Update 2013/05/17 : This release is based on firmware version 3.0 that has been published on the Internet for the Onda V972 (hardware V1) to update to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. This version 3.0 firmware hasn't yet been published on Onda official website, so it's not sure whether it's an official release or not.

The stock Onda V3.0 firmware corrects many issues from the previous Android 4.2.2 beta (Youtube videos, top right notification, system Force closes)

For the short time I used this 3.0 update it seems quite solid and so the custom firmware modifications will be limited to a few fixes, Chinese apps clean up. The biggest issue I'm having with this firmware is unstable WiFI with one of my Access Points (Netgear WNDR3700v3 - Broadcom BCM4718A1 chipset)

Our rooted custom firmware features:

  • root with latest SuperSU 1.25 (free version)
  • system default setup English
  • removed most Chinese and unnecessary applications
  • updated busybox¬†v1.21.0.git (2012-11-29)
  • Unix like¬†init.d boot scripts support, more details on init.d scripts¬†here
  • Edit 2013/05/17: changed permissions on external sdcard to allow write access
  • Edit 2013/05/17: added new Google Play Store fixes so more application are visible/compatible

(there are still some apps that are not visible or compatible, we are working on a better fix)

Flash with PhoenixSuite (tutorial)

After flashing the tablet, a Setup Wizard should display on first boot to configure your network, regional settings... If the wizard does not appear, just disconnect your USB cable from the tablet, make a short press on the power button to turn off the screen. After the screen is turned of, press the power button for a short time again to power the tablet, the Setup wizard should appear.

First of all, thanks for your hard work, I really appreciate it. In fact, I think I will show my appreciation a little better by pressing the PayPal donate button soon.

Now, I have a question: You state that and I quote: "The biggest issue I'm having with this firmware is unstable WiFI with one of my Access Points (Netgear WNDR3700v3 - Broadcom BCM4718A1 chipset)" unquote.

Does that mean that the WiFi still works good with other wireless modems and routers?

It should, at least it works fine with another WiFI AP I have here (Fonera 2).

I indicated the faulty Netgear AP reference just for the record, but it would be nice to have feedback about WiFI performance from other users.

Cheers.

OP would you please post a version for the v812??  I haven't seen one yet, nor been able to find it on the unofficial Chinese download site.  Thanks.

TWRP stands for "Team Win Recovery Project". It is a custom recovery app for rooted devices. You can find more info here: http://www.teamw.in/project/twrp

Many thanks to admin.

I would like to know how can I take screenshots using this version. The soft key seems missing.

Thanks again.

Installed this new kasty CWM and first impressions are good.

It appears to be smoother and snappier running apps and between screens.

Tried the fateful ASDA app on PLAY storeYell, but alas has compatibility issues. The app ran on previous kasty v2.3.3 rooted3, so any ideas why it doesn't run now.

But once again a fine release AdminCool

Thanks a million for such fast tweaking.  I just hit the donate button and hopefully some other guys will to.  (we want to keep this effort going).

Do you know if it fixed the issues with google sync service and with google currents? (probably a related issue) I havn't had a chance to test it out yet (forgot my tablet home).

Thanks

Running an Onda v972 V2 that is actually a V1 (even stock V2 FW doesn't work) Updated to a Samsung Galaxy Note 2014 now.  Working as a data recovery engineer at Data Medics data recovery company.  Here's my homepage.  If you have a data recovery issue with your tablet PM me.  I'm not here too often so I might not see a topic reply.

Thanks _again_ for your support Wink

I haven't had time to check yet for the Google Currents problems.

I let you have a look and report about the issue, if it's still there I'll see what I can do.

Cheers.
