Hello Oma. I don't think the NAND is defective, as I can write to it. Also, I finally had success flashing  the Modell wifi fix by installing ver. 6.0.3.1 of CWM. But although it told me it had completed flashing the fix, the wifi still turns off after reboot. I tried flashing the revised parameter file you gave me (thank you!) with Android Tool 2.1; it too had no effect. To recap, here is what we do know!:

* Wi-fi works if the DATA partition is wiped.

* Wi-fi stops working if the device is rebooted**.

**(After flashing the ROM, I went into wi-fi to turn it on, then rebooted right away, without changing anything on or in the configuration of the system. Wi-fi stops working on reboot! So it does not appear to be due to any configuration changes).

If indeed it is the kernel that is key, I'm wondering if there is another kernel that might be more compatible with this ROM and my device....

Well, that is what I meant. Android writes the footprint of the wifi onto your NAND. After reboot Android can't read the footprint. Wiping the NAND let start generating the footprint.

I've wiped the NAND many, many times in my many attempts to fix this. But I did it again. I did "erase IDB". (Which I later formatted in Android). In CWM 6.0.3.1, I also formatted; system, cache, boot, kernel, data. (I kept the newer v.6.0.3.1 recovery because it flashes the Modell fix without error. Although I also tried all of this with the older CWM 4.x version, but without flashing the wifi fix). I flashed the revised parameter file you uploaded. I flashed my original kernel. I installed the Modell wifi fix once again. I wiped data, cache, and dalvik. And of course, the wifi worked when I first booted into the system.

Then it stopped working once I rebooted. Maybe I should just hope the battery never runs out? :-)

Bucky.

BTW, I also tried your ROM "Oma_RK3026_Chuwi_V17pro_JB_4.2.2_v1.0.7" with the MT7601 kernel fix named "RK3026_kernel_3036_v17pro_1stgen_chuwi". I was surprised that it booted up. I was very curious to know whether that kernel would fix the wifi, but the system was so extremely unresponsive to touch, I could never quite make it into the settings screen to find out!

Restore the stock firmware and make use of your warranty.

Well I don't know anyone who knows more about these Rockcheap tablets than you. So if you think there's nothing to be done, there's nothing to be done! I'm exhausted myself, trying different ROMs and kernels, risking a bricking every time, and there is so little to be found, that might be compatible.

But warranty is not an option. It is my daughter's tablet (bought for her children), and they tried to return it to Walmart after realizing how awful it was.... Walmart wouldn't even take it back! I think they said there was a scratch on the screen. I know the company won't honor a warranty, because when i went on their site... although they still appear to be making devices, there is no mention of tablets anywhere! They choose to pretend they never made tablets....

Android has built-in ethernet. I don't know if this tablet will support it, but I may just try it by getting an ethernet-to-USB adapter, and it may be better than nothing. If it works, at least it gives them a relatively easy way to put new applications on the device. Thank you tremendously for your time and effort, Oma. I find your ROMs are more useful and exciting on these devices, than ROMs that are made for devices that are already good!
