Flash with PhoenixSuite (tutorial)

After flashing the tablet, a Setup Wizard should display on first boot to configure your network, regional settings, etc… If the wizard does not appear, just disconnect your USB cable from the tablet, make a short press on the power button to turn off the screen. After the screen is turned of, press the power button for a short time again to power the tablet, the Setup wizard should appear.

Hi Admin,

First of thanks for all the great effort so far. I did the silliest mistake by using it for v701s. Arrgh.. :(

It's now showing just the A31 logo when booting up. Still I have hope that it could be rescued.

Admin, is it possible to create a root firmware for the v701s so that I could attempt a reflash?

Thanks a lot for considering this request. It will really help... Feel so stupid really doing it on the first day and spoiling such a tablet :(

You should find a stock firmware for your device on Onda website: http://www.onda.cn/

I may later build a custom firmware for the v701s, new firmwares are done in priority for devices where we have supporting users or high demand from the public.

Cheers.

Sorry for the noob question, but do i need to root my V711s before flashing this ROM, or will the ROM root the tablet during the flash process?

No need to root before, the tablet will be rooted after the firmware has been flashed.

wow, thanks for the swift response. May i ask another question: is there a linux version of phoenixsuit (i'm a kubuntu user) or is there an alternative method for flashing from a linux based pc? I've googled around but am a little unclear on this. In the past i've flashed various roms to my htc devices, but always using CWM or similar from within the device, and i'm not sure how to proceed here with this tablet (if it ever arrives from china......)

cheers!

There is no PhoenixSuit version for other systems than Windows.

I think a user on our forum got it to work on his Mac thru a PC emulator, that may work on your Linux system as well, you'll have to test. Still, it's probably best to get hold on a Windows PC to do the flashing.

Cheers.

Thanks, i'll try to borrow one. I can (and do occasionally) run vista in virtualbox, and though fine for the odd task, i'm not sure i'd trust it for flashing!

Thanks for all the advice

Just to update, whilst PhoenixSuit installed and ran in virtualbox under windows 7, i could not get the device to attach. So i did as suggested and installed through a regular pc, and all went swimmingly.

Now, to configure twrp....

many thanks!

..and can i just add, it's great to be able to r/w to the sd and have the usbhost functioning correctly without having to add to the permissions.xml!

and a final update...

can confirm that twrp installed on my clean system, and is working. I installed the version for the V711s made by Christian Troy over at slatedroid, and have successfully backed up and restarted the tablet!
