I finally got a nice WiFi antenna working in the X2 with better reception than the original antenna.
What I did was order a $3 replacement antenna for a Samsung Galaxy S3 on aliexpress. This has exactly the same little connector so you can directly plug it on the board.
The modification I made to this antenna was as follows. There's a little golden connector on the Samsung antenna which normally connects to something metal of the S3 body. What I did was solder a little piece of 1 mm thick sheet-copper to this connector, but made sure it would still fit where the original antenna is placed.
The reception still isn't as good as with most smartphones and somehow the upload speed is higher than the download speed, but that might be a ROM issue as well, I'm not sure.
FlowDesign,
Glad it's working better for you. I would do something similar myself, but to be honest I am not too eager to open up my X2 and for some reason my X2 actually has pretty good wifi reception, comparable to my Samsung phone. I remember you posting that you were going to try a PSP wireless antenna. Did the PSP antenna not work very well ? Just curious.

Yes, the antenna for the Samsung Galaxy S3 fits in the small connector, that is a MHF3 micro coaxial connector type.
Â
I have tried different things, and I only get perfect wifi (in this case even better than in other devices) taking the antenna cable out of the tablet body, and then connect a normal external antenna (a router antenna for example), using for that a cable with MHF3 to RP-SMA or SMAÂ connectors (depending on the connector of the antenna). The problem with this solution is that of course it is aesthetically ugly.
Â
What it is strange here is that in some units the wifi reception is good (as it should be) and in other devices is not. I tell this because I tried a FNF iFive X2 from a friend and wifi was really good without need of opening the tablet (with same 4.4.2 - v2.0.2 ROM). I think that there should be some difference in design inside that I cannot see, because of course I did not open up the tablet of my friend.Â
Â
If some of you, who have good wifi reception without doing any MOD, need to open the tablet for any other reason, please post some photos of your wifi antenna configuration and maybe we can see which diference we are missing...
Â
Regards and happy FNFiFive-ing!!

The replacement antenna for the Galaxy S3 is better than the PSP 1000 IF you solder some metal to it.
And the PSP 1000 has a connector that is too big, doesn't fit on the board.
I think it's really weird too that some have very good reception and speed and others like myself are struggling with it no matter what we try and do. Perhaps different WLAN chips are used on the motherboard???
I want to ask the developers/modders something.
Are you willing to help me port this build to Cube U39GT?
The both tablets have almost identical specs.
RK3188 CPU, Mali400MP4 GPU, 2G RAM, Wi-Fi, Bluethoot, HDMI etc. etc. Here are more details about the Cube U39GT hardware specs
- The Wi-Fi module is rockchip with bluetooth collaboration
- The touch screen uses module gt911.ko (Goodix Capacitive TouchScreen)
- The screen is 9" FHD (1920x1280) Samsung PLS with Screen Density is 240dpi
-The board by it self is U9GT3_V05 a standard RK30xxx board
-The Ram is HXB15H4G800BF–15H meaning it is DDR3 at 667 (1333) MHz with timings 9–9–9 with total of 2Gb (4 chips)
-Cameras - Rear 5Mpx, front 2Mpx.
-No compass, no light sensor, not other modules integrated
-Nand modules are Hynix with total of 16Gb (2 chips)

Was wondering whether anyone had a fix or workaround to the issue mentioned a couple of pages back regarding disappearing icons? Happens to me all the time, makes having the home page more frustrating than useful. I understand it may originate with the original firmware? Is it present in the Cyanogen build for the x2? Other firmware?Â
Thanks much for any information or advice provided!Â

Why did the original ROM only have 2 gig storage for apps?  I thought X2 has 16 gig storage.  I just picked up a Pipo P1.  Same thing.  Was it Android or these Chinese manufacturers?  Why my Samsung Note 2 and Note 3 seem to be able to install apps to the fullest available storage (32 gig)?

I'm using this firmware since it came available. Using my x2 daily and never seen this problem.
But, I'm using Nova Launcher, not the launcher that came with this firmware. Maybe that may help?

Thank you, Â I had not though about changing launchers. Are there specific ones that are compatible/popular with X2 devices? Where would be a good place to see/get different launchers? The one I have been using is called "Google Now Launcher" Â in my settings. Â I'll also look via me Google-fu, Â but thought I would start with my questions here.Â
Thanks much for the information.Â

Thank you very much, first time do something like that. Managed well, run fast. 4.2.2 The original had faltered many errors.Â
Two days passed.
So far so good.
Now I want to spend battery but something is not right. You spent all night and only 65% of the charge level. Such was not the original android. Can anyone a solution? The charger is 2.2 A.

Strange that there are no firmware hashes in the top post. For those wondering, here they are:
