Admin introduction and notes:

We have received a few requests from users willing to downgrade their firmware from Android 4.4 KitKat to earlier system versions on devices using a Rockchip processor.

The problem is the regular flashing procedure with Rockchip Batch Tool can't be used as there are some small changes in KitKat system (like second generation Rockchip loader) that make it incompatible with firmwares for earlier Android versions. The solution is to first downgrade the Rockchip loader then you should be able to flash the firmware.

I am posting below the procedure that was documented by Oma, thanks a lot to him for that. I will try to complete this procedure later and maybe post a video.

Flashing back an 1st generation loader (v1.24) will lead to a fail of flashing JB firmware (while checking modus).

The only way to recover this is to download the loader and erase IDB Blocks with RK DevelopTool. After that the tab will be in mask-rom modus. Now one can flash JB firmware with RKAndroid- or RKBatch-Tool.

Please follow each 5 steps in sequence as shown in the picture to properly replace the Rockchip loader.

We recommend to flash the bootloader corresponding to the older firmware you want to install. You should find the right bootloader for your device in our Rockchip bootloader collection.

For example, RK3188Loader(L)_V1.24.bin is recommended loader for RK3188 based tablets flashing back Android 4.3 or earlier.

Please make sure you are flashing the proper bootloader for your device, failure to do so may brick your device !

DarthJabba,

The link works fine here but I see OMA edited the article so he may have fixed the problem.

Can you confirm it's OK for you ?

Cheers.

I tried this, but with no luck at all.

I muddled through with my heart in my mouth and ended up with an amalgam of the various answers, and much to my surprise I have......

No not a paperweight, but a fully functional u30gt2. I can't tell you how happy and relieved I am.... I can't wait to try 4.4 again but I think I will wait till its a little better this time.

Alls well that ends wellCool

Sorry, I didn't understand it well.

It's necessary to click "Switch" before follow the steps explained?

The graphic in post #1 does not say clicking Switch button is required as first steps.

I don't have my tablet with me to check, the important step is to have the tablet in flash modus before step 2. Either use your usual method (like a paper clip in the reset pinhole, volume and hardware function key combination, ...), using the Switch button should work as well.

Cheers.

I just flashed my iFive 3 (retina display) with 4.4.2 to 4.2.2 because of the problems with WiFi on the 4.4.2 version.

Everything works fine but the UI seems a bit bigger than the screen so some icons are half of the screen.

But for now it seems OK.

I know this issue has been closed for some time,

but is it possible to go from gen2 loader OS4.4.4 to gen1 loader OS4.2.2??

I am talking about the almost new CEROS REVOLUTION with gen2 loader (old design) with OS4.4.4. I tried to do this and get a Black screen on boot, nothing else (i can connect with loader).

The new tab has loader v2.19!

Thanks
