I was basically pointing out that it was a new hardware revision and I have not had any of those problems on the original version.

Hi all,
FNF issued a new revision of this min 4S tablet. Its serial number starts with a "B". I have got one of those newer tablets. I "grepped" a dmesg log to see if other hardware could be found than what OMA extracted. Here is what I got:

does this help?

Yes, this is what i thought, this is a "new" kernel for the "new" B - Revision.
I don't know exactly the differences, but i would recommend you, that you flash the Stock Firmware with Erase MMC in Factory Tool first. But i guess, if the kernel from oma boot on the "old" rev, it will also boot on the "new" rev.

Because, according to your dmesg, there is no really differences...

Might, thanks for the info, but hold on for a second ....

First of all, what are the real differences between the old and the new revision of this tablet.

Well, as far as I can tell the only difference is an alternative Wifi chip. Old revision uses AP6335, which is basically a rebranded Broadcom BCM4339, whereas the new revision has an inbuilt AP6255, which is a rebranded BCM43455.

What manufactures sometimes like to do is that they change Wifi chips. Downstream this becomes a very common (driver) problem with Libreelec TV boxes based on Amlogic processors, for example.

I already reflashed the original firmware, unfortunately the problems remain the same, which is really shitty because the tablet keeps rebooting every now an then without any interaction from my side.
Relfashing the 1.0.6 kernel may solve this very problem, but will create a new one! My wifi won't work, which should be clear by now.

Of course, it would be very nice to test and run a potentially much more bug-free kernel from OMA, but that's gonna take some time I presume ....

[...]

I have to amend my previous post a bit ...

I can confirm my tablet also "swallows" 1.0.6 firmware and Wifi is working. So my previous statement about Wifi is wrong.

But my crashes appear more frequent ALSO with this 1.0.6 firmware, sooo .... this means I have some hardware failure and now I presume it might be the DRAM which might have broken cells.

@Might : Do you know a programm with which I'm able to test the tablet's DRAM?

I'm very frustrated because this inevitably means I have to send my tablet back to China, which is not only expensive from Germany but also takes AGES! YellCry

Slight setback. My laptop just died. Was a old piece of trash anyways. Screen ribbon cable was messed up anyways and showed off color and slightly garbled picture. Was fine for working on tablets and such. now its just backlit with no picture so I'm guessing the display cable finally broke to much. Possibly getting another laptop soon will let you know when I do.

Sorry for the trouble.

Try :A1 SD Bench: a few times.

also Check emmc.

Can you get the Info which NAND is Inside?

Try the App "emmc brickbug check"

Hello. Finally today came my tablet. Came revision b. No problem as the user above, did not notice, everything works well. Is it possible to detect through the log whether there are any changes in the drivers? Log attached

Not really a fundamental difference. Just the wifi chip.

[ 0.000000] Linux version 3.10.0 (root@five-server2) (gcc version 4.6.x-google 20120106 (prerelease) (GCC) ) #2 SMP PREEMPT Fri May 19 09:25:27 CST 2017

[ 0.588368] rk32-mipi ff960000.mipi: rk mipi_dsi probe success!

[ 21.465424] Current WiFi chip is AP6255.

No more logs. However, take your time to play around with your new toy as is 😉

Yeah, that's an idea. Thanks!

Hmm, I think I'm going to issue an RMA. I have the impression I don't need any more tests. Since the segmentation faults which show up in the dmesg log always occur at pretty the same address I'm more or less convinced that it's some DRAM failure.

Once I have got a replacement one, I chime in here again.

Thanks all for your help and cooperation, appreciate it!
