Please report any problem with this firmware, I can't verify this custom firmware works as I don't have a PiPO M8 Pro to test it.

I have now been using it for a four days on my M8pro 3g. So far so good, it is a very nice firmware upgrade, everything feels faster and smoother. ClockworkMod recovery (OMA version) for kitkat works well with it, unfortunately it cannot be used to go back to a previously backed-up Jelly Bean system. However I cannot see myself ever wanting to go back to the previous OS version, so it is not a real problem.

I was hoping that this firmware would have the Quick Boot feature as on other recent Pipo firmware (e.g. for M7pro or M9pro). Unfortunately it does not.

Many thanks for making this available so quickly.

Thanks for your feedback, glad it works fineĀ Wink

KitKat firmwares on Rockchip devices have a different loader and configuration, that's probably why they can't be restored thru a CWM backup that is not able to handle that. If you want to downgrade at a later time, please have a look here:

http://www.arctablet.com/blog/forum/firmware-flashing-on-rockchip-based-devices/downgrading-android-44-firmware-to-android-43-earlier-rockchip-based-devices/

Ā

As for Quickboot, I haven't yet seen the feature available on any KitKat firmware for a Rockchip device for now.

Ā

Cheers.

Hi, without really knowing what I was doing, I downloaded this firmware and the Rockchip Batch Tool 1.7, connected my Pipo M8pro to my PC via USB, used a Youtube video for upgrading Pipo firmware as a reference and I am happy to report that everything went very smoothly! Ā I've been using the new firmware for a couple of days. Ā It seems smooth and fast and increases internal storage to 4GB. Ā It's great! Ā Thank you so much!

The only problem I found (probably not related to the firmware) is that the latest version of Netflix (3.4) from Google Play did not work. Ā I found an earlier version (3.1) and it works just fine.

Thanks again!

I think it is the same with me. The frequency range given by Antutu is 312 ~ 1608.0 mhz, but the 4 core tests only reach a max of 1416 mhz.

The Antutu ranking is 17646, a little below what it was with the latest JB firmware.

The subjective impression however is of a faster and smoother machine... go figure.

First of all thank you for a great rom! I have installed it on m8pro 3g, working smoothly with almost no issues.

I have face one problem till now, the 3G is not working. When I try to search networks manually, it searches and registers with the network, for a brief moment I see the network signal icon and it disappears.

And the DATA doesn't work, weather I reboot with wifi off or turn wifi off and on again. Any ideas?

My M8pro with this Arctablet ROM connects easily to 3G networks here in Australia, however the M8pro only supports HSPA/WCDMA: 2100/900MHz 3G bands, not the WCDMA (HSPA) 3G 850/1900 frequency bands.

In the US and a few other other countries HSPA/WCDMA: 2100/900MHz 3G is not available. Check with your 3G SIM card supplier what frequencies they make available. If you cannot run with 3G because of this limitation, you may be able to connect with a 2G edge network.

For the US, if relevant to your case, see the info on this old forum post (near the bottom of the post): http://www.androidtablets.net/forum/rockchip-rk3188-tablets/58049-first-impressions-pipo-m8-pro-3g-tablet.html

Ā

Thanks for the info about the frequencies, very informative, But the 3G was already working on JB.

About my problem, correction from my side here, the mobile data works on this rom, I tested it. Preferred data network was selected as 3G but it was using edge, possible reason is that the signal strength is very low. I will test again on some other place and if 3G didnt work, I will report here.

I have installed Xposed framework with ApOps and GravityBox, customized a bit and feel great. Its smooth and works fine for my uses. Antutu got 17950.

About the kernel, is there any kernel we can use to make cpu go upto 1800 ghzĀ  or 1600 ghz max as its supposed to? may be from fnf ifive.

Also is there anyway to select a cpu governor for performance or battery saving when needed?

Installed the latest ROM and so far, so good. The only problem is that when I try to enable WiFi hotspot it shows the error message...

Any workout around this?

I have the 3G version of the tablet which never gets into deep sleep, so I have not encountered this problem.

Resetting the device by inserting a pin (for example the end of small paper-clip) into the reset pin-hole at the back usually works both when the tablet is on and when it is off. Have you tried this when your M8Pro cannot wake up?
