Here is an Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean rooted firmware for the PIPO M9 tablet (aka Max-M9, not the M9pro version) that should work on both the 3G and WiFI tablet models. It is based on latest PiPO update 1.0.9 dated 2013/11/30.

(update#85_M9_3188_PIPO_1.0.9_NOMMS_20131130.img)

Build information:

Kernel: Linux version 3.0.36+ (root@lzj-desktop) (gcc version 4.6.x-google 20120106 (prerelease) (GCC) ) #85 SMP PREEMPT Sat Nov 30 09:29:40 CST 2013

Android 4.2.2 JB: rk30sdk/rk30sdk/rk30sdk:4.2.2/JDQ39/eng.root.20131130.092954:eng/opinions-on-teclast-p90hdst-keys

ro.rksdk.version=RK31_ANDROID4.2.2-SDK-v1.04.00

Notes:

- Certificate Center and original PiPO launchers have been kept in the firmware

- Certificate Center will ask for product key, which is not needed, just hit later and connect to Internet and it will be activated

- any update received thru OTA may interfere with our custom firmware, we recommend not to apply any OTA update

Custom firmware features:

  • root with latest SuperSU version 1.80 (free version)
  • removed most Chinese and unnecessary applications
  • Google Play Store fixes so more application are visible/compatible
  • updated busybox v1.21.0.git (2012-11-29)
  • Unix like init.d boot scripts support, more details on init.d scripts here
  • changed permissions on external sdcard to allow write access
  • increased space for applications (/data partition) to 4 GB
  • disabled OTA updates (may cause problems, see Notes above)
  • kernel modules (cifs, tun, lan, serial, xpad) compiled by Oma & Crew RKTablets, thank guys!
  • NEW!  optional ClockworkMod (CWM) Recovery easy install package

Download: kasty-pipo-m9-422-109_20131130-rooted4.zip

Flash with Rockchip Batch Tool version 1.7, use Restore button.

Please report any problem with this firmware, I can't verify this custom firmware works as I don't have a PIPO M9 tablet to test the custom firmware.

thanks for the updated FW. it seems faster and i like the reboot option and the fact that we mask the taskbar. One thing is that some downloaded games are not working and they where before. maybe i a am missing some certificates ?

thank you

Just installed this after being majorly dissapointed by the cm10 build that's out there with WiFi broken :-( was perfect besides that.

Anyway, very happy with this ROM especially after trying the other ones out there, issues I've found are that upon modifying anything in read only areas fails the first time but works the second , it's nothing I can't live with tho. A very irritating problem however is that the external memory card is read only and nothing ive done has yet to resolve this issue :'(

oh, have a few questions also....

If I update in the future will I have to reinstall everything? All depends how you do your image I assume

Any plans on doing cwm flashable Zips in the future?

Any plans on carrying on or doing your own cm builds in the future? I'm hopeng yes as I'm not at the stage to do my own just yet 😉

Yes, future custom firmware builds should be available as CWM zip in addition to current update.img style package.

Cheers.

Very good rom, I am very happy with it.

Just a question, I use to hide control bar (at bottom) but I can't show it again. Any idea to do that ? Anywhere I can change seetings for that ? By restarting tablet, the bar doesn't come up anymore.

Flashing with CWM would be nice if the touch screen worked properly with it !! Not everyone has an usb keyboard.

I was wondering if the kernel from this would work if imported in to the new 4.4.2 M9 Pro rom, then flashed to the M9 Max? They both use 3.0.36+

I swipe up from the bottom with a finger in each corner to bring it back, only way it seems to work

With physical volume buttons or touch ?

Thouch isn't working well for me,it's nearly impossible to select an option with my finger and to swipe to an other option.

I'm experiencing really weird behavior. I'm not exactly sure if it is this firmware or something else, but previously I was using kasty-pipo-m9-422-106_20131025-rooted4 and didn't notice these things.

Problems arise when I connect the charger and put the device in sleep mode (press power button once). Device seems to randomly wake up (screen comes on) and the battery is charging very slowly or not at all. When I set the display to stay always on when charging the battery charged with normal speed.
