I have had my U8 (4.2.2) for about 3 weeks and a few days ago I noticed that the wifi doesn't stay on when the tablet is asleep.  Settings/Wifi/Advanced/Keep wifi on during sleep/ is set to "Always" but when I wake the tablet up, I can see the wifi is not connected (icon is black) and within about 3 seconds I can watch it connect (icon turns grey then blue).  As soon as it turns blue emails waiting on the server are downloaded and any app from Play Store is downloaded.  I have tested this about 50 times and I am sure that wifi does not stay on when the tablet sleeps.

In addition, if I set an alarm app to ring at a certain time, it does not ring if the tablet is asleep.  If I wake the tablet up the alarm rings immediately.  Not a very good alarm if you have to wake up in the morning and turn the tablet on to hear the alarm!

Music plays ok when the tablet sleeps.

I took this up with the seller in China and they very kindly offered to fix or replace the tablet if I sent it to them.  Postage costs Canada - China make this not worthwhile.  International Xpresspost is $142!!!  There are cheaper methods but can take up to 3 months.

I was wondering if I rooted the tablet with this firmware if anyone thinks it might cure my problems.  Does rooting just modify the existing firmware (thus probably won't fix my problem) or does it completely replace the existing?  Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated before I try to figure out how to do this root.  Thanks.
