Rikomagic has recently updated the firmware for their MK802III Mini PC. According the the manufacturer revision history, this last release (2012/11/29) brings better compatibility with Hubs, and USB LAN adapters, it also adds new features to the MK802III, such as WiFI hotspot and a new Remote Control. While the stock firmware update comes rooted, we have brought some improvements such as latest SuperSU free version (0.99) to control the root access and extended storage space for applications with 2 Gb instead of the 500 Mb on the stock firmware.

Remote Control feature

This firmware is one of the first to offer a Remote Control feature for Rockchip RK3066 based devices. This function allows to control the MK802III Mini PC remotely from an Android device such as a Phone or a Tablet. This is done thru an Android application to run on the controlling device. There is nothing to configure on the controlled device (MiniPC).

The Remote Control application can be downloaded here: [[** please register to see this link **]] (2.2 MB)
(MK802 III Remote application version 1.1.0)

Same here. It detects the image (update available) but then complains about an invalid package. Can't upgrade. Does anyone have some info on how to solve this ?

Thanks in advance

Is this firmware suitable for both the 4gb and 8gb version of the MK802III?

I managed to flash the image on a 4gb device :)

I pretty much followed the instructions from this page:
[[** please register to see this link **]]

I used RKAndroidTool.exe to switch the device to flash mode since there’s no hardware button for it (you’d have to open the device and short two pins somewhere). After which I used RKBatchTool.exe to flash the image using the “Restore” option (which does an erase before flashing the new image). This does delete all files stored on the internal flash disk, so make sure you make a backup first.

You shouldn't need RKandroidtool as the custom firmware is made of a single image (update.img) and should be flash using RKBatchtool.

RKBatchtool also let you switch the device to flash mode, using "Switch" button.

In any case, both RKBatchtool and RKandroidtool are available here:

Using this firmware, I can't enable wifi. And the MK802III is very unstable.
