I have posted a new post on this thread regarding the issue of restoring the previous installed apps (prior to the upgrade of new ROM , which format the data partition)

There is another method to backup and restore only apps and not the full NANDROID which will take you back to the previous backup version trough CWM recovery from your desktop you have to install CWM recovery first and an app called ZIPInstaller form Playstore (paid version) free version is in my link on the thread.
