AndrewDB from armtvtech.com & slatedroid.com has managed to get Ubuntu running on RK3066: currently tested on UG802 & MK808 Mini PCs.

The installation procedure is described on slatedroid here:

http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/41453-pre-alpha-02-ubuntu-linux-for-mk802-iii-ug802-mk808/

We have built an update.img firmware image based on AndrewDB recovery, which makes the flash process a little easier.

Firmware image download: RK3066_ubuntu_prealpha02_update_img.zip (tested on MK808)

AndrewDB Ubuntu image mirror (version pre-alpha 0.2): rk3066_ubuntu_prealpha02_linux_root.tgz

Hi all,

I am a new user and i need help. Sorry for the english.

I have a mk802 III with rk3066.

I have read that i can't use 3D openGL support for games.

I need to install a webcam and run some face-tracking code and I want to know if with this ubuntu (linux), i could use the openGL libraries for use the openCV libraries (http://opencv.org) or the openframeworks libraries (http://www.openframeworks.cc/download/)?

thanks.

As for OpenFrameworks, it will probably require some work, but there has been some work to get it to run on an Raspberry Pi.

http://forum.openframeworks.cc/index.php?topic=10084.0

Accelerated OpenGL on RK3066 based devices is probably another story due to the missing source code for the Mali400 GPU.

You need to burn the image to your sdcard with Win32 Disk Imager, download the firmware update and install it to your MiniPC. I am planning to prepare an updated package with latest Picuntu modules and Mali 400 support together with more detailed instructions.

I'll post more information in a couple of days.

Hello guys,

This looks really interesting!

I have a NEO G4 RK3066, I guess it would run on that too!?

Also I really don't care for the gui, I will only use it as a small server.

Regards

Frank

tim_niklas,

The link you post is an outdated package that has been removed, please check updates with PicUntu here: http://www.arctablet.com/mirrors/picuntu/ Our articles about PicUntu: http://www.arctablet.com/blog/category/os/linux/picuntu/

There is also PicUntu homeio edition, a complete pre-installed Linux system for RK3066:

http://www.arctablet.com/blog/featured/picuntu-homeio-edition-complete-pre-installed-linux-rk3066-mk808-minipcs/

Cheers.
