation procedure a Batch tool should see your Riko with permission to update

I waste few hours because connecting both: power and otg usb wires so Riko cant enter in recovery mode. HDMI wire was just too short so i try without him and it works ;) so im not sure about nessesary removing HDMI but for mi works without.

Rikomagic reboot restart are sometimes verbose sometimes with nagscreen (moving dot with rikomagic) so be patient. Sometimes it took about 1 minute before Riko stand up after restart.

Sorry for my english, i hope someone will understand what i mean ;)

EDIT:

Aftera few hours of testing i was back to original MK802IV_20130620_V1

I was noticed a huge slowdowns and semifreezes, i just downloaded few apps and rico just freeze

A only root add who i need was restart, but even with rooted fw a restard doesnt work properly.

Sometimes restart took 1 minute sometimes rico dont wake up so i must disconnect him from power.

Its really annoying because rico dont have software on of button. Additionally when rico stay too long turned on a sound codec has troubles and chokes. refreshing restarting process doesnt work so i think a reboot should help. but reboot are available only with root (its really stupid) and additionaly in rico reboot even with root just sometimes works sometimes not.

Hello and happy 2014!

I've been wrapped up and away from the forum for awhile. I'm still running that original rooted RK802IV Jellybean (v4.2.2) ROM on my older model. It has been so buggy for ages, I just can't stand it anymore.

I want to flash a new ROM, but...I've been out of the loop and don't really know what's available now. Can someone recommend to me the latest and greatest ROM for my device? Is there a Jellybean v4.3 or KitKat v4.4 ROM out?

I saw this:
http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?9365-NEOTV-CROM-1-9-MK802IV-Old-Wifi-MK809III-UG007B-QC802-Cloudnet-Go-CR9

Thoughts?
