Here is one of the first rooted custom firmwares for the Onda V812 tablet, it is based on latest official V1.32 release from Onda.

Custom firmware features:

- root with latest SuperSU 1.04 (free version)

- system default setup English

- removed most Chinese and unnecessary applications

- Google Play Store fixes so more application are visible/compatible

Download: kasty-onda_v812-41-v132-rooted.zip

Flash with [[** please register to see this link **]]

I am releasing this firmware for testers, but haven't tested it yet, for some reason PhoenixSuite does not want to put my Onda 812 in flash mode. I am confident it should work smooth as I built it the same way as my [[** please register to see this link **]] that is confirmed to work properly by several users.

The custom firmware we've done is a complete firmware image that needs to be flashed thru PhoenixSuit, that's the only option and it can not be updated thru OTA.

Cheers.

Did you get online update notice ? last time i got it on status bar & then i did online update.. which was successful.

Anyway  there is offline update option also , where you have to select folder of the setup file… does it work ??

As i mentioned, it won't work.

The update application can do OTA updates online (WiFI) or offline, but it works only with update.zip type format which is different than the custom firmware we're supplying.

Cheers.

I don't know, but maybe when there are a lot of changed files the package is too big for OTA and it's better for them to put a full firmware build.

I don't think PhoenixSuit will work well with VirtualPC on a Mac, so it's probably best to find someone with a PC to help you.

Many thanks for this First of hopefully many Custom Roms.  One question is I've noticed that my internal memory has gone from 2gb to 1gb (Apps Memory).  Is this correct or do I need to do something to put it back to 2gb. Thanks in advance and keep up the good work.

I slightly reduced the system partition size but it doesn't have any impact on the storage space for apps.

I'll double check that once I can flash my firmware on the V812. For the moment, I'm stuck with "Begin to Upgrade Firmware to Device" and progress bar at 0% when putting my device in flash mode.

I'm open to any tips getting my V812 to flash my firmware Smile

Cheers.

I had the same problem.  What I did was flash Official Firmware v1.0, then v1.2 , then v1.32 and finally your Custom Rom using PhoenixSuit.  Its a bit long winded but it worked. I Hope this helps.

You're a star Darren Cool

That was it, it's just not possible to flash v1.0 to 1.32.

I'm posting firmware v1.2 mirror in case anybody else need it: [[** please register to see this link **]]

I'll have a look at the apps partition size later this week-end.

Cheers.

Thanks Darren – great job!

I will check it later couse now I've got mine rooted (+ XML and prop.build set as GT-N8000) – what gives me chance to play BackStab and other games on great details. Promise to check it after weekend.

U mentioned to put here our ideas for next ROM. Here we go:

  • App2SD script that is used inside CM (it makes that our SD card (extsd) works as the internal memory and sdcard – when u put 64 Gb sdxd u have plenty space for ur apps and apps data. Now u can install 2-3 Gameloft Games and there is no space for other). Here is what im writing about : [[** please register to see this link **]]
  •  Battery tweak – ffs its only 2h now!
  • task manager (with widged) to clean RAM
  • ES File Explorer

Thats all now. Thanks.

Greetings
