Here is an Android 4.1 JB rooted firmware for the PIPO S1 (DS733) tablet based on latest official update from Pipo (pipo_S1_update_chinese_20130320.zip)
Kernel: Linux version 3.0.8+ (root@wzq-G41M-ES2L) (gcc version 4.4.3 (GCC) ) #226 SMP PREEMPT Tue Mar 19 11:29:06 CST 2013
Android 4.1 JB: PIPO/DS733/DS733:4.1.1/JRO03H/20121010.100452:eng/release-keys
Based on the build signatures it seems this firmware update relates only to the kernel.
Custom firmware features:
- root with latest SuperSU version 1.25 (free version)
- removed most Chinese and unnecessary applications
- increased space for application (/data partition) to 2 GB
- Google Play Store fixes so more application are visible/compatible
(this file has been removed, please use 2013/03/25 update instead)
Please report any problem with this firmware, I can't verify this custom firmware works as I don't have a PIPO S1 tablet to test the custom firmware.
The following users say thank you to admin for this useful post:jox, copywriting4u, chuck007
* first post*
i installed this on my daughters pipo s1
after installing i had a widget crashing every few seconds (forgot the name)
after removing the widget the tablet crashed a total of 2 or 3 times (the widget was installed by default)
now everything runs good speed is very very good more smooth then my galaxy tab 10.1
funny thing is that while she plays games on the tablet it looks like the speed of the game is to high (lep world 1 and 2)
just checked again the speed is absolutely higher realy strange
have to check some other things but looks and feels very good
That crashing widget may have been forgotten in the Chinese/unnecessary apk cleanup.
I am interested in knowing the widget name so I can maybe fix the problem in future custom firmware.
Alright that should be it, thanks. I'll remove that one as well for next custom firmware build.
I have installed the firmware yesterday. Here are my notes on it:
+ The tablet is much faster than the last official English firmware version.
- There is much noise in the headphones in comparison to the last FW version
- I have strange behaviour regarding power supply. I plugged it yesterday and today in the morning the red LED was off, but the tablet was not loaded at all. I wonder if this is a problem of firmware, or I need to do battery calibration or my power supply got broken. Will try to check it today.
PS: the shelvesgridwidget is really annoying
I'll post a new custom firmware update later this week with the extra widgets cleanup.
Thanks for the ROM, here is my input so far
The display is the sharpest i have seen with the ROM and i have tried several including TNT ROMs.
There is some sound cracking when the display turns off. Sound is louder and a big improvement over any other ROM and is better when playing videos, games etc, you can actually hear what is being said now on movies.
The battery life is not as good as on TNT 5. It seems to drop even when the display is off. I lost 10% in two hours with display off and no wi-fi connection during that time. If battery life could be improved, such as on TNT 5, this would be the perfect ROM.
I had to change the name of the device from pipo to SGH-i777get Adventures of Tintin to work.
As in another post on here the shelves widget crashes as soon as the ROM loads.
Overall great ROM and cant wait to try the next version.
Ultimate version of english fw : http://pipo.cn/En/index.php?m=About&a=gujian_show&id=69
Not rooted ! Maybe is useful for improvements ...
Ex-owner of MID (8650), LY-F1, Zenithink ZT282 C91 Upgrade ; Eken-T05A ; Teclast P76Ti - now Pipo Smart S1, for my son ! There is no perfect tablet !
I have published an update based on the firmware posted by fratello post #13.
