I did the update yesterday.  The update worked but battery drain is still there.  32% of battery used during idle. It is smooth and doesn't hang. I hope you can find a fix for this.

Okay, I see it now. left it unplugged while going to a meeting, no music, no wifi, just thehome screen in saving mode, it was  at 72%, meeting lasted about 1 1/2hrs, came back battery was at 42%. Am a believer! Not that I doubted, just had not seen it since I mostly keep mine plugged in.

Darth any way to flash your rom without loosing the phone function?

No. It is Phone.apk (and supporting files) draining the battery, so there is no chance of me not removing them until that problem (probably a kernel issue, or a programming issue with Phone.apk itself) is resolved.

If you really must have those files, then copy them from /system/app to your sdcard; and then after installing my mod, you can copy them back from your sdcard to /system/app and then reboot the tablet.

Hmm Darth, newbi here, dont know which files I would need to copy out to the internal card you mean? Then copy back? Don't know how I would do that, if am up to that level of fiddling with that, I'm game for it thought. If any one can perhaps help me out here as time permits I would be happy to pm my email for instruction on this. If you folks can't I understand, I too have aday job. :-) But thanks Darth.

Connect the tablet to your PC with a USB cable. The PC will recognise that a USB device has been connected, and will install the drivers (if not already installed). The device will be ready as a new drive on the PC. Copy the files to the new drive, eject the USB drive ...

Hi @DarthJabba

Great work. I would always prefer the update.zip format. The only thing I would change are some of the apps. I have just started using 360 Mobile Security for my antivirus and it is rated one of the best, very pleased.

Is it free? I can only include free apps if I release any mod.

Edit: I've just had a look at it. It seems quite good - but I don't like the little "%" icon it places on my desktop.

Thanks, I had started looking for them last night but I was not sure, definately did not know MMM.apk. The others I had guessed on but I did not want to chance it until I heard from someone. I am going to try your app with and without those and see what happens. Thanks again!

That's just a floating icon, I just turn it off in the settings.

Okay, so  Ifollowed your instructions last night Darth. However, Idid not find these two apk's, app/TelocationProvider.apk

app/Messaging.apk. Should I have? I rechecked the location you gave me and they were not there. In any case I copied the other three to the sd card and all went well with the rom set up. I have not transfered the three apps from the sd card yet. I am callibrating my battery as I type this in order to take an initial reading. Cleared dalvic and cache one more time also after the rom installation. SO I will report as I can as the day goes on.

Questions.

Though I transfered the three files to the sd card, are they still active while there? Or do I need to bring them back to make them active again?

If I delete them completely, will I be able to get them back simply by reflashing with one of the Kasty roms available? or are they lost for good?

If I can't get them through reflashing the previous roms, are they available in modules or independent apps I can re-load later?

Also ... there is something else I wanted to ask but it excapes me right now.

Oh yeah I remember. If I retransfer those apps back and rename them, will it stop of freeze them from working until I rename them back to their original names?

Any one can answer those for me if possible. I'm just building my knowledge base here :-) . I have downloaded build prop app and managed to rename the tablet back to cube just to see if I could, then changed it back to see if there is a diference with the playstore. Again thanks to Darth for his rom and to all the folks helping out everyone with their bits of knowledge on the processes here!

1. The other two apps seem to have been removed from the recent ROMs.

2. You don't need to clear cache and dalvik-cache after installing my mod; the necessary clearing is done during the installation (actually, before anything else is done - and that is the correct procedure).

3. Once you remove the files from /system/app (and reboot) they are no longer active.

4. If you delete them completely, you can only restore them by copying them back from a backup, or by installing a ROM that has them (e.g., Kasty).

5. "Oh yeah I remember. If I retransfer those apps back and rename them, will it stop of freeze them from working until I rename them back to their original names?"

Don't know. My suspicion is that anything in /system/app will be loaded on boot.

I have uploaded a phone install mod here: http://www.arctablet.com/blog/forum/cube-u30gt2/cube-u30gt2-android-4-2-2-custom-root-firmware-version-2-03-20130606/page-5/#p29583

The phone stuff in it are from the last ROM that is claimed to not drain the battery. I have installed it on my tablet, and the battery life is exactly the same as when I had the phone stuff removed. You can try it and see. If it works, then I can release another version of the DarthJabba firmware mod that has this phone stuff built in.
