zdr, Â it actually depends upon what channels are surrounding your tablet. Where I live, when I scan wifi systems around my house using wifi analyzer app, I found that I had 2 wifi systems operating on channel 3, 4 wifi systems on channel 6 and 1 wifi system operating on channel 9. So, I setup my wifi on channel 10 after the fix. I have no problem so far. Remember this fix will maximize the capabilites of this antenna and won't increase its capabilities. I am happy that it's working better than before for you as well.Â

I must admit to being sceptical as to a piece of tape making so much difference but it has increase my WiFi speeds by 5x (on SpeedTest I was getting 2Mbps download speed in the furtherest room from the router and am now getting 11Mbps - I get nearly 19Mbps next to the router). Â Also I am at -30db where I was between -50db to -70db so the signal is nice and strong. Â Thank you for the tip.
What are people using to replace the metal strip?
If you neet to buy a screewdriver you need to buy T2 for the metal strip as T3 will not fit (atleast on my cube u30gt2).
I added the tape and wifi signal improved alot, metal was making contact with the wifi antenna.
I did put the metal strip back on the tablet and found wifi not as good as without metal strip but desided to keep the metal strip on as wifi was good enough anywhere in the house with metal strip on.
If wifi is causing problems in the future I will remove the metal strip but currently I feel wifi is working good enough with the metal strip on.
T2 screewdriver is needed to remove the metal strip, T3 will not fit!

I use a T3 screewdriver, to remove the metal strip and it is a perfect fit. Â Â I think T2 is too small.Â

Dear All
I bought T3 and T2 and:
 - for external screw T2 fit while T3 not.
 - for internal screw (under the metal strip or for the mettalic bezel), it is not a Torx but a very small cross-head
=> maybe each cube has a different assembly.....
By the way, i replaced the antenna by an antenna bought on Ebay (Hitachi....) and the signal was worst
Then i put back the original antenna:
 - with Kapton above and below not to have short circuit with the mettalic bezel
 - with a part of the mettalic bezel cut (just under the antenna)
 - with the conductive tape between the antenna (on the shield side) and the metallic bezel of the LCD
 - i put back the metal strip arround the cube
=> It improves a little the signal (Wifi analyzer + SpeedTest.net)
Regards

Hi Guys,
So I bought this tablet last year, had the WIFI issue like many of you, tried practically ALL solutions given out (replaced antenna, remove metal strips, put tapes on etc etc), NOTHING worked, so I went out and bought a  TF700 which did its magic for me.
But, I recently sold the TF700 and since my U30gt2 has been collecting dust and I didn't want to throw it out without trying some extreme measures to fix the WIFI (since if it didnt work it was trash anyway), I'm happy to tell you that using unconventional but easy method, I had completely fixed the WIFI issue on the tablet.
I can stream HD videos seamlessly without lag and I cant believe how stupid manufacturers were to design tablet this way - but this is really a VERY simple solution and a common sense if you actually think about it.
There is few things you need to do this - A torx screw (for obvious reason), mini screw driver, a pair of scissors, some strong tapes ( can be scotch tapes too I suppose)
Â
I'll explain the steps I took to fix this WIFI issue permanently.
Â
1. Open up the tablet with screws - the metal strip covering the tablet, remove it and trash it. You will not need this and it only serves to interfere with WIFI signal, even when using below solution.
2. Pop up the hard plastic cover at the back, you will now see batteries and the antenna
3. Remove the screws on the hard iron frame holding everything, such as battery and the CPU - no need to remove all, just 3 of them (leave one at the bottom right inact so it doesnt completely lose hold)
4. You will see that your Antenna wire is travelling all the way from the mainboard to make it to its designated spot, which is to the left through top of the tablet inside the iron frame. What you need to do is to CUT DOWN the parts of iron frame thats touching the antenna wire using pair of your scissors, ALL the way to the front facing camera so that your Antenna wire is NOT TOUCHED by the iron frame object!!! I know this sounds very crude and insane, but trust me on this!!! You will need to apply some strong force to cut it down with scissors since, well, it is iron.
5. With the iron frame on top part of tablet gone, you will see the Antenna wire is now freely loose - fixate it using tape of any sort, place the antenna back on its designated slot, and now turn on your tablet (without covering back anything - Try running the speedtest.net app - you will now see that your WIFI is functioning as intended with full speed!
6. Close up the tablet and now you have a fully functioning U30GT2!
Â
Please keep in mind I did this as a last resort - I did not care whether to lose this tablet or not, in a mindset where if this method did not work I would throw it away. Turns out that its really the hard iron plate that is interfering with the signal - I took this queue by looking at the TF700, where the TOP part of the tablet is 100% plastic which means the signal does not get interrupted. I merely tried to make the U30GT2 the same way and it really literally fixed the issue.
Now I'm so happy to get this finally working, it actually performs better than my old TF700 and I just wanted to share this with everyone.
Â
Hope it works for you!

Hi rickytan85 ,
this sounds so very good. maybe you could send photos as explanation for this?

Hi,
Unfortunately that won't be possible as in the process of opening & closing the tablet countless times (from before this solution - trying to fix antenna and the likes), the torx screw have worn out and I cant screw it out again unless I force it. Â I would love to, to show my achievement and brag about it, but this actually saddens me.
So far, as an update, tablet is functioning at its 100% - ever since fixing WiFi, I've no issue whatsoever with this tablet and am very happy to now be able to use it on daily basis.
