Here is a rooted custom firmware for the FNF iFive X2 tablet based on official version 1.1.5

(ifiveX2_FW_422_V1.1.5_201307231500.rar)

Build information:

Linux Kernel: Linux 3.0.36+ #41 SMP PREEMPT Mon Jul 22 10:39:16 CST 2013

Android build: IFive/rk30sdk/rk30sdk:4.2.2/JDQ39/eng.root.20130723.145758:eng/opinions-on-teclast-p90hdst-keys

Custom firmware features:

  • root with latest SuperSU 1.41 (free version)
  • removed most Chinese and unnecessary applications
  • Google Play Store fixes so more applications are visible/compatible
  • updated busybox¬†v1.21.0.git (2012-11-29)
  • Unix like¬†init.d boot scripts support, more details on init.d scripts¬†here
  • increased space for applications (/data partition) to¬†4 GB

Update 2013/07/28:

  • Removed iFive video/music applications
  • Removed iFive launcher, replaced with Android 4.2 AOSP stock launcher from¬†here

Download: kasty-fnf_ifive_x2-422-115-rooted5.zip

Use Rockchip Batch Tool version 1.7 to flash the firmware, don't flash using the "sdcard" method.

Please report any problem with this firmware, I can't verify this custom firmware works as I don't have an iFive X2 to test it.

Hello

I am a new guy on this forum, co please forgive me my possible mistakes.

Yesterday I upgrade firmware from factory 1.0.9 to "FNF iFive X2 Android 4.2.2 custom rooted firmware based on v1.1.5 (2013/07/23)". After 2 hours of use my ifive x2 with above firmware I noticed when I'am using a back camera I hear strange sound, something like crackling noises. Before change of firmware everything was ok.

If I notice any strange actions / situations I'm going to inform about it.

Regards

Marek

Thanks so much for following close on the firmware updates.  I just flashed this new ROM.  My initial impression is SMOOTH.  I'll report back if everything works e.g. bluetooth, Google Now, Netflix etc.  Thanks again.

Compared to the last ROM that was based on Android 4.1.1, this one is smoother, more responsive and more robust.  Resuming a previously running app is working fine as far as I have tried.  It wasn't the case on the previous ROM with which resuming a video streaming app for example was often not possible.  4.2 on my Transformer Prime is also more robust over 4.1.

Antutu score is lower though, at 15000+ instead of 16000+.

Netflix, YouTube, Dropbox, Google Music, Google Now all work fine.  But Google Now can't start from the Home button (usually long pressing it starts Google Now).

I found missing Google Bookmarks.  It's not in the sync list under Account>Google settings.  Can that be added back.

I haven't had a chance to test Bluetooth.  I hope it works.

@Jrain9: Power off your tablet.  Hold down Volume Up (the volume rocker's right if you are holding the tablet with the screen facing you and the front camera is at the top of the screen) and plug in the USB cable.  Once your PC (assuming running Windows) knows a device is plugged in, you can let go on the volume rocker.

If it's the first time you plug in your tablet to the PC, you have to install the driver.  Go to Device Manager and look for the unknown device icon.  Upgrade the driver and select the appropriate driver directory (in the Rockchip_Batch_Tool_v1.7.zip under RockusbDriver), x64 for 64 bit OS, x86 for 32 bit OS - under each directory you'll find the OS such as Windows 7.

Once the driver is installed successfully, you can start RKBatchTool.exe.  In RKBatchTool, for FW Path, choose the image file you have unzipped (.img).  Then hit the Restore button.

All this is actually in the Rockchip Batch Tool tutorial.

I tested Bluetooth is working fine (it doesn't work on a couple other 4.2 custom ROMS e.g. the AOSP one)

Can you remove the iFive video player which is quite useless because it crashes on large video files (and possibly the iFive audio player)?  Also the Windows 8 tiles that occupy the main home page.  Thanks

Even if they aren't the best, the music and video players from the manufacturers usually have some added value (like floating player window on Cube's player)

For that reason I was not too sure about deleting these applications on the firmware and I can't check since I don't have an X2 myself. I am fine deleting the apps it if other users share your point of view, let's see what others think.

Cheers.

For me these tiles called ifive-skin are not useful too. It takes only space and looks like big icons, nothing else. Factory players do not bother me. Everyone could install and use players which prefer. Is it possible to set other city on that widget form lock screen ?

Hi Yall,

Thanks Admin for the 4.2.2  rooted FW 1.1.5. I just got my X2 this week, just as Google outs its New Nexus 7....sigh. I wish i had JB 4.3 and a chromecast! Anyways I want to share my impressions with the FNF X2 so far. I have been reluctant to purchase any of the cheap android devices online until this retina display came out, and it was on sale at newegg :) This is actually a great tablet. It has lots of annoyances to it, since it was made primarily for Chinese people only. There were no instructions in english, but it did include a usb wall plug for north america. If I was satisfied with Ifives skin and their version of android I would not be looking to flash it, but performance lacks in some areas. Multi tasking in the android framework doesnt seem to load very fast. Mutli tabs in the chrome browser with multi media ect loading can crash browser. Seems to work with most bluetooth devices but not all. Most all of the google services seem to work fine, skype and facebook youtube look great. The hardware is solid. Speakers and cameras work fine. Battery last on a full charge over 5-6hrs with constant use. All day if used intermittently. All in all a great tablet. Only tablets I would almost rather get it the new nexus 7 or the cheap walmart Hi-sense 7 pro.

I would like to chime in on the topic of the ifive-skin and the stock players. The skin/tiles drive me crazy. I can change this launcher. This is mainly the thing I wish would change. It just kind of deprives the tablet user some space on the home page, and is not very useful for people that do not read mandarin. I wonder since this OS is rooter if the firmware disable the home launcher. I tried to delete it once and it did not go away when I emptied the cache for the home launcher, it just erased all my other app icons. I really appreciate the dev on the X2, Admin!

All the best,

Update:

cosmetic - i do not like having the app tra always at the bottom. I liked the old layout better, with the app icon in the top right and the google search in the to left, better use of space. Now that this is rooted I may flash a new rom. like stock 1.1.5. We will see... bollocks.

kasty, thanks for the rom, I tried a couple others and yours seems the most compatible with apps, keep up the good work. Also, I don't mind the stock players / launcher being left in tact, it's easy enough to use other apps if needed. :)
