Here is an Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean rooted firmware for the PiPO M6 PRO (aka Max-M6pro) based on new update 2013/10/15 published by Pipo offering OTA (Over the Air) support.

( M6pro_OTA_gps_1.0.7_update.img / M6pro_OTA_software_20131015)

Notes:

- please uncheck "en_apk.install" in setup wizard (run at first boot) for this firmware to work, thanks udio80

- any update received thru OTA may interfere with our custom firmware, please let us know how it goes if you try such updates.

Firmware revision history from the manufacturer (thanks Philooo for the tip)

1 Support external TF card, & in exFAT format when USB drive connected

2 Added feature for camera (& lighting effect)

3 Newly added support for H265 media format

4 Upgrade new launcher interface

5 After this OTA upgrade, future upgrade can be done via Wifi to update the new firmware over the air (i.e. no need to connect to computer)

Build information:

Kernel: Linux version 3.0.36+ (root@alex-System-Product-Name) (gcc version 4.6.x-google 20120106 (prerelease) (GCC) ) #108 SMP PREEMPT Tue Sep 24 08:46:43 CST 2013

Android 4.2.2 JB: rk30sdk/rk30sdk/rk30sdk:4.2.2/JDQ39/eng.root.20131015.120826:eng/opinions-on-teclast-p90hdst-keys

Custom firmware features:

  • removed most Chinese and unnecessary applications, removed Certificate Center asking for product key
  • Google Play Store fixes so more application are visible/compatible
  • updated busybox v1.21.0.git (2012-11-29)
  • Unix like init.d boot scripts support, more details on init.d scripts here
  • changed permissions on external sdcard to allow write access
  • increased space for applications (/data partition) to 4 GB
  • NEW! kernel modules (cifs, tun, lan, serial, xpad) compiled by Oma & Crew RKTablets, thank guys!

Download: kasty-pipo-m6_pro-422-ota_107_20131015-rooted4.zip

Flash with Rockchip Batch Tool version 1.7, use Restore button.

Please report any problem with this firmware, I can't verify this custom firmware works as I don't have a PIPO M6 pro tablet to test the custom firmware.

Can you please explain the difference between this firmware that you have customized & your last release as the only changes I have noticed is that you have listed this firmware as "custom" & with OTA support.

I'm a big fan of your work & it is much appreciated. Keep it up dude!

I wish I could, but I haven't seen a revision history of the official firmware 2013/10/15 update from PiPO so I don't know what they have changed. I cant even check and test the firmware myself as I don't have an M6 Pro tablet Confused

With October update, some Pipo M9 pro users mentioned a better working WiFI.

Cheers.

I'll test it out for a few days & report back.

Any updates on the custom kernel I spoke to you about earlier?

Not sure I remember... if it's about overclockable kernel, I still need to experiment with that on other devices.

I'll post updates if there is anything new.

I'm actually impressed with the latest firmware. It seem more snappy and I also achieved a score of 19,135 with Antutu Benchmark which is at least 1,000 points more than previous benchmarks on older releases.

The only problem I ran into is that the launcher restarted itself while doing Play Store updates but other than that, very pleased. Will report any further glitches. Cheers

You can check here:

Rockchip Batch Tool version 1.7 and our flashing guide (made for older devices but it's quite similar with newer RK3188 tablets such as the PiPO M6 pro).

There are also more flashing tips by TecKnight here:

http://www.arctablet.com/blog/forum/fnf-ifive-tablets/fnf-ifive-x2-android-4-2-2-custom-rooted-firmware-based-on-v1-1-5-20130723/page-3/

We have a more up to date flashing tutorial in the works, I was we could get more help on these documenting tasks from the community...

Cheers.

Everyone DO NOT use OTA update. It is useless for the custom firmware. I have just bricked my tablet when I accepted it's request to update.

I agree it's a waste of time. I am trying to reinstall rileyrom 1.2 for my pipo m6 pro 3g but it won't let me do it for some reason rocksub recognizes my device but then when i try and reboot to flash it says "device canot do switch, because of no drive" i have installed the correct drivers for my computer, i want to reflash as the gps has stopped working.

I don't know if you understood my post Mr-Kev. The custom firmware in this thread works beautifully. The OTA update is a feature Pipo introduced. Not the OP.

I would suggest you stick to this firmware & turn OTA updates off. RileyRom 1.2 is not stable.

I am actually looking into disabling OTA in this custom firmware so there is little or no risk to run the update by mistake. I'll post updates when it's ready.

Cheers.

Save yourself the hassle mate. Just make a note for people to turn it off in the settings.

My experience is that notes are not always enough for everyone and it's always good to have some extra protection when possible Wink
