Hello V972 owners !

I did root my tablet using the "Onda_Allwinner_A31_root_v1_0.zip" and tablet's update app.

I see that many people use the "Phoenix" suite.

My question is what is the difference ?

Thanks.

Flashing our custom firmware (see post #1) with PhoenixSuite updates the tablet configuration so Google Play Store lists/let you install more apps and it's based on latest official Onda firmware version 1.32.

If you're happy with your current setup, there's no need to flash Wink

Thanks for the reply admin !

The long story is that I used the Onda_Allwinner_A31_root_v1_0.zip because this was the first way to root I found. But after a few days I got some apps shutting down unexpectedly and finally (today) the tablet did not boot again being blocked at the Onda logo. I managed to do a factory reset and the tablet is now with android 4.1.1 baseband 1.21. I happens to be rooted.

Now I don't know what to do. Is the system that is installed with the method described on post #1 more stable ?

I don't have a windows system running so the phoenix way is a bit more complicated for me. Is it possible to install this firmware using the update app that is on the tablet ?

From the reports I've seen, firmware 1.32 seems more stable than previous versions.

Flashing a firmware (such our custom one) using PhoenixSuit is like fully resetting everything, it's a low level tool that works only with complete firmware images. On the other hand, OTA updates (small zip packages) aren't compatible with complete images so you can't fully flash a device this way.

As far as I know, PhoenixSuit is only available for Windows, I don't think there are similar tools for Linux yet.

I don't recommend using a virtual machine for these kind of things, as flashing programs are quite low level tools that require perfect USB ports handling. Best you can do is probably find someone with a Windows PC.

Here is our flashing guide if needed.

Cheers.

Coming from your stock firmware 1.2 you should be able to directly flash the stock or our custom 1.32 firmware with PhoenixSuit.

I am also very interested to hear any developments on this issue.

Other than this small problem I've been very happy with how its been running so hopefully this can be addressed so I can delete the stock launcher and edit the XML files.

Thanks!

Thanks for the details. I learned something today.

Did you fix the permission issue in the custom firmware (I am talking about this problem: http://www.chainfire.eu/articles/113/Is_Google_blocking_apps_writing_to_SD_cards_/) ?

If not, can you include it in the next version ?

I think this fix would benefit a lot of users judging by the number of messages that can be found on the net complaining about the impossibility to let apps write on /mnt/extsd .

If it is possible to do the fix without a new firmware, it's ok but I have not discovered how to do it yet.
