Thanks Oma,

I did mange to find a 1920x1080 theme based on stock, not sure if all options are there i.e. if its optimised for an old version of twrp.

Here it is https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/12260218/ui.zip

Thanks. I can take a look into on the weekend.

Thank you gffmac & bluesmanuk for feedback! Let me explain/comment a little bit that we come into a discussion.

What is a valid reason to restore a backup? When the build is crashed or you try a new/other firmware. In both cases you have to wipe the NAND. So, internal sdcard (partition on the NAND) is lost. That's why we think working on/with internal sdcard is not very useful. On the other hand you have most likely game data (obb and user) on the internal sdcard, which will also get lost. Disabling the internal sdcard in the TWRP code will give the benefit to also backup/restore the internal sdcard.

So, in other words our backup/restore strategie is: all partitions on the NAND >>> exclusively to external sdcard.

Mounting of an usb storage is untested, maybe we will enable this in the next build.

Rebooting options depends on the power management chip and it's programming. In some cases proper function of the chip is not independend from the kernel because the kernel flashes every times code in the chip. The majority of the tabs comes with an always power on strategie, which means only Power Button and USB-port to communicate with the loader. That's the reason why these tabs boot into Android when usb cable will plugged in. Also tab will not shut down when usb cable is plugged. So, that's not an kernel issue it is a kernel feature. However, no idea of what the design intend of a stick/box is  ... when there is one.

But hey, when you restore a backup your next step is not to Power-Off, is it?

What about using the 1280x800 resolution? There are not for all resolution standard themes. Adjusting a theme is a lot of work. Attached one standard theme .. if somebody have skills and time ;-)

Thanks for the further explanation Oma.

I tried the 1280x800 resolution and found that it is the button placement that could be adjusted for the various devices.

I have extracted the image and am currently editing the xml files to see if I can adjust the button positions for optimal use with my R28.

Great work BTW :-)

It has the same situation as mini4, only Power button and usb port. So maybe you can help LuckeMe to start the tab into flash-mode.

Should be something like this:

"unplug usb cable, hold Power for 12 sec until screen goes black and plug usb-cable (while still holding Power!) >>> "Found One LOADER Device"

Thanks.

Unfortunately the kernel of Hisense Vidaa Pad F5281 does not support a touch event. So this is a no go for TWRP.

However, for this case we have CWM which works with keys.  Unfortunately the tab has no volume rockers.

So we are trapped here until we may be find an other/later kernel for the tab.

The stock firmware is a very creapy one. Additionally a lot of safety mechanismn to keep developer out.

I corrected all that ;-) Build is here: http://www.arctablet.com/blog/forum/rk3288-entwicklung-und-customroms-development-and-croms/rom-hisense-vidaa-pad-f5281-4-4-4-custom-root-firmware-20150114/

Hi Oma,

The resolution seems to be fine now but what I have noticed is some firmwares have unified storage and some have an additional internal_sd partition. When using a rom with unified storage I cant restore a backup from a rom which had the internal_sd partition as it fails to format/write the data for that partition. Hope that makes sense.

Maybe I need to install rom from AndroidTool first to set the partitions then restore my backup?

Ok, fine. I will add the 1080p build for sticks/boxes to post #1.

Yes, that make sense. In case of an unified build you have one partition and in case of a build with /data and /userdata (internal sdcard) you have 2 partitions.
