markymark,
Based on your description, you probably need to install the Rockchip USB drivers to your Windows system. Try following the instructions here:
https://www.miniand.com/wiki/Flashing+a+new+firmware+image+to+the+iFive+X2+Step+by+Step
Rockchip hasn't released specific Windows 8 drivers to my knowlege, but I would try the Win 7 drivers with the appropriate architecture (ie: x86 or x64) and see if Windows 8 will accept them. If Windows 8 will not accept the Win 7 drivers, then the XP system you mention should work.
Correction: I just checked the Batchtool 1.7 and it does include Windows 8 drivers.
Make sure you are connecting the tablet directly to a fully powered 500ma USB port on the system and not to a hub.
Which version of RK Batch tool are you using ? You need at least version 1.6 to properly recognise the RK3188 chip in your tablet.
Also, when you connect the tablet to the system the screen on the tablet should remain black and Windows should recognise a new device called Rockusb Device under a new class called Class for rockusb devices. Check Windows device manager after you connect the tablet. Make sure you don't have any Unknown devices in Windows device manager.
If you see this in device manager, the Windows driver is not correctly installed:
Do you have an iFive X2 or an iFive 2S HD ?
Good luck.

The stock ROMs are not rooted, so there is no effective way to backup the system.
However, the stock images are available on iFive's site, should you wish to restore the factory image:
iFive X2

iFive X3

i see, however when i check my "about tablet" it says that i got android version 4.2.2 and the build number is 1.1.7 which i could not find in the x2 library that you gave me and the reason i want to make a backup is because in case i encounter problems with my unit the seller might void my warranty if i put on a different version specially a rooted one.

I suspect that the 1.1.7 version rom on your X2 was an unpublished upgrade that was used to image production tablets, but was never posted as a downloadable update.img. If you ever needed to restore the tablet to stock, I would simply use 1.1.5. All of the stock images on iFive's site are unrooted and 1.1.5 was used on many production X2s (mine was 1.1.5). I seriously doubt your vendor or the manufacturer would have any issues with it and to be honest there is no way to backup your image without having root. In any event, I don't know of many X2 users that prefer the stock image over kasty's ROM, unless chinese is your primary language.
