Hi,Â
I have a V812 and it is stuck on the boot up screen, which I am told is because it needs an update to newer software version (totally unusable currently). I have the Phoenix suite and have downloaded the update files. They are in rar format. When I try and find the files on Phoenix, it only looks for img files. How can you get it to find the downloaded files? Or convert to img files? This is not easy process and I am not pleased with this device, as this is already my second unit.Â
Any help would be most welcome. I am using a laptop with Vista if that makes any difference?
The firmware file is packed with rar archiver, you need to unpack it with winrar or a compatible program.
Winrar is available here:Â http://www.rarlab.com/
You'll then configure PhoenixSuit to flash the .img file you have extracted.
Cheers.

You need to decompress the RAR file but Vista does not have this facility built in.
Download 7zip from here, choose either the 32 bit or 64 bit version depending on your computer
This is a free utility to compress/decompress files.
how to use it
Put the .img file somewhere you can find easily.
Make sure you tablet is off. If you are not sure, hold the power button for about 10 secs to switch it off.
Do not connect your tablet yet, open Phoenixsuit, select the firmware icon (anchor) find the .img file you saved.
Then hold the home button and keep it pressed in, connect the USB cable to the computer/tablet. Then you may (or may not) have to press the power button on the tablet (maybe up to 10 short presses)
Phoenix suit should show a new dialog box 'Do Mandatory format'.
Choose 'yes'. This will wipe everything on the tablet.
let it update. It should take about 2-3 minutes.
Once complete, press the power button to restart if necessary.
The first boot after update will be longer.
It is all explained here.
Watch the video at the bottom of the page before you do it

Thanks. This worked but I had to choose to delete software on the tablet and then installed the new one. Got it working again, but issue is when I checked the Android version in setting, it still says 4.1.1, but software should have been 4.2. Does this mean it has not updated correct version? Don't want to get apps back etc, if this will crash again, or need updating again?
When I search for online update on the tablet it comes up with error, so cannot do update on tablet Itself? Assume it has to be a certain version before you can?

Actually looks like 4.1.1 is latest version, so will further updates be available on the tablet like on phones and other tablets, Or will I get this freezing again in the future and needing to plug into PC resulting in losing progress on apps/games?
Massive thanks for help Pingu!!

I think you need to to reflash with the latest ROM
The latest update is definitely Android 4.2.2
you can download the correct Kasty rooted version from here.
You need to make sure that you use the correct verison for you V812 as there are two versions depending on the hardware. You can check this on the back of the tablet - it should be in the serial number V1 or other...
for Hardware V1-V4
for Hardware V5

PS If you want to use the latest Onda chinese version, they can be found here

V5 http://pan.baidu.com/share/link?shareid=3526988912&uk=389436537

Sorry, I can't really give you an answer about the OTA updates.
The Kasty iversion s rooted and in English with all the Chinese apps removed.
If you flash the Onda version, you will need to change the language settings, make it rooted and remove unwanted apps yourself.
You could try Titanium backup for for apps but this does not always restore correctly for me in certain things.

Dear Admin,Â
Thank you kindly for the Onda A31 firmware v3.0 for my V812. I have had it installed for several months now and am very happy with the performance.
The problem I have is that while my daughter was playing with it she somehow booted the tablet into recovery mode and it now has the TWRP page as startup page. This would be okay but the size of the TWRP page is larger than the screen and I am unable to resize it. Therefore I cannot choose any options to reinstall or close the TWRP page. I tried to reboot via phoenixsuit but I am unable to reboot to original format (v3.0) because the TWRP page has a lock symbol which is only half visible because of size issues. How do I start the tablet in normal mode or reflash if this is not possible. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!
Thanks, Grant.
Noticed the post by Pingu and drained battery. Started charge until half full then did a reflash but not the total mandatory upgrade and it is sorted!!! Still have all my apps. Chose reboot on startup. Thanks Pingu.
