Hi U30GT2 Owners,

I just felt like opening this thread to share (sadly) any experiences of any purchases of this nice tablet where any of us users/buyers end up with a defective / faulty / DOA (Dead-On-Arrival) / "works fine - then battery will not charge"-fault situations.

I'll start off by quoting one of our members from the 4.2.2 beta ROM thread who had thought the charging issue might have been related to his firmware version, but has since re-flashed back to a previous version and found the "failure to charge the battery" issue has persisted.

robiom:

"I have just gone to all the hassle of reflashing 1.05 as I thought the problem with my battery life was the 4.2.2 firmware.

WRONG!!!

The battery life is exactly the same so my guess is the battery itself is faulty which is a real pain as I purchased this from McBub in central China and I don't want to return it for repair or replacement.

I will have to contact them and see what options they can give me. I am fully capable of changing the battery but I don't want to invalidate the warranty, (although that has probably been done with unofficial firmware lol).

to be continued……..

Rob"

END QUOTE

As for my own story:

1. I purchased from AliExpress (for it's Buyer Protection and Mediation/Dispute Resolution Features) by Alibaba in China.

2. The shop that sold me the U30GT2 is called http://www.coolmz.com / Shenzhen M&Z Tablet pc Supplier

3. Shop has 100% Good Feedback, with over 30+ satisfied customers

4. I had good pre-sales communication with the shop representative (and have had good communication throughout the troubleshooting, defect, return shipping, promise of warranty replacement stages of this whole fiasco), but I digress.

5. I receive my tablet via DHL.

6. It has a tiny bit of power when i receive it, it seem to work well. but low power almost immediately.

7. Go charge it with included DC pin to wall socket (USA) charger for 2~3 hours.

8. Won't power on. Huh, strange.

9. Time for dinner, so, leave it charging until bedtime, ~3-4 more hours, check before go to bed, no power on. Huh, that's strange, and troubling.

10. Leave it charging ALL NIGHT LONG.

11. Wake up in the morning. Nothing. No power on. Try to plug in USB cable via PC and maybe that will work. Maybe DC pin charging subsystem is defective? But maybe USB will work? I hope? No. Nothing.

12. Haggle with Representative from shop over troubleshooting for ~  3-5 days before she believes me that the tablet is defective, and she agrees to allow it to be sent BACK TO CHINA for warranty replacement. (sigh) USPS $59.95USD down the drain.

13. Waiting for confirmation that the tablet is received back (scheduled by end of next week according to USPS, oh get this NO TRACKING NUMBER, joy! <sarcasm>) to China, so replacement unit will be sent back to me by DHL.

14. so... sadly... $280USD tablet (with $30USD expedited 3-5 day DHL shipping) (~$300USD) ends up costing ~$360USD. OUCH.

15. This replacement unit I hope functions correctly, or, well, I think I will be sad.

16. This concludes my sad story (ordeal) for now.

Share yours too,

though, I hope nobody else has a sad story to share! :-)

Hi,

Mine has a little defect, there's a 2cm vertical zone where the touchscreen isn't working at 1cm of the left edge, this is a common defect on capacitive touchscreens, a bit pissed off at first but the tablet is still useable at least, no word from cube after trying to contact Ivan though... not that i was expecting good customer service from a chinese company.

By the way did you had a plug adapter with it ? Maybe this one's dead (that was the case for me, i used a power tester to determine it), or the DC charger itself is defective, anyway, the tablet is not using USB power to charge.

Cheers~

Hi,

No, I didn't have a power tester to check the DC charger or the DC pin on the tablet itself. Good to know that the tablet does NOT use USB at all to charge.

Cheers to you as well!

From our knowledge NO ROCKCHIP tablets are using the usb ports to charge, they have a separate connector.

Bit the bullet and opened the tablet, one of the batteries is definitely faulty, it has swelled up noticeably. I will just buy another one and fit it. It will be a lot cheaper than sending it back!

Ordered some replacement batteries today. Getting some 8000mAH ones instead of the 7200mAH which should give me a little better battery life.

Hopefully they will arrive soon!

On a side note, the tablet is very well made and has a sturdy metal chassis inside which gives it strength and rigidity. Much better than my Sanei N10 IM6Q Quad core.

Hi,

Similar story to original poster here:

1) u30gt2 has arrived 2 days ago - including 12V 2A AC to DC adapter and US to EU plug converter

2) The tablet has an initial charge of 54 % and appears fullly functionnal (WiFi ok by the way)

3) I plug the AC converter to the socket but no charge occurs... strange, I blame a loose connection (I suspect the US to EU plug) and forget about it until end of the day. The battery seems to discharge at a normal throughout the day as I surf the web, watch movies, listen to music. nothing abnormal yet.

4) After some times I realize that either the DC converter is faulty or I have an issue with the battery charging on the device. I try the DC adapter in different wall sockets, make sure that all moving bits are correctly positionned etc...

5) I source an equivalent part (DC adapter 12V and 2+ A) but after plugin in to the DC socket, even though android battery status reports 'Charging' - the battery level remains at 2%. Since then, my brand new u30gt2 is totally unpowered and waiting for my next move.

Is the non charging battery a common issue ?

How would my device comes with a pre-loaded battery and fail to reload at all (I'm not familiar with typical battery issues)

Is there a strict requirement on the current output being exactly 2A ? I guess more that 12V is not an option but I source more easily sub 2A adapters... Will it recharge more slowly or wouldnt recharge at all ?

Hi,

To add to my story/epic/ordeal;

Here is the latest:

1. The AliExpress seller has received my returned tablet, and sends me a message and is apparently unhappy.

2. Mind you, when _I_ received the tablet, it would NOT power on, NOR would it charge, either. So, for me, I never got to see the tablet powered on. Not once. Never thought to try getting/buying another power adapter/plug to try charging it. I thought the tablet DOA (Dead-On-Arrival).

3. The seller is apparently unhappy, as I mentioned, stating in their message that there is no problem/defect with the tablet, that it charges within 10 minutes, and powers on, and then wants to know why _I_ deleted some random music and video files that I guess come stock on the device.

4. OMG. Wait. WHAT?!?!

5. Remember, the tablet NEVER powered on  when it arrived, never charged when I had it, and didn't take a charge so I sent it all the way back to the seller in China. Wow.

6. I hope this doesn't become one of those nightmare stories people talk about. I really hope I don't have to find out how good/bad AliExpress's Buyer Protection is, or how good my Credit Card company is at protecting me if this transaction goes sour and the seller decides to give me a problem about my warranty. I'll keep my fingers crossed in the meantime.

I have also had problems with my tablet and I have returned it for warranty.

From the start I have experienced problems with the touch screen. Especially when charging, it seemed fake touch inputs were detected. See the example video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bi73sPTbGG8

The battery life seem to become less and less. Until I could use my tablet less than 30 minutes playing a simple game.

Also the LCD appeared to be leaking (with an oily like stain on the screen), from what appears to be pressure from the back (from within). Very recently a small gap appeared along the edge making evident some pressure was on the back of the screen.

I have returned it to the seller, he will return it to the Cube factory for "checking". So I hope some good can still come out of this.

@Dutchman, that is definitely a lithium ion battery failing and when they fail they expand.

Probably all the problems are related to that one thing. Batteries are the weak link in all tablets from China as their quality control is less than perfect.

Share yours too,

though, I hope nobody else has a sad story to share! :-)

Unluckily you weren't the only one: I have a quite similar situation.

I bought mine directly from http://www.cube-stores.com in hope of a better and/or faster client management.

My U30GT2 simply doesn't work on battery power, even with full charged battery; it works only with the wall charger attached (that, by the way, charges the battery!). It's like no one connected the power module of the tablet to the battery. It seems that in Cube factories they have serious problem with the power module...

After a day of tests I contacted the... how can I call it... support?!? Well, let's call it support, just for semplicity. It took me days to convince them my tablet was a DOA item (I sent them a video too) and tell me what to do to send it back for repairs/substitution. They gave me no RMA to track the status, even if it's stated in their warranty page (hey, has anyone noted it's not text but a GIF?!?).

After seven day since they received the package they kindly told me they receiveed it and that I have to wait up to 15 working days before the return.

In the meantime I tried to obtain infos about shipment refund (dam it! It's 50‚ā¨/70$ from Italy!) but it took about 13 emails before they told me to send them a proof of the expense. Half a hour ago, by the way.

I received the tablet 30th of April, sent it back 7th of May and the next Friday ends the repair time. It will take about two months altogether to have the tablet back and working. I hope.

The lessons I learned:

- never buy a low level brand online, it's risky! Surprised

- never buy from a pure chinese brand, on chinese territory with chinese support, it's more risky! Yell

I don't blame the quality of the (working!) product: I tried it (with wall charger attached!) and it was cool, fast and satisfying for a cheap tablet. I wish I could buy it from a local shop, it would be easier!

The lessons I learnt;

1. Always buy Chinese brands that have been well reviewed by users;

2. Always buy from ebay, from a seller that has at least 99.5% positive feedback (100% is better);

3. Always pay by PayPal

#2 and #3 give you the protection of the ebay system, and of PayPal. No ebay seller wants negative feedback, and, if the product is defective, you have the protection of ebay and PayPal. Most sellers will quickly come up with a sensible solution once you trigger the complaints system.

I used PayPal and that's, at least, a good protection in case cube-stores doesn't send me back the tablet (I read a story about it!).

Well Everyone,

Last week I finally received my replacement tablet, and I haven't wanted to post anything until I was sure about it.

I'm glad to be able to say:

1. It turns on!

2. It charges!

3. It doesn't need to stay plugged in (like some of you with defective units); I can detach mine when the battery is charged and roam around freely!

4. WiFi is decent at my house, but I have a good router (last home had some crappy aluminum wire in the walls so a more powerful router was purchased.) I am getting 4 bars on my WiFi, though.

5. The tablet has been able to recharge more than once and has held its charge.

So now I can breathe a sigh of relief and consider it "functional" I suppose.

(BTW, the tablet that was defective was warranty-exchanged for a new unit with another serial number for the record).
