Warning - the instructions are ambiguous - be extra careful

The instructions in the text files are rubbish, as usual, no idea who came up with that comment and explanation, yet it seemed to have worked to flash the device after all. Almost got it bricked, though because of the ambiguous installation instructions.

Only load this ROM from the bootloader (this goes with all ROMs)

Whoever would like to try this, do not try to flash your device while it is powerd on. Try to go to TWRP using Power+Lower Volume key (simultaneously while off) and then load the bootloader. If you do not have TWRP installed, it will boot the Android Recovery from the Stock rom. Simply select the Bootloader from the menu (up/down volume to select, power button to activate menu). Once in the bootloader mode, you then can use the AndoidTool flash tool to see your device as loader device and to flash it.

Boot animation - not so pleasing to the eye

The OMA animated boot sequence is annoying, something like out of twilight zone. Could this be changed, please?

Additional findings:

Stagefright bug is not fixed. this ROM is still vulnerable! Just download the lastest tool from Zimperion and you will see.

Netflix playback directly on the device does not work with this ROM! You may use your Chromecast to play Netflix on your TV but you cannot use this device to play Netflix movies directly onto the device itself. It simply does not work, this is because of Digital Rights, the original ROM seems to have no license for this stuff and all the copy ROMs (CrewRKTablets and OMA) suffer from this problem now.

The update to the new version with the 1.8 GHz CPU support worked. There are still a few issues to report.

1. Netflix playback directly on the device still does not work.

2. Geekbench performance is only 668 for Single-Core CPU and only 1886 for Mulit-Core CPU. I ran the test multiple times.

3. 4 Stagefright vulnerabilities are still not fixed with this ROM.

4. After the firmware has been updated, the tablet does not start at first boot (same is true after a factory reset). The OMA logo is shown indefintively. Power the system off and on and it will start.

5. After the firmware update, at first boot after entering the WiFi password, the Google system checking does not work. Reboot the system and the Google system check will work.

I also had an issue with Antutu 3D not working for the first time in Antutut 6.0 but I was able to fix this by uninstalling the 3D component and then re-installing it from Google Play Store when Antutu 6 asked to do so.

Conclusion, this ROM is not as fast as the Stock 2.0.6 from FNF (that did work with Antutu 6.0 3D and showed over 55000 Antutu scores). Something is not working as expected and I may need to go back to the original ROM.

Any ROM based on pure FNF stock is going to have the same problems. No one is dev'ing anything here, we're just modifying them. So if the stock has the bug, any derived ROM will mostly likely have the bug.

The only ROM that would have a chance of fixing that would be one of OMA's CM or AOSP builds, which can pull fresh Android base code. The other choice would be pulling the system.img from the Firefly builds, since they are pretty close to the same HW, you'd just have to still use the iFive Air kernel and resource bits.

The 1.8 GHz and unified storage bits are coming from the unofficial Rice firmware based on 2.0.6, so there are bound to be some issues there.

Personally owning two different rk3288 devices (Pipo M9S and Beelink R89), as well having tested quite a few ROMs and seen others test results, I feel pretty confident in saying that 55000 is a very unrealistic Antutu score for the chip!

You will be lucky to break 40000.  This sounds like a clear case of a manufacturer falsifying a score (a common practice, actually).

You might find a stagefright fix (a patch?) on freaktab or firefly forum.  Probably not, if it is a kernel issue.

Cheers!

Hi OMA!

I installed 5.1.1 build Oma Air LP v1.1, all perfect.
But I have trouble installing TWRP.
Using AndroidTool, I click Switch: see picture 1
Then untick everything other than Parameter, tick TWRP, click Run and: see picture 2

What can I do?
thanks!
