I am new to Android and Pipo, so several questions here...

I have the M9 Pro w/3G which came with the 4.2 version of Android.

My main dissatisfaction is due to a faster battery drain than I expected. When fully charged - battery indicator shows ~3.5 Hrs. Q.; Is this normal??? Will the new firmware help?

On the Pipo website there is a whole procedure how to upgrade - using "upgrade tools" Do I need to do that with the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean rooted firmware? If not, where can I find upgrade instructions plse?

Mu USB port is not working all the time, can I download the 4.2.2 version to SD card and upgrade that way?

Many thanks, ArtEmbarassed

Hi I am new to the forum. I'm from Argentina and  I see that many people have been helped with their tablets and I need a big one. One month ago I received the Pipo M9 Pro 3g tablet and seeing that the wifi did not work well. So, today I tried to update the firmware. I downloaded tools and files from official Pipo website: "RKBatchTool v1.7", "Rockusb_v3.5 driver" and "update_M9pro_OTA_1.0.7_20131120.img".

During the upgrade process when it reaches the 51% appears a failure warning.

What can I do? Could anybody say me which is the correct process to fix this problem? I have not idea what I have to do!

Thank you in advance!

You came to this Forum didnt you? Why did you download from the PiPo factory download site. Yours is the second device I came across this week  that had EXACTLY the same problem and EXACTLY at the same moment in the process that got stuck.

This is due to the firmware is corrupted.Redownload the latest firmware from this site and reflash your device again. Please read through the "how to Recover from softbrick M9" thread it is the same process for M9Pro and M9. Your device will probabbly be not recognised by your PC at this point in time (but can still switch on/off).

Please read through the forum under help to unbrick M9.Please dont be lazy to read through the forum post to look for the solutions. this has already been answered (ALL are under the PiPo Forum threads).

first download the firmware from this site and then donate to support further development dont expect that people work for free.this include firmware/Rk batchtool not from China site.

I think you didnt read the forum guide to upgrade the firmware maybe you use the "upgrade" switch instead of the "restore" switch, you can brick your pad by using the upgrade switch.

To reset the device please use a pin to press into the hole beside the front camera. (there is a small hole next to camera lens)

No you cant upgrade through SDCard (that is a recipe for disaster although it is possible). please use the PiPo supplied USB OTG cable and not from your samsung/others USB OTG cable because PiPo requires a slightly longer metal contact than normal micro USB jack

After successful flashing of the KASTY ROM, I will tell you how to increase the battery life. just will take about 5 minutes to download the patch.

First of all, thank you very much for your quick response cracktech. I tell you that I managed install the firmware: kasty-pipo-m9_pro-422-ota_107_20131120-rooted4.zip following your description and reading a little bit the forum. But the main problem is not solved: wifi still does not work! Appears a "authenticating ..." message and never connects.
Thanks for your input, it was a great help!

P.S.: initially use the tools provided official support for PIPO because it is assumed that the manufacturer MUST attend their problems better than anyone else. Obviously this is not the case :(

Lein,

sorry that I sounded harsh. But this wifi problem describebd by you has something to do with hardware( some devices just missed the Quality Control- you know how the Chinese work). I had the same problems with previous version of factory or KASTY ROM from around October versions but now the current versions (after forum members bombard the factory) it has been solved including mine it was about 2 versions back in which the Skype issue was also resolved.

But answer me "are you Ok with modifying" Android firmware? nothing fancy just adding some files into system folders and setting "permission and ownership". if you are comfortable with that I can try to lessen your burden of "wifi not connected" but theres NO guarantee it will solve the problem.Just trying to help out.there are files that needed to be added to see whether it will help on the software side.

but if it is a hardware issue than tough luck.

Why did you flash the firmware from Nov version? Please see my signature for, it is already a Dec version.before updating to a new firmware go into the internal sdcard (not external) and delete the folders which has example ".android_secure" that has a "dot" infront of its name and the "Android" folder.this will be remnants of your previous installs and will interfere with the smooth transition to the new firmware. but if you (are brave enough) find within system/data/dalvik-cache folder delete that folder prior to flashing newer versions.

What ever you do, dont be tempted to upgrade your device to KitKat version 4.4 just yet it is not reday "for prime time" I myself did not upgrade to KitKat until the firmware is stable (that will be anotehr 2 or 3 updates)

Here are the issues....

I have downloaded the firmaware, but as already stated, the USB port on my tablet is not working. Copied the file to root and rebooted - but it does not upgrade. When I point (via file manager) to the file - I'm being asked what program to open the file with. Any suggestions?

Will the battery patch work w/the present (factore installed ver. 4.2) firmaware? If so, where do I find it plse?

Thanks, Art

First of all,
You have a problem with USB OTG port (hardware) right out of the box. The best option is to return to SELLER because you cant live with out the USB OTG port and upgrading through sdcard is NOT recommended and risky at best (although it is possible).
In order for you to TRY an upgrade thro sdcard, first you have to rename te file to "update.img" and should (best be the only file on the external sdcard). get another 4Gb sdcard (I always have 4Gb sdcard lying around somewhere from my previous H/phone purchases- free gifts)FULL Format it to FAT32.
Get the downloaded firmware zipped file , unzipped it and you have sometimes "xyz234.img" file rename that to just "update.img" the should be placed on the ROOT directory of the sdcard (external) like the picture shown.
Switch off the device put the sdacrd in and power it up.We dont recommend sdcard upgrading but if you insist on keeping the device instead of returning to seller. You can try.
As for the battery saving method it can be downloaded through the Arctablet Tool app that is installed on your device.Find for the file that says "something...DEEP SLEEP...something..something..) download it and then install.

APOLOGIES!!: SO SORRY I DIDNT ATTACHED THE PICTURE; BUT YOU OBVIOUSLY KNEW WHAT I MEANT BY "ROOT" DIRECTORY.

The pictures are for complete ExtSDCardRoot.jpgImage Enlarger NOOBs whom might ask where is the ROOt directory? Just for "future users" . I again attch even though both of you hav ealreay successfully update device thro this method. Once you are up and running I recommend you download CWMrecovery and do a dalvik cache and nand wipe and reflash the firmware again (some of us might face trouble with wifi, screen orientatin thing,no touch screen response) that is why e dont recommend sdcard upgrade. downlaod CWM and you can do dalvik and nand memory format throug CWM (likeformatting corrupted hardrive and reinstall the firmware again only then ill the problems go away)

Thank you. Wish I could - but the vendor from China dissapeared as soon as they lerned that there was a problem... Anyway, mission accomplished, copied the file vo tablet via SD card and almost all seem to work fine.

For whatever reason lost the auto-rotation feature, but no big deal - installed a small app and am in conrol again.

Looked for the "something…DEEP SLEEP…something..something" file on this site as well as Google - but no result. Are you willing to point me in the right direction?

First of all Congrats for successful upgrade of te device BUt the sdcard upgrade method is NOt recommeneded in the long term. You still have to have somebody (local computer tech) to look into it.

For the deep slleep issue and draining of battery, I found out that it is due to a poorly coded driver and can be easiliy overcome by downloading a corrected driver.

First find on your device "ArchTools" and click on the icon (wifi OK?internet connected Ok?) Then click 'download" wait for the list to load and search thro for the "CWM Recovery by Fun" download and install that, and then download the "Deep Sleep fix......." although you dont complain about deep sleep but this is driver module that is eating up the battery (I read about it somewhere that this has something to do with the module thinking it is waiting for an incoming data steam so it doent sleep always ON "radio" (wifi/gsm etc).

So both this process shouldnt take more than 10 Screenshot_2014-01-11-08-50-34.jpgImage Enlargerminutes.
