Onda has just released a major firmware update for their Onda V972 and V812 tablets based on the Allwinner A31 processor quad-core processor. This new firmware improves the device stability and allows overclocking from 1 GHz to 1.2 GHz. We have built a custom firmware based on version 2.0 updates for the Onda V972 and Onda V812 offering some system cleanup, fixes for a better application compatibility on Google Play Store and pre-installed SuperSU application (free version) to control root access.

Overclock Onda V972 or V812 at 1.2 GHz

The system runs at 1 GHz by default. With a rooted firmware, you can easily use Android applications such as the free AnTuTU CPU Master to overclock your device. Settings allow up to 1.44 GHz but such speeds are too high for the hardware, as we found stable operation up to 1.2 GHz.

Latest YouTube version doesn't work propertly on SDK 2.0 firmware, you should try version 4.2.16

There is voice input for the keyboard and Google translate. Which is what I used to figure out what you said. And Google uses a nice female voice for Italian.

At least for my v813 with 2.0 firmware. This should be identical for the v972.

Hi

I Updated to V2.0 using Live suit, OTA would not work. I had to do so twice. First time it was very unstable and many of the apps I normally use did not function properly either, lagging or freezing or just not responding at all, and the whole tablet freezing, needing to be rebooted often.
The tablet is now slowly functioning and often freezing.
Some video issues. The screen does a lot of flickering on some apps. Some apps using video streaming will not show a picture but the sound is functional ie TVCatchup (it worked perfectly before)

The sound function is not good. The maximum volume is very low. I have to use head phones to be able to hear any music or video clearly. The sound quality is poor. I have I lot of echoy, hissy, crackly in the back ground.

Now having lots of lagging/ freezing when using the internet now. Before update internet was much faster loading & more responsive. I often get the NOT RESPONDING prompt while browsing the web and often with off line apps too. Its painful to use the internet or Stumble or games that are on line freezing and long lags

I would like to remove some of the Chinese Apps as I am unable to read and understand them. The problem is they do not show in the Apps Setting menu. When I deleted one via file explore the tablet had problems. So I had to do a factory reset lol more work sorting out the tablet again

Ive not tried to mess around with this tab using Tweak Apps. Ie cleaners, speed it up apps and other tool kits. Tried to keep it as Onda made it and see what happens. The only utility App I use to move apps around and clear the cash is AppMgrIII.

Do you think I may benefit by back dateing to privous firmware or leave it and see what new firm ware comes?

I hope you do not think I'm a moaner. As on the whole I really liked this tablet at the beginning but with the update its painful, but I'm sure when the little issues are fixed it will be great again. This tablet is so much better than my old cloud nine tablet and may others I have tried out.

Thanks
Tim

Did you flash the firmware's posted in these forums? I don't have any of the Chinese apps when I used admin's firmware. Also, make sure to get the firmware for your hardware version.

As far an internet lags, I do see the same thing at times using the 2.0 firmware. But I can't make the consistently show up. Annoying, but not debilitating because I tend to not go online as often as most people.

Thanks arrsmith.
Do u think if I reupdate using firmware from acrtablet it would make much differences to the issues I'm having? I used firmware from Onda site. I also checked that my tablet was a V1 and downloaded the appropriate firmwear or would waiting for next updates be a safer bet
Any thoughts

As far as the internet lags. There are lots of people complaining about WiFi performance. Some are complaining about dropped signal. Others, like me, are seeing internet based apps hanging at certain points during the initial download. I don't think this will be fixed until we see a new firmware. If you are patient and wait out the "App has stopped responding ... wait or close" errors (just click wait) things usually start working. Until you need to get more data.

The only way to really get rid of the Chinese apps is to use the arctablet firmwares.

The "no video with working audio" problem is a graphics driver bug. Some apps are calling to the GPU and obviously failing. The latest YouTube and TVCatchup are two that people have mentioned in the forums. One fix for YouTube is to install an older version. You could also try an older TVCatchup. The real fix is going to be wait for a new firmware. Or the app developers work around it.

Sound is quiet, but it seems OK on my v813. I'm also not an audiophile, so I might not be the best to ask about sound quality.

Thanks arrasmith
In a nutshell its hang on and wait for the next updates. Think i can live with ignoring the chinese apps. I often make things worse if i mess around with OS and setting tweaks, then im factory resetting again lol. I read on the Onda sit that there may be a JB upgrade the end of April. If so this may include some bug fixes.
Here`s waiting lol
