Please check this topic for latest TWRP 2.8.4.0 |
 Gents,
this a Flash-Tool by CrewRKTablets which provides:
a) generic TWRP's 2.8.3.0 for landscape and portrait orientation

So, it can be used on any rk32board and to root any rk32board
- generic, that means no kernel and resouce included in the image
- full touch and usb-mouse support (not supported by some kernel)
- volume rockers support (only CWM)
- backup and restore of all partitions (boot, kernel, resource, recovery, system, data)
- backup and restore of internal sdcard (only TWRP)
- advancend restore (i.e. restore data)
- advanced backup (only TWRP)
- install zip from external sdcard (i.e root-script, gapps, fixes)
- wipe (factory reset) and advanced wipe
- some more functions, which we do not need (so, untested)
Flash instructions are included in the download pack.

FAQ
Q: why can TWRP not mount internal sdcard?
A: working on/with internal sdcard (partition on the NAND) does not make senes; it is disabled in the code for the advantage to backup/restore the internal sdcard. So, one must not loose all the obb and data files of games like Asphalt etc.. Btw. Google standard is an unified internal storage, so no internal sdcard any longer
Q: why can I not shut-off the tab from TWRP?
A: design intend of these tabs is to only shut-off when all cable are unplugged.

Fine. I guess it is more or less regardless which resolution do you run?
Edit: on after hard power-off is driven by the kernel. We see that also on some tabs.

Installed fine on my Tronsmart Orion R28 Meta and internal_sd does not mount, which I can see is intended, although I am not convinced by the reasoning.
Â
USB Storage does not mount from the main mount menu and when I select the Mount USB Storage button it take me to a screen where there is only the unmount button available, so unable to go back to the previous screen without having to unmount it and therefore unable to backup to usb storage.
When selecting Power Off from the Reboot menu it just reboots rather than powering off, which again I can see is intended but if it can be done from within Android, I do wonder whether it can still be possible via TWRP.
If it cannot be done then removing the option would be best.
Â
Backup of all 8 partitions did seem to work well.
Hi. Â Sorry if I sound like a noob. Â But I am, with rockchips.Â
Â
I have a VIDAA 8" PAD tablet from china. Â I can't access recovery, and I don't have any volume keys. Â reboot apps only bring me to the screen with the droid on his back with the red triangle. I can't get past this screen. Â ADB and terminal emulator won't work either. (is it possible not to have a recovery?? )Â
I'd like to put TWRP touch on the tablet.
Â
first question: will this work for me?
Â
RK3288
android 4.4.4
2047 x 1536
2gb/16gb
Â
second question: Â this is flashed with the rockchip tool?Â
Â
thank you in advance.Â

Thank you gffmac & bluesmanuk for feedback! Let me explain/comment a little bit that we come into a discussion.
What is a valid reason to restore a backup? When the build is crashed or you try a new/other firmware. In both cases you have to wipe the NAND. So, internal sdcard (partition on the NAND) is lost. That's why we think working on/with internal sdcard is not very useful. On the other hand you have most likely game data (obb and user) on the internal sdcard, which will also get lost. Disabling the internal sdcard in the TWRP code will give the benefit to also backup/restore the internal sdcard.
So, in other words our backup/restore strategie is: all partitions on the NAND >>> exclusively to external sdcard.

Â
Mounting of an usb storage is untested, maybe we will enable this in the next build.
Rebooting options depends on the power management chip and it's programming. In some cases proper function of the chip is not independend from the kernel because the kernel flashes every times code in the chip. The majority of the tabs comes with an always power on strategie, which means only Power Button and USB-port to communicate with the loader. That's the reason why these tabs boot into Android when usb cable will plugged in. Also tab will not shut down when usb cable is plugged. So, that's not an kernel issue it is a kernel feature. However, no idea of what the design intend of a stick/box is ... when there is one.
But hey, when you restore a backup your next step is not to Power-Off, is it?
What about using the 1280x800 resolution? There are not for all resolution standard themes. Adjusting a theme is a lot of work. Attached one standard theme .. if somebody have skills and time

so could I do that? Â use like, the 1900 x 1200? Â Maybe it would just be small on my screen??? Â but still work? Â Or it just not that easy to solve for me?

Thanks Oma,
Â
I did mange to find a 1920x1080 theme based on stock, not sure if all options are there i.e. if its optimised for an old version of twrp.
Here it is https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/12260218/ui.zip

What you see (droid on his back) is the stock recovery. It has only the function to format the user space on the NAND. That's all.
Both answers to your questions are yes. If your kernel logo is in portrait then use 1200*1920 otherwise 1920*1200.
If you like to retain the stock firmware first contact me via PM.
