Thanks for that!

There ae a couple of things I don't really understand though....

Arctools. I've looked to download Gapps, it goes through a download sequence and intalls,  but it doesn't seem to actually do it.  When I reboot and look in the app tray nothing has changed, no Gmail, Maps, Chrome...

Also, I can't find anyway of installing CMW or TWRP?  Are the options simply not there yet?

It is probably because I don't understand what i am doing but any help would be gratefully received.

palexr,

You shouldn't use Android Market / Google play store install feature in ArcTools, it won't work on Onda tablets as it's designed for other tablets.

CWM/TWRP install (see tutorial here) isn't enabled yet on the Onda V818, that's why you don't see the CWM / TWRP items in the list of packages in ArcTools, they will be enabled at a later time.

Cheers.

Hi,

I installed the custom firmware above. I find browsing to be a bit sluggish even though i get about 15/20 mega on speedtest.

Any way to improve overall performance? I tried different browsers and could not see any bigger difference.

I installed the ROM as well and it seems fine to me.  However, I have been having real issues with Chrome on the V818.  I find that the stock browser or Firefox are definitely faster though not fast enough...

Hi, just to update, I changed the DPI to 160 (from the native 213) which replicates the larger tablets and I can say that Chrome seems to be much faster. Not sure why that would be but it definitely seems to be.

The interface looks better to too, the toolbar layout is much more like AOSP with the pull up tab at the bottom right. A definite improvement on the phablet layout for me - and smoother.

I used an app called Density Changer from the Play Store.

I guess if you want to manage screens etc I would load a alternative Launcher like Apex.

Hello, I think I bricked the tablet when trying to update, now will not start and when connected to phoenix windows tells me it does not recognize the driver and sometimes does not say anything directly. Can you help please?

Use another usb cable, and also the usb ports from the back of the pc unit, this does not apply on laptops

Yo dude.. this is pretty good.. thanks for this.. as one of the other guys stated that it is a little laggy.. but I installed Apex launcher.. and removed default launcher via titanium backup. I also installed SuperCharger found over at XDA Developers and now this thing flies!!!!

keep it coming!!!

BTW, You should post this stuff on XDA Developers website.. I was just over there and there are a ton of people that want developers for Onda tablets.. you will also probably get help from the other DEV's too. just a thought!

Nice to hear that it went well, I might try and flash it as well although it would be my first try and i'm kind of intimidated of it...

Btw guys, does the tablet need to be rooted to allow debugging of application install using adb or is there some other way?

I'm having some problems with one app I'd like to install on the tablet. I got the .apk directly from the developer, since I couldnt get it from Google play, aparently quite a lot of apps aren't "compatible".

When I try to install it I just get -> "X App not installed" and a button "Done"...The app is opensource so if someone could take a look and make it compatible I would be very glad :) ..Or if someone could try it on their own tablet and just give me the debug output.

Is there a workaround for the non-compatible apps?

Sorry for all the questions!
Regards!
