Es explorer must use left menu in tools section select ''root explorer'' select ''mount rw'' then on top menu select ''/'' left of sd card. Now you have super user privileges and can replace elements.
Thanks m8, all done, very good in deed. Â Now we have to work out how to get the battery to last much longer
I replaced the initlogo.bmp inside the media folder, but still display the original bmp during my v972 v1 reboot. Looks like the old image is cached in the system and did replace by the new bmp. I can understand it would have been blank if my own initlogo.bmp has issue, but does not make sense still showing the original bmp have been deleted. Any idea why the deleted image still display?Â

Hello,
has someone here the same problem installing some apps to sd-card ?
When installing i get the message "couldnt install on usb storage or sd-card" (or something like that -> i get a german message
i searched for that and found out that i should delete the smdl2tmp1.asec maybe in
/sdcard/.android_secure or in /mnt/secure/asec/
but both folders are empty (i checked with total commander on the tablet)
I have reset my onda to factory default 2 days ago and i dont know if the problem was there before.
Does someone has a hint for me what to do ?
best regards,
Thomas

Well, after very carefully testing the Onda V972 is basically a "toy", good enough for surfing the web, watching youtube, or listening to music. It cannot be considered even close to the likes of Samsung, Acer etc in performance, the V972 is unpredictable, irritatingly sensitive, and I can't even scroll on some pages without everything opening and the zoom function having a life of its own and getting out of control, all by itself.Â
One could never use this tablet for any type of productivity, or other serious endeavour, the tablet is not any good, even trying to get it to open tabs within pages is a major problem, everything just goes out of control. I open my email page, then try and open an email, but it won't open as the command system is all wrong, then after a while it may decide to open, and this applies to all pages that are opened. Nothing works properly and never will as the Chinese like gimmicks and toys and this is exactly what the Onda tablets are, all of them, just toys.
Â
The next tablet I buy will most certainly be from a leading brand, as these mainland Chinese tablets are basically "toys" for the children to play with and then simply discarded.
I fully agree with Foxxy on this.
I bought 973 after reading lots of good reviews on this site and others. I waited for months so that I could get a half decent tablet before buying.
I have rearely been this dissappointed with ridiculous off the chart glowing reviews.
The tablet is bloody garbage. The micro usb cable does not fit. Onda never sends you a proper reply, just tell you that they will send new cable when factory makes it available. May be 2018
The volume is non existent almost. I could not hear one bloody word while using this tablet in plane. Had to put it back in theback after 5 minutes. the firmware upgrade instructions are not clear at all anywhere. I am afraid to start flashing this POS. Sending it back to China means another $50 and who knows if I will get it back ror when or any better!
A complete waste of $300
And yet so many here mentioned that the tablet is fantastic.
I can understand businessmen raving about this kind of stuff but western countries based user reviews......
No wonder foxxy typed in all bold

Onda is crappy with stock ROM but you could make it more usable with installing another one. If you are not skilled in this it sure can become a piece of unusable plastic.
I have Onda 972 V2 with AOKP, Android 4.3.1 and don't experiencing any of mention problems. I also tried CyanogenMod 10.2 and is/was OK as well while had random crashes with all stock(or Kasty) up to 3.2.1 .... With 972 there is also no problem with HDMI cable like on 973.
I am using it daily mostly for reading (Feedly) and browsing (Google search + stock browser). For example: Google maps is working OK, no force close. With this I had problems on stock.
There are for sure bugs but so far I could not locate them in my usage scenario. Battery is also not sufficient but could be solved with cheap upgrade.
You have to work hard to get you where it should be with stock. If I compare this tablet to others, Samsung included, you could notice they also got bugs and specially a lot of bloat in their stock. Maybe just not that much

Thanks for the detailed reply. Finally I took the plunge and successfully upgraded v 973 v2 to 3.2.1
It is remarkably better than the stock 3.2 version. Volume is at least 25% louder and pretty much near acceptable range now. Hopefully I will be able ot hear the sound in planes while travelling, the main purpose for which I had bought the tablet.
I have also cut the protective casing of micro usb casing so it connects a bit better but probably will have to buy a cable from ebay.
I folowed the install instructions from http://www.arctablet.com/blog/featured/phoenixsuit-flashing-tutorial-onda-v972-v812-allwinner-a31-tablets/ and they worked perfectly allright.
I can also confirm that I have upgraded to 3.2.1 stock firmware as well as 3.2.1 custom rom by katsy and both were installed without any problem. Katsy custom rom is all English.
Now I will follow instructions to root it an duse titanium pro to back it up.
All is well that ends well......but I wont buy expensive stuff from China next time.
