Dear Admin,

Is there an easy way to fix the external SD write permission issue during the interim before your next release? Thanks much much!

Update:

Google'd and found the following from XDA. I tried it and it worked. Now I can set my Titanium backup directory on external SD. Below is the editing needed on "platform.xml":

Quote:
For editing "platform.xml" use ES File Explorer From The Play Store

-Use a root explorer to edit /system/etc/permissions/platform.xml

-Find this section Code:

<permission name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" >
<group gid="sdcard_rw" />
</permission>

-Add this Code:

<permission name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" >
<group gid="sdcard_rw" />
<group gid="media_rw" />
</permission>

-Save and reboot

I have this one:

http://dx.com/p/premium-wrapped-hdmi-to-mini-hdmi-cable-1-8m-14031

and HDMI is working just fine. My Onda is V2 with previous beta fw.

with all respect to the rom cook, but are you sure this is a "genuine" 4.2.2?

And not another chinese-tweaked 2.0 original Onda Rom?

If the answer is yes, where is the Multi-User feature? (present in the "Beta"!)

I will extract this Rom and the chinese Original later, to check some things.

Smells a little bit....Confused

I don't have the firmware source code and haven't compiled it, I just made some modifications on the binary I got. I really can't confirm 100% it's an official firmware, still based on my tests and most feedback we have in the forum, it's probably the best firmware we have so far for the Onda V972.

I'm now completing some additional fixes so more apps are visible / compatible in Google Play Store and the external sdcard is writable. The resulting firmware update should be released shortly.

Cheers.

I am aware of that.

And we all *should* know, that the chinese original is not "official".

Otherwise it would have been advertised on the onda.cn Website.

But this is not the point, the point is, that I don't believe, this Rom/the chinese original is a real/genuine 4.2.2!

No multi-user support!

And the complete hardware works incl. video hardware acceleration.

My tip: a tweaked 4.1.1/2

I think it's more than tweaks, there is a different kernel and some serious differences in the binaries between this 3.0 and version 2.0 (final) or previous 2.x betas. Still, I agree we can have doubts since it's not available on Onda official page (onda.cn)

I'll update my post #1 for the custom firmware to reflect that info, but again I think it's the best firmware we have so far and I'll rebuild the custom firmware anyway when we get official news from Onda.

My first test with every of these (custom/chinese) Roms:

Can Mx Player use the native Android Hardware-Acceleration... (not HW+)?

If yes, it is either an official supported Manufacturers Rom (NDA) or the source code is available, because MX needs to communicate with the Android media framework.

In Onda's/andmanyothercases, this framework is heavily modified and doesn't follow Android standards, so without Onda's help...impossible.

That's the reason, why we don't have a fully working cyanogenmod or XBMC with video HW-acceleration...

In summary: working HW-acceleration but no genuine 4.2.2 multi-user support...your opinion?Cool

Really, not the official 4.2.2 - v3.0 ! :( ok I did notice that the v3.0 is not on onda.cn site, not good, but nevertheless its working v3.0 custom.

I like many people have checked the official F-back Onda page, & post questions & had no responce.  I have even gone to there official forum F- zzkko etc. but again no response.

Do you think when they come out with an official firmware it will also deal with the dismal battery problem by enabling the Power management feature on the Onda v972 A31 chip.

Personally I didn't have much luck with this approach and ended up buying this app, only £1:

Yes, I'm holding off applying this until the official ROM is out. I'm hoping that admin will re-release the ROM when the official one is released by Onda............

I installed it this morning and so far it's not bad but I cannot get No Frills CPU Controller (or other such as CPU Control Lite) to work. Trying to set my Max CPU to 1152mHz and minimum to 624. No Frills gives me an error asking if I remembered to grant Super User, which I have. CPU Control Lite won't let me set the min or max mhz.

The version you installed is not rooted.  The apps you mentioned will not work correctly until you root your device using eroot or WMShua, or another rooting app.  Yes, the official Onda updates have been rooted but this unofficial version is NOT rooted for whatever reason.

I have updated post #1 and published a new firmware update with the following changes:

  • Edit 2013/05/17: changed permissions on external sdcard to allow write access
  • Edit 2013/05/17: added new Google Play Store fixes so more application are visible/compatible

(there are still some apps that are not visible or compatible, we are working on a better fix)

According to Root Checker it is rooted.
