I'd also be interested in anyone's thoughts re: whether the device responsiveness still hits a wall when apps are competing to access Wi-Fi. I wouldn't have thought that this would be improved, but it could be interesting to see if KitKat brings anything to the game.

To really test it, you'd need to put some apps on after the ROM that hammer Wi-Fi, like Facebook, Google+, Amazon apps, etc.

I haven't made the jump to KitKat yet (for which I'm quite thankful after reading some of the horror stories on this thread).

Re: the battery consumption of 17% in 10 hours: That's nearly as good as 4.2.2 and certainly miles better that the previous KitKat betas. Could someone enlighten me as to why the 3 telephony apks couldn't be removed from the ROM when it's built? That way we wouldn't have to do this manually after.

Last one (promise!) - I want to get Sky Go working on this tablet. I installed it and the only thing it was complaining about was that the tablet was rooted. RootCloak doesn't (and probably never will) work on Sky Go, so does anyone know how I would go about removing Root access to see if it works? Or has anyone tried Sky Go on this tablet with a stock (unrooted) ROM?

Thanks!Laugh

Uhmm.. battery consumption in stand by is not great... it has sucked 17% in 10 hours... However, I just realized that phone radio is active as usual :( ... need to root it to remove it...

I can make a CWM package to remove the radio stuff.

1. The kernel works with the previous Kasty release, and overclocks just as well.
2. I have produced a DarthJabba CWM package for it, and I have tried to root it. However, I don't yet have the courage to try my new masterpiece, because it is my first attempt to work straight from the stock ROM ...

Count me in http://www.arctablet.com/blog/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif
What could go wrong if I make CWM backup before flashing it? Maybe something I'm not aware of...?
Can you upload it somewhere, and attach a changelog to it (OC frequencies, space for apps, default/chinese apps added/removed, etc)? And what do you mean by "tried to root it"? Did it failed, or does it have to be flashed first to be confirmed?

It has to be flashed first to confirm that it is rooted. What could go wrong? Who knows? Assuming the CWM backup fails to restore? I've got the tablet working the way I want it now, and I am a bit loathe to start all over again. I will do it eventually - but I need to psyche myself up for it.Wink

I'll upload once I've tried it and have made sure that it doesn't fry up the tablet, or anything like that.

twart:

The increase of responsiveness running Apps when tablet is updating/syncing via WIFI is basically the major improvement on Kit Kat ROMS. In beta 1, this increase of responsiveness seemed to come at the cost of UI smoothness. In this beta, UI smoothness has increased greatly and tablet is still responsive when updating/syncing or using WIFI in general.

Regarding the telephony apk's: I also don't know why are they being included... I also thought sometimes that their use of battery could actually not real... but battery stats keeps on reporting battery consumption due to cell radio and battery consumption in Stand by confirms this... they are removed easiliy enough though.... as long as the ROM is rooted...

With the 4.2.2 android, I removed the phone apps, and it resulted, that I was not able to add new users. Or, when I did a factory reset, I was not able to add my account, because something stopped working.

I know the following in not entirely the same thing, but it's a proof that removing system apps is not so harmless. Something similar happened to me on KitKat when I removed Email.apk, so later after putting it back where it belongs, I wasn't able to configure my POP3 email account again, even after numerous reboots. And I still can't do it to this date. So, remove system apps only if you're absolutely sure it's not of any use on your device, or at least make a full backup so you can safely revert back if something breaks.

No major issues with V3.0 here so far. It's ok.

3D graphics is also much smoother on V3.0 compared to previous 4.4.2s. The Room 2 game was running with low FPS before, now it is fluent. I'd say aliasing artefacts are more apparent though, looks like anti-aliasing is not enabled or not working well. No big deal, smoothness wins.

Audio volume and quality seems to be lower than before. Maybe it's just me and my speaker. I pulled tablet out of leather case after several months to found out the back plastic part is somewhat bent, not entirely flat anymore (huh). It may affect quality of speaker output. Screen is flat as before, unaffected.

What bothers me most is that since moment of flashing the very first 4.4.2 beta, my battery started acting funny. It charges from 3% to 100% way too fast in like 2 hours and discharges in similar time. That's terrible. Leaving tablet on charger overnight doesn't make a difference. Taking several full discharge-charge cycles doesn't solve the problem either. Hmm. It's hard to believe battery would simply degrade that much out of blue. The last thing to do is battery calibration incl. removal of battery stats. That can't be done on unrooted system, so I am locked out for the moment.

I think there was a problem with the BETA 2 that was causing the tablet to scrap the battery when charging.

Mine has only 3 hours of autonomy.

I ordered new batteries for 20$ on Aliexpress.

By the way, if you want to have a deal on AliExpress… Don’t buy, just add the items to your wish list and you will receive an email the following day saying that the items on your list are on sale…  J

If there is users interest (and if it helps DarthJabba) I don't mind building a rooted Kasty firmware based on that new U30GT 2 V3.0 201... 4.4系统.rar update, but I'd expect some feedback from testers on the stock firmware making sure it's worth the work.

Cheers.

Well, my attempt to root the ROM did not succeed, so yes, it would be helpful to have a Kasty ROM! :-)

First, thanks to both of you. I think this beta3 is of much better quality than previous beta releases, so in my opinion it deserves additional polishing and tweaking. Hoping you can achieve that together. Keep up the great work you're doing.

You can try Kingo Android root...  I was able to root many devices/ROMs with that.  Including all previous releases from Cube.

Whatever is over 4500 (or 9000) is fake lipo technology goes on weight and size I've bought the 6000 mah ones (12000) and they are less than 4000 probably consider that the battery is a 2s lipo so made of 2cells in series and their configuration increase voltage not mah
