Here is an Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean rooted firmware for the PiPO M9 PRO (aka Max-M9pro) for both WiFI and 3G models. This custom firmware is based on latest update version 1.07 dated 2014/04/14. This update offers the new Quick Boot feature released on some other PiPO tablets.

(M9pro_1.0.7-20140414-update.img / M9pro_OTA_3G&wifi_Chinese&English_software_20140414)

Build information:

Kernel: Linux version 3.0.36+ (root@alex-System-Product-Name) (gcc version 4.6.x-google 20120106 (prerelease) (GCC) ) #427 SMP PREEMPT Tue Apr 1 17:18:03 CST 2014

Android 4.2.2 JB: rk30sdk/rk30sdk/rk30sdk:4.2.2/JDQ39/eng.root.20140414.162347:eng/opinions-on-teclast-p90hdst-keys

ro.rksdk.version=RK31_ANDROID4.2.2-SDK-v1.04.00

RK3188Loader(L)_V1.24.bin

Custom firmware features:

  • root with latest SuperSU version 1.94 (free version)
  • removed most Chinese and unnecessary applications
  • Google Play Store fixes so more application are visible/compatible
  • updated busybox v1.21.0.git (2012-11-29)
  • Unix like init.d boot scripts support, more details on init.d scripts here
  • changed permissions on external sdcard to allow write access
  • increased space for applications (/data partition) to 4 GB
  • disabled OTA updates (may cause problems, see Notes below)
  • kernel modules (cifs, tun, lan, serial, xpad) compiled by Oma & Crew RKTablets, thank guys!
  • optional ClockworkMod (CWM) Recovery easy install package

Notes:

- any update received thru OTA may interfere with our custom firmware, we recommend to refuse any update pushed OTA.

- to hide the status bar, press the last button on the right from the status bar

From the hidden status bar to show it again: slide from bottom of the screen to the top.

Pipo_M9_pro_firmware_20131120_hide_bar2.png

- we have posted a short video about the Quick Boot feature

Download: kasty-pipo-m9_pro-422-20140414-rooted4.zip

Flash with Rockchip Batch Tool version 1.7, use Restore button.

Please note that I haven't yet tested this custom firmware on my PiPO M9 pro tablet, feedback is welcome.

Warning: if you are currently running an Android 4.4 KitKat firmware and wish to flash to this Android 4.2 Jelly firmware, you may face some troubles downgrading. If you are not sure how to handle that, we recommend that you wait until this procedure gets properly documented.

HI

It seems to me that this should be the ROM to go for since it originates from Pipo.

Does anyone know how this compares to the other rooted ROMs?

Cheers

I have 4.4 in my Kitkat Pipo M9 Pro, I will update this, since my GPS does not work.

What better way to update it? They say they can be direct by using the Tablet Software or USB cable.

My last update I did was by USB.

As mentioned in post #1, the proper way to update the firmware is to use Rockchip Batch Tool and a connection to the tablet thru USB.

txontxas,

I am not sure on what you want to do, but you may check here if you want to flash back from an Android 4.4 KitKat firmware an older version:

Sorry for my english.

But this firmware is better than the kitkat I'm using 4.4?

What would be the difference? is because it is the official?

I like this kikat 4.4 but it does not work the GPS.

First we need to know which firmware you have, before we can say which one would be better...

There are many Kitkat Roms around...

Please post the rom date, or a screenshot...

And the differences are: this one is Jellybean, the other version is the newer android kitkat

and a little Tipp:

Please have a look at the preview first, when you quote and reply...

Did you say PiPo M9 or M9Pro? If you are on M9 and flashing this firmware for M9Pro that is bound to happen. So which model do you physically have ? Any way the latest KASTY KitKat ROMwith build no#404dated Wed Mar 19 is the best version of KitKat the GPS is working but no sudden Reboots if you update certain files.

Remember to use the correct Firmware M9 cannot be flashed using M9pro firmware and vice versa.

We have moved on on beyond "have anybody got this to work yet" It is working and with KitKat ROM the #404 the 3rd version the GPS is working great with the exception of PiPo hardware limitation BUT not the firmware problem.
