Here is latest Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update for the Onda V972 tablet (hardware V1) based on newest Onda firmware release version 3.2 dated 2013/07/04. This firmware actually uses the same version number as previous Onda release, but the build dates for kernel and Android system are more recent. It's very possible that previous firmware released in June was a pre-release and this new 3.2 is a final release.

Compared to firmware version 3.0 or older, this update brings many enhancements such as a faster boot (5 seconds !) smoother system and a reduced power consumption in stand-by mode.

Firmware build information:

Linux Kernel:  Linux version 3.3.0 (lgm@SzExdroid5) (gcc version 4.6.3 20120201 (prerelease) (crosstool-NG linaro-1.13.1-2012.02-20120222 - Linaro GCC 2012.02) ) #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Jul 4 09:43:24 CST 2013

Android system: onda/fiber_onda978q9/fiber-onda978q9:4.2.2/JDQ39/20130704:eng/opinions-on-teclast-p90hdst-keys

Our rooted custom firmware features:

  • root with latest SuperSU 1.34 (free version)
  • system default setup English
  • removed most Chinese and unnecessary applications
  • Google Play Store fixes so more application are visible/compatible
  • updated busybox¬†v1.21.0.git (2012-11-29)
  • Unix like¬†init.d boot scripts support, more details on init.d scripts¬†here
  • changed permissions on external sdcard to allow write access

Download: kasty-onda_v972_v1-422-v32_20130704-rooted0.zip

Flash with PhoenixSuite (tutorial)

After flashing the tablet, a Setup Wizard should display on first boot to configure your network, regional settings, etc… If the wizard does not appear, just disconnect your USB cable from the tablet, make a short press on the power button to turn off the screen. After the screen is turned of, press the power button for a short time again to power the tablet, the Setup wizard should appear.

This custom firmware has been tested and reported to work on the Onda V972 tablet (hardware V1 model)

Downloaded and tried to install but get an error message. It says 3% and then the bar moves quickly and bam! Error message. Maybe my download was corrupted so I am re-downloading it.

Successfully reflashed previous Kasty version to my Onda 972 v1.

Thanks for your feedback and sorry about this issue.

I don't think it's a corrupted file problem, as we do check file integrity for all uploads.

I'll have a look if I can find any changes Onda made between the two firmwares. In the meantime, I'm removing the download.

Cheers.

I thought maybe I was as well but I was able to install a previous version without disconnecting from the PC.

1. While USB is still attached hold down the power button until you hear the PC sound the disconnect.

2. Select the firmware file in PhoenixSuit.

3. Hold the power button until you hear it reconnect.

It should start installing at that point.

I thought I was after trying to flash this new rom. I pressed and held the power button for 10 seconds then flashed the previous 3.2 rom in the usual way and it is working again . Good  luck.
