Here is an Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean rooted firmware for the PIPO M6 (model without 3G) tablet based on latest official update from Pipo dated 2013/06/18

(update_DS977_M6_NO3G_chinese_20130618.img)

Kernel: Linux version 3.0.36+ (hkw@mid-server) (gcc version 4.4.3 (GCC) ) #10 SMP PREEMPT Mon Jun 17 12:49:37 CST 2013

Android 4.2.2 JB: rk30sdk/rk30sdk/rk30sdk:4.2.2/JDQ39/eng.ljh.20130617.155202:eng/opinions-on-teclast-p90hdst-keys

Custom firmware features:

  • root with latest SuperSU version 1.32 (free version)
  • removed most Chinese and unnecessary applications
  • Google Play Store fixes so more application are visible/compatible
  • updated busybox v1.21.0.git (2012-11-29)
  • Unix like init.d boot scripts support, more details on init.d scripts here
  • changed permissions on external sdcard to allow write access
  • increased space for applications (/data partition) to 4 GB

Download: kasty-pipo-m6-422-20130618-rooted4.zip

Flash with Rockchip Batch Tool version 1.7, use Restore button.

Please report any problem with this firmware, I can't verify this custom firmware works as I don't have a PIPO M6 tablet to test the custom firmware.

Could you please make a rooted firmware based on the latest official one?

Here it is: http://www.pipo.cn/En/index.php?m=About&a=gujian_show&id=111

Use this manual:

http://www.pipo.cn/En/index.php?m=Contact&a=index&id=248&type=3

Only change the firmware file.

Apparently, Pipo had released a new firmware update, based of SDK 2.0.  There are some reports

of significant improvements in performance.

I found a link to the rooted updated firmware, however my antivirus software found a problem with

downloaded file from that link, I do not want to try it:

http://blog.geekbuying.com/index.php/2013/06/27/newest-sdk2-0-version-pipo-m6-rk3188-quad-core-android-4-2-stock-firmware-root/

Nevertheless, it is interesting.

Ok. So when I go to flash the firmware do I hold the reset button and the volume down button? I'm not sure which button to hold along with the reset button with pipo max m6

I think it is "volume +" button.

Do not forget to:

turn off USB debugging
turn on USB storage.

Also, I would wait for some time until someone competent will issue a custom rooted firmware,

based on the latest device firmware, which includes Rockchip SDK 2.0

I've seen these updates, a new custom firmware will be prepared this week-end.

Cheers.

Advised by admin, I used Titanium Backup application (get it from the Google market).

It allows batch operations.  However, when I wanted to restore the applications after the firmware

upgrade, I had to confirm each application's access rights and press the "Install" button.  May be, I did it wrong, but for me batch operation should not involve this time consuming activity.  It would be

nice to obtain recommendations on better backup/restore procedures from experienced Android guru.
