I'll do a custom firmware for V2 hardware tablets for supporting users or if there is high demand for it.

Cheers.

How do you get the .rar files so quickly? I don't see them at onda.cn or onda-tablet and you always have an arctablet version before I find the Chinese version!

Thanks for all the work you do.

Actually while cleaning the unnecessary apps, I missed 2 Chinese apps. It's corrected now and I've published a new update see post #1 (kasty-onda_v972_V2-422-v23beta-rooted4.zip)

arrasmith, the firmware isn't on Onda site yet, I followed the download link given by a forum member here.

Quick test with the custom firmware, it works quite well, I've just noticed a few occasional Force Close.

Latest Youtube downloaded from Google Play Store works fine too, I can see the video Wink

Still, I'm getting some video buffering in Youtube, not sure if it's the firmware update, that may related to my current Internet connection.

Cheers.

Well ... I just donated for keeping v813 supported. And I'm highly demanding as well. Does that count?

Thanks for your support Wink

I'll do the custom firmware for the V813 as soon as I see a release by Onda, don't hesitate to let me know if you read about it before me.

Cheers.

At second look while testing this beta, I'm not completely satisfied with this firmware, to say the least.

I found Force Closes are a little too frequent, Youtube doesn't play well and the whole system isn't really smooth. Let's hope Onda makes a better final version of their firmware or they quickly provide fixed releases. It would be great to have a stable Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update, there are some important new features like multi-user support.

I loaded the new beta version -- here's my impression:

1) Android process .acore continually closes (and restarts) -- looked up the problem and it relates to apps that use the sync feature. So email, Google Play, etc will constant cause this to pop up. It's annoying but generally doesn't close the app. Turning off sync helps.

2) The tablet is a bit better for browsing. No wait / close messages, works mostly as expected.

3) More app compatibility -- Finding apps I was not able to load in other versions available, such as Yelp.

4) A little lag with Nova launcher sliding between screens that I haven't noticed previously.

5) One of the main concerns I have had since day 1 is still a problem. When the tablet has had the screen off for a few minutes or more, and you turn it back on, the wifi seems connected, but then goes grey then back to blue and doesn't work during that time. So there is always a minute or so of reestablishing the connection which is annoying when you just want to turn it on to check your mail.

6) I think generally there is a 2d performance problem with this tablet. If you go to dev settings and use 'force gpu rendering of 2d content' the tablet is more responsive graphically but still not perfect. I've never gotten the 2d performance to match an old tablet I have that is over a year old, and was a cheap one -- a Le Pan II. Further example -- in flipboard on this tablet when paging between an article's pages, there is a graphic lag that casuses a page flash. It has happened with every FW. Old tablet: Never seen this problem in the same app.

7) The antutu scores with this version are the worst yet. The tablet feels more response for the most part, but Antutu has steadily declined with each iteration, with this version clocking in around 9600. That's just a benchmark and real performance seems better, but still concerning.

So, this tablet for me is still waiting for a good, stable and usable firmware that will match my old Le Pan performance before I actually customize and add all my apps -- hopefully that will be one day soon. Each version gets a little better but in general this tablet doesn't match my old tablet's performance, and its specs are half the Onda's. All I really want is some stability, wifi that doesn't have to reconnect every time I turn it on, and 2d performance that matches tablets with half the specs. Oh, and the battery. . . ugh.

Thanks for your feedback dasmarian.

I think this firmware should be used knowing it's a beta version. While some of the bugs reported may be fixable in the custom firmware, I'd rather wait a bit to see if Onda releases 2.3 version final by the end of the day as it was announced.

Cheers.

Oh yeah absolutely -- no complaints and I understand it is a beta. I was just pointing out some of the items I'm seeing with it -- didn't expect it to be a finished product. Thanks for your work -- every version is a bit better than the last.
