Here is a rooted custom firmware for the FNF iFive mini2 tablet based on official version 1.3.4

(ifive-MINI-2_FW_411_V1.3.4.rar)

Build information:

Linux Kernel: Linux version 3.0.8+ (root@five-server) (gcc version 4.4.3 (GCC) ) #142 SMP PREEMPT Tue Mar 12 11:29:57 CST 2013

Android build: IFive/rk30sdk/rk30sdk:4.1.1/JRO03H/ifive.20130114.155911:eng/ifive-keys

Custom firmware features:

  • root with latest SuperSU 1.30 (free version)
  • removed most Chinese and unnecessary applications
  • increased space for application (/data partition) to 2 Gb
  • Google Play Store fixes so more applications are visible/compatible
  • updated busybox v1.21.0.git (2012-11-29)
  • Unix like init.d boot scripts support, more details on init.d scripts here
  • Android 4.2 AOSP stock launcher from here, thanks mad86
  • hopefully fixed boot logo issue (scrambled picture)

Download: kasty-fnf_ifive_mini2-411-134-rooted4.zip

Use Rockchip Batch Tool version 1.5 to flash the firmware, don't flash using the "sdcard" method.

Please report any problem with this firmware, I can't verify this custom firmware works as I don't have an iFive mini2 to test it.

Hello,

What do you mean by flash in stock recovery ?

This custom firmware isn't tested yet, at least nobody gave feedback on it.

Cheers.

I have test this firmware. and the launcher is so cool. it feels so much faster than the stock. I have tried many firmware, and I think this is the best so far for a non chinese person. all the other firmware that I have tried is full of irritating chinese apps. I just hope that a firmware willl be made to improve the wifi stability of ifive mini 2 :) ) I'm very dissapointed by the wifi stablity in the stock firmware.

Can anyone please tell me how to get into recovery for this device so I can flash via Rockchip batch tool? I have tried volume + & power, volume - & power, menu & power. All I get for the volume key and power is the initial logo, and then it turns off. It's like the stock recovery isn't even working :(

Update: I managed to work it out. Power device off, hold down the menu button, then connect USB cable from PC.

Custom ROM flashed, and so far it seems good. Thanks!

@ jbjamison23 : i don't think this firmware improve wifi because it make with original firmware. But it support init.d so you can find script which could improve this and if you want try to modify your wifi network on wifi channel diffusion and level encryption key. Maybe there is an conflict here.

@markfnz : it flash with rkbatchtool like this french tutorial : http://www.tablette-chinoise.net/t919-tuto-comment-flasher-sa-ifive-ou-autre-tablette-a-base-de-rockchip

@ admin : i don't know if you agree of external link of my tutorial. If you have one you can modify my link to yours ;)

This method worked for me

http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/46929-rooting-rk3066-tablets-the-right-way/

The latest version of the script is V30 though, search for "Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v30.zip"

If not the custom ROM posted at the top of this topic is already rooted, so you can try flashing that. You will need this tool though:

http://www.arctablet.com/blog/archos-tablet/flashing-your-rockchip-3066-based-tablet-rockchip-batch-tool-1-5/

To put your Mini 2 into recovery for flashing, run the flash tool, disconnect USB from PC, power off tablet, hold down menu button on the top, then plug in USB while still holding down menu button. The flash tool should then see the tablet. Flash as per the instructions above

You're welcome.

To get into recovery to use the flash tool, do the following:

- Disconnect all cables

- Power off tablet

- Hold down the menu button (next to the volume buttons)

- While still holding down the menu button, connect the USB cable between your table and PC

- Keep holding down the button until you hear Windows add a new device

- You will either be prompted to install the drivers, or go into Device Manager to install the rockusb.sys driver which is included in the "Rockusbdriver" directory in the Flash tool zip file

- You should now see the RK30 device in device manager, and can run up the RKBatchTool.exe. You should see a green box with "1" in connected devices

- Follow the instructions to flash the tablet. I used the "restore" button as it's cleaner, but it will reset all data

I just tried this again to make sure, and discovered that unless you have the right USB cable, Windows doesn't recognise the device properly. If you get this, try a different cable.

Good luck! The custom ROM is worth it!
