Optical fibre is a transmission medium normally used in data networks.
It is a very thin filament of a transparent material made of glass, or plastic, through which light is emitted in pulse mode. The light emitter can be LED or laser.
One of the advantages it offers is that it allows a large amount of data to be sent, supports a long distance at very high speeds and, as it is light, is not affected by the electromagnetic interference of the environment.
