I sincerely believe that it varies from tab to tab.

I cannot render such results yet it's the same tab on the same Rom. Pity

Mr-Kev said Iv'e downloaded the gps.config now where do i put it on my tablet ? And i changed asia .pool to uk.pool is that correct ? Thanks.

NO!NO! the asia.ntp.server address ishould be changed to europe! Please change the continent ntp.servers

server 0.europe.pool.ntp.org
server 1.europe.pool.ntp.org
server 2.europe.pool.ntp.org
server 3.europe.pool.ntp.org
and when you see the my.pool.ntp.org (my locale)
change that to uk.pool.ntp.org
Please3 recheck after the editing , when you save it it doesnt change to gps.config.txt if this happens zipped
it up 7zip and edit inside the 7zip to the original extension *.cofg and then unzipped it and put it in the
system/etc folder and make sure the ownership is set to root/root.
Dont forget to use in conjunction with the download app from Playstore NTPSync it will request for root access and will
recheck/synchronise your time after every reboot or periodically.
I have attached the uk gps.conf for you.

Thank you very much cracktech, I'll do just that.

Please remember this is the KASTY ROM forum, Yeah I am currently on RILEYS ROM and the GPS is No better or worst than before, i have to do the gps.conf trick to get it going again. I am on RILEYS ROm coz I need the pad badly while we at KASTY sort the "provision error" problem.

Thanks,

I dont know where the gps.conf for my locale got to you I only uploaded the uk_gps.conf for another user maybe you downlaoded an earlier gps.conf as an example for those in the know.

so here it is the uk gps.conf. file and dont forget to use it in conjunction with NTPSync.(down load it from Playstore)

Change the continent to your contimnent Europe,Asia,NorthAmerica

& country like "uk" to your country. Yeah like I said just copy the file into system/etc folder and check for the ownership changed that to root/root. If you dont know where the system/etc/ folder is please dont try this. Familiarised yourself with Android file structure first.Since our ROM are rooted already it is as easy as copying from one  location (your external sdcard) into the sytem/etc folder.

I've been wondering if Archos tablet 10.1 has the same issues with GPS performance. It also has an aluminium back cover. Does it disturb the signal? Or it just PiPO thingarchos_101platinum_back_hidef_6.jpgImage Enlarger

slackerlx,

You may ask in the Archos Platinum forum section Wink

Usually tablets with aluminum back have lower "radio" performance with things like WiFI or GPS, but this also highly depends on the quality of the components, chipset used and antenna placement.

Cheers.

Also very bad GPS .I have used a GPS bluetooth mouse and i get fix instantly.

My conclusion is ,the problems are due to the antenna or the alu backcover or a combination of those  2.

Just got a Pipo M9 Pro (without 3G) and came looking for answers to the poor GPS performance problem.  Interesting reading in this thread.  I'm a retired GPS engineer so here are some clarifications.  First, the GPS satellite signals are very weak and are affected by atmospheric conditions, signal path obstacles, antenna orientation, and reflections off of surrounding buildings.  As pointed out, the M9 design is the basic problem.  The surrounding electronics and the aluminum shell attenuate the signal.  From what I gather, the gps_config file really just sets your home location.  This will not help with the satellite signal problems but will help the software to focus its search for satellites.  I'm assuming that there is some sort of satellite almanac data embedded in the software otherwise the position config file wouldn't help at all.  And knowing your home location won't help as much if you travel any distance.  I've only tried the built in GPS Info program so I don't know if other programs work better but there are a couple of software features that would help.  First, the software should have a way to save the last known position fix in non-volatile memory.  That would eliminate the need for a position config file and would allow the GPS to start faster even when you are not at your home location.  Second, the software should save the downloaded satellite ephemeris data in non-volatile memory.  That would also result in faster position fixes.  As for hardware fixes, the antenna would really need to be external to show very significant improvement.  For those who really want to use the tablet for navigation in their car, you might consider buying an inexpensive USB GPS mouse.  Personally, I just use a car GPS when I travel.

When i use GPS TEST after awhile i got fix (6 a 7 sats in use) indoors . The next day when i start GPS TEST it takes approx 10 minutes to get fix again. As you stated i also think that the fix is not be saved.

When i connect my gps bluetouth mouse i get instant fix

Keeping in mind that your tablet has root access, place the file into /system/etc Note: If you use ES file manager you'll need to enable Root explorer there under tools category, then pressing on Root explorer takes you into submenu where you choose to Mount R/W = select RW. Do remember to deselect the option when you finish copying your files. You don't want write root access for everyday work

When I click Root Explorer in ES File Explorer, the message " Sorry, test failed. This feature cannot run on your phone". What did I miss?
