ClockworkMod (CWM) Recovery easy install for RK3066 and RK3188 -- TWRP/CWM Flash-Tool and root for RK3288
Please donate to support OMA and CrewRKTablets firmware work, thank you !
Here is an Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean rooted firmware for the PiPO M8 PRO (3G model)
it is based on latest official update published on 2013/11/11.
( update-M8pro_3G_20130917.img )
Build information:
Kernel: Linux version 3.0.36+ (root@alex-System-Product-Name) (gcc version 4.4.3 (GCC) ) #282 SMP PREEMPT Tue Sep 17 14:38:20 CST 2013
Android 4.2.2 JB: rk30sdk-eng 4.2.2 JDQ39 eng.root.20131111.151640 test-keys
ro.rksdk.version=RK30_ANDROID4.2.2-SDK-v1.00.00
Notes:
- Certificate Center and original PiPO launchers have been kept in the firmware
- Certificate Center will ask for product key, which is not needed, just hit later and connect to Internet and it will be activated
- any update received thru OTA may interfere with our custom firmware, we recommend not to apply any OTA update
Custom firmware features:
- root with latest SuperSU version 1.65 (free version)
- removed most Chinese and unnecessary applications
- Google Play Store fixes so more application are visible/compatible
- updated busybox v1.21.0.git (2012-11-29)
- Unix like init.d boot scripts support, more details on init.d scripts here
- changed permissions on external sdcard to allow write access
- increased space for applications (/data partition) to 4 GB
- kernel modules (cifs, tun, lan, serial, xpad) compiled by Oma & Crew RKTablets, thank guys!
- NEW! : optional ClockworkMod (CWM) Recovery easy install package
- all launchers have been kept: stock Android, Kid Launcher and PiPO launcher
Download: kasty-pipo-m8_pro_3G-422-20131111-rooted4.zip
Flash with Rockchip Batch Tool version 1.7, use Restore button.
Please report any problem with this firmware, I can't verify this custom firmware works as I don't have a PIPO M8 Pro tablet to test the custom firmware.

Hello and thank you for custom ROM,
Is it possible to revert to any oficial ROM from Pipo? Partition formatting causes any problem?
Does this ROM fix the battery draining of this tablet in sleep mode?
Regards,

Thanks for this ROM. It installs flawlessly.
Compared to my previous ROM (arcTablet M8 pro 3G from 2 iterations ago) the tablet is now faster and smoother, wifi is significantly improved.
Trying it over 2 days I have only found a very minor issue which probably comes from the base stock ROM: the speaker sound level buttons are slightly brighter than the other buttons, nothing to worry about.
The line: NEW! : optional ClockworkMod (CWM) Recovery easy install package had me think that there was an option for this during installation, but I did not see one. However since the arcTools are there, installation of CWM is a breeze.

Used a different 3G network sim and got connected - but not a very strong signal.
The M8 pro 3G does not support the 850MHZ frequency that several networks are using, depending on your country. I got caught here in Australia where the first card I bought was for a 850MHZ network. Of course, then the tablet could not connect. You have to select a network that uses 900MHZ. You would find a good choice of suitable networks in most parts of the world, but you'd be out of luck in the US for example where you could only use 2G at that frequency.
I do not see a change in 3G signal strength after updating my ROM to this one.
Cheers

Thanks for the info. At last I have discovered what the problem is. The 3G sim is not making a good connection when pushed in. As an interim measure I wedged a very thin piece of plastic foil behind the sim and now it works. Anyone know how to open M8 Pro ??? I would like to do a more permanent fix.
Regards

Images at this Chinese site show how to open the case. However they use a small screwdriver to pry open the corner. To avoid scratches, I would suggest using strong guitar picks instead.
I personally use two plastic prying tools. A search for "Plastic phone's LCD Screen Opening Pry Tool Opener" on eBay will give you a good choice.
Also they show starting at the power switch corner, be careful that switch is fragile. I start at the opposite corner... safer.

Hi Admin
Found this on a Russian site. It's 4.4.2 KitKat. https://disk.yandex.com/public/?hash=anfq4cC6nLTS/qnVcYxD4UrzjU9miyYKWfEAmwctEDs%3D
Seems like this guy has been doing a re-vamp of his previous rom.
Might be worth a try.
EDIT Am running this firmware and all seems OK. Perhaps ADMIN needs to do a couple of his magical tweaks to improve it. Think sergiopoverony ported it from U8

EDIT Mailed Anna again on 20/03/2013 here is her reply
Dear Friend,I am afraid I am not sure about this. (4.4 release date)Our technicians gave me that answer before, and when I asked them again after the Spring Festival, they didn't gave me answer. What I know is that they are testing the 4.4 firmware.Best regards,AnnaPiPo Technology Co,.Ltd(digisino group)金森数码产品(深圳)有限公司

Cheers.
