The performance is very poor, all processes are very slow, I think that is due to low RAM. In the specifications reported 1 gb and the device has 740 Mb

Today, I have sent back the device.

Technical support says that is normal because apps take a RAM... I don't agree, I explained a little about RAM =available+used for apps...

the ram will never be exactly 1gb (except on high end phones where they need to offer what is on the paper)

Ex:
My tablet has 512 ram, 64 mb are going to the video, another 64 on other process required by the tablet to start-up, and only 380 are available for me to really access and use as i want.
The same principle is used on many other android devices.

My HTC one x, has 1gb, and usually 800 mb are always used :) .

I agree with you, not 1 gb exactly is normal, maybe 900, 950 mb, but only 740 isn't normal (260 mb less)

On your Tablet with 512 Mb RAM after start boot you have 380 Mb RAM available, this is normal, but
In Onda V818 Mini with 1 gb RAM after erase all Apps and user data and after the first boot I have only 372 mb RAM Available!!!

This device has a very big problem

Can I flash back to firmware 2.0? The new firmware seems not too stable for me... TQ.

I really don't know, but i think you can... if you try flashing it with format mode with phoenix, wiping data/factory reset before.

some guys on this forum may agree (or not) with this, you can try but i'm not responsible if it don't work.

Hmmm, well, I guess people all have different perspectives....

The tablet definitely runs much more smoothly that previously with this ROM for me.  No issues to report.

I always thought that unused memory was "wasted" memory in Android unlike Windows.  Ther eis no point in "freeing up" RAM as Android will automatically free up the memory it needs as it goes along.   Just because you see things under "Running" does not mean they are consuming processing power at the expense of your device's smooth operation.

The so-called missing RAM is used by the OS.  Different devices, versions of the OS, implementations, system apps, etc... equals different OS sizes.

I think you guys must have the OEM versions of Onda V818 as I too have this tablet and it works absolutely, I see no speed difference in internet or even playing videos in HD when compared to Cube or any other tablets.

You need to know where to buy your tablets from.
