I had a few custom roms on this, running some older 4.2.2 rom from here. I have a backup of that and another 4.4.2 rom I flashed a bit ago from http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/?p=3319 which went well. It was running smoothly and should have stuck with that...

I decided to press my luck and try to flash CM 12.1/5.1.1 from http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/?p=5617. That did not go well, it just reboots to a blue crew rktablets over and over. Also displays the blue logo when plugged in and seems to turn itself on. Little to no power control plugged in. I cannot seem to get it into recover or download mode. Might have not done the kernel update or something that has taken out recovery and the boot sequence.

Though not sure on the buttons, power and down, or power and up, or if I need to involve the back button. It has 3 buttons, the volume is 1, but technically 2, so 4. I can't seem to find the exact recovery and download sequence. Which could be most of my problem. If I can get it back into recovery or download mode I can proceed from there. I hope I do not need to open it up. At no time is it accessible via adb, which does not give me much hope.

Anyone know the exact recovery and download mode procedures for the Tablet Express Dragon Touch r97 rk3188? They should be different, though usually similar.

Thanks in advance!

Using rockchips' upgrade_tool, I am able to do some communication with the tablet. I think I am going into download mode or some mode by pressing and holding volume up, and then power. The devices does not turn on but I see it via upgrade_tool

$ upgrade_tool
List of rockusb connected
DevNo=1 Vid=0x2207,Pid=0x310b,LocationID=62c    Loader
Found 1 rockusb,Select input DevNo,Rescan press <R>,Quit press <Q>:

Thus far all commands are failing due the tablet being all messed up. But at least gives me some hope. I may have to use Windows to recovery another Linux based Android device...

I think I need to replace the loader, and then I may be able to do more things like flashing images.

Finally got my tablet back, the rockchips really are a rock. I ended up using rockchip-pack-tools, to create an update.img from this rom http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/?p=3319 . I downloaded and unpacked both. I copied the package-file, parameters, RK3188Loader(L)_V1.24.bin,
and Images folder from the rom into rockchip-pack-tools. I edited the mkupdate.sh script there for the proper loader version. I then used upgrade_tool to flash the image I made, upgrade_tool uf update.img. Once it was correctly flashed it rebooted into CWM and I can restore backups from there and have 🙂

No worries, thank you for your efforts. I got CM12.1/5.1.1 onto my Tablet Express Dragon Touch Elite r97. I had a few problems and still a few things in the works. Is there an irc channel for crew rktablets? Otherwise I can comment on one of the posts on the firmware rom.

Not sure as to my involvement level, but likely will be hacking on my tablet more so than I did in the past. May look to see if I can get 6.x or 7.x onto the rk3188 based system. I am getting a bit familiar with the pieces. Quite familiar with Linux, ran Gentoo for over a decade. Just not as familiar with how Android runs on top of it, the various images, ways it boots, parameters etc.

Few things I would like to fix in my current rom, audit, no sim card, and if possible get blue tooth working, Thinking a driver issue as I had lots of crashes, GUI reboots not system, and others till I got the right wifi driver. Ended up using the one from the N90, as I ran a rom for that before, the 4.2.2 kasty rom. I tried a few kernels, most would boot, the dragon touch, using the wayteq one that was in the 4.4.2 rom. Some others worked as well. Thinking bluetooth may be a driver issue as well, not sure.

Anyway I may look to contribute and/or join the crew rktablets. I packaged some of the rockchip tools for gentoo and have a good env for building update.img and flashing those. Plus I know how to fully recover the tablet now. I got so low as maskrom mode when I had a bad loader flashed. Now that I know how to fully recover, not afraid to experiment.

At some point will check out Android itself from git and see about building it from source. I do allot of from source building on Gentoo. Just last time it took to long to download the entire git repo. Next time I will do it without history, so it should be smaller and download faster. Rather than some 30+GB for it all...

Sure, but it happens to be the one android device I do not need really and will be playing with for app development purposes. It is performing well for what I need it for. At times rivals my rooted S7, with much better specs. Not to mention I have been wanting and needing to get more familiar with the OS itself. Most everyone else has likely moved on but I see no reason to toss the tablet. Getting newer versions of Android on it might be a good learning experience and may benefit others if I can pull it off. Its been a long time coming. Since I can't really hurt/brick this tablet, and if I do it does not matter much. Its a great device to play with.

If you have anything left over from rk31 days you can pass on that would be great. I can send you my email in PM and/or you can send over any links to things to download, sdk, dev env, etc. Though I suspect most is just the Android changes as the kernel and drivers are what they are, no updates, new versions etc. Though may experiment with making my own kernel. I am not using any cellular, so just wifi, bluetooth and system chipsets. I am very familiar with building kernels and the like.
