I have two R3188 tablets, a Yuandao N80RK (8") and an iFive X2 (9") both flashed with their respective kasty ROMs. While the iFive is a much better looking machine and feels more solid than the Yuandao, the wifi performance of the Yuandao is heaps better than the iFive. I'm assuming that's because of a metal back to the iFive or poor antennas.
A question for the experts, there is not much one can do to improve the wifi performance is there?

pmerrill,
Normally, wifi antenna mods are among the easiest mods to do. I have done them on several Mini PC's.
However, this post by an X2 owner who had to replace his digitizer:
http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/75769-fnf-ifive-x2/page__view__findpost__p__1024026
reveals that the X2 is a real nightmare to disassemble.
His words:
I do NOT recommend servicing X2 if you can avoid it. I have taken apart some phones and tablets before and X2 is by far the most difficult to take apart. FNF uses liberal amounts of double-sided tape that essentially glues everything into place. Back cover will also crack easily when you peel it off. The glass cover is incredibly fragile, I do not think it's possible to remove it intact. Unless you're replacing the digitizer, leave the glass well enough alone.
On top of that, the wifi module is buried about as deeply as it possibly could be. After seeing the pics he posted of the disassembly, I would say that a wifi antenna mod on the X2 would be inadvisable, unless you were looking for a real challenge.
What kinds of issues are you having with wifi connections to your X2 ?
Are you losing your connection or getting slow transfer speed or showing a weak signal ?
or all of the above ?

I have been using an Ifive x2 for the last three months with no WiFi problems at all.
I have compared it to my iPad Mini and it performs as well.
I have just spent a couple of weeks in the Philippines and Kunmimg in China and again I had no problems with WiFi reception in public areas or hotels and even with the public WiFi at Bangkok airport!
To me it's one hell of a good tablet.

Yes, I personally have not had any problems with my iFive wifi at all. The tablet actually has the best wifi chipset in the business--a Broadcom B/G/N chipset. I can see the metal case having an effect on the range, but I have not had any connection problems myself.

Potentially good news: The latest released manufacturer's firmware (official version 1.2.0 published on 2013/12/26) mentions:
debug wifi stability of (translated from chinese)
as 1 of the 3 fixes included in the release.
Kasty already has released a custom ROM based on 1.2.0 here:
