I have never tried to set up the dongle to be able to use the phone system of the tablet, but i did one to get my own "hotspot". If I use your rom will it allow me to still use a " hotspot" ?

Also is the phone dongle set up not usable? does anyone know?

I am not having the issue with battery. But I do like the idea of not having to reload my apps each time I fhlash an new rom. If only for that I would download your rom Darth, but not at the cost of something I may want to use later.

Can I ask why you don't just rename the phone apk then if someone wants to use a dongle

all they have to do is rename them again and not go looking for a zip fix?

Also what's the advantage of calling this tablet  GT-P7500 (Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1?

the disadvantage of this is if one uses android lost or Cerberus they won't work correctly.

Just asking  :)

Just asking you Newbi, so it is possible to rename the phone apk? And this would just do what? Sorry, trying to understand. Like I said before, my tablet is not, or I am not recognizing, some of the issues many speak off here. Other than the wifi not being great, I am still having a pretty good experience with my tablet.

I would not mind flashing Darth's new rom, as the one thing I have been looking for is the ability to flash without having to go through the effort of re-downloading my apps, but not at the cost of loosing capabilities I may want to try out eventually, such as using wifi or the phone dongle should I want to treat myself to purchasing a GPS attachment.

SO I am trying to understand all this as I transfer from PC to Android systems. Could you speak to the renaming the phone apk rather than erase it?

Is it possible to flash Darth's rom with the phone.apk to enjoy the other benefits of his rom, or perhaps Darth can speak to that point. I havent even tried it out, but I don't feel I have an issue that would require cutting something off tha I may find I want later on!

Thank you both Darth and Newbi for the topic.

I've never seen that problem. What ROM release was there before?

Have you tried rebooting again?

Awesome, that would be so much easier!! Thanks for that, how soon would you have a ROM in cwm?

It it is available now:

http://www.arctablet.com/users/forum/kastycube_u30gt2422204_20130810rooted4d_darthjabba_201309071424.zip

CUBE U30GT2 Darth Jabba firmware mod; based on kasty-cube_u30gt2-422-204_20130810-cwm_rooted4d

CHANGES (compared with the original Kasty ROM):
1. All applications related to phone functions removed (to stop battery drain). A side-effect is that "About table->Status" will crash the settings app.
2. Some unnecessary library files (relics from removed Chinese apps) have been deleted.
3. Multi-user mode is enabled by default (fw.max_users=5)
4. Some extra apps added to system folder (e.g., Dolphin browser, Reboot)
5. Some extra user apps added (e.g., Bitdefender antivirus, Master Key dual fix, Nova Launcher, Bluebox security scanner, etc.)
6. persist.sys.ui.hw set to "false" (allows some games to play)
7. ro.rk.systembar.tabletUI set to "true" (solves wallpaper stretch problems)
8. Timezone set to Europe/London
9. Language/locale set to GB and English
10. Tablet set to announce itself as GT-P7500 (Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1)

Installation:
1.  Copy this zip file to the tablet's SD card
2.  Reboot the tablet to CWM Recovery
3.  Select "Install zip from sdcard"
4.  Then select "Choose zip from sdcard"
5.  Scroll on the SD card to this zip file, and select it
6.  Confirm that you do want to install it; the installation process will take several minutes.
7.  The tablet will reboot back to the CWM Recovery
8.  Select "Reboot system now"
9.  Go and make a cup of tea and sandwich.
10. Drink the cup of tea and eat the sandwich; make sure you spend at least 10 minutes doing this.
11. Come back to the tablet after 10 minutes. Everything should be ready now.

DISCLAIMER:

You use this mod entirely at your own risk! If your tablet is bricked, then that is too sad. If you are worried about bricking your tablet, then STOP RIGHT NOW !!!

Darth any way to flash your rom without loosing the phone function? Like I said, I am not recognizing that problem with my Cube, but I like what you did with the rest of the rom.

Hi, there were http://www.arctablet.com/blog/forum/cube-u30gt2/cube-u30gt2-android-4-2-2-custom-root-firmware-final-2-04-version-20130810/

as i know, u can update cwm rom from sdcard only with cwm recovery. u are lucky that not brick yr device.

my suggestion:

1, update yr device to kasty-cube_u30gt2-422-204_20130810-cwm_rooted4d.zip with Rockchip Batch Tool 1.7 through usb (both rom and tool can be found in yr link above)

2, and then update DarthJabba's custom cwm rom again through sdcard

it should solve yr problem.

No. It is Phone.apk (and supporting files) draining the battery, so there is no chance of me not removing them until that problem (probably a kernel issue, or a programming issue with Phone.apk itself) is resolved.

If you really must have those files, then copy them from /system/app to your sdcard; and then after installing my mod, you can copy them back from your sdcard to /system/app and then reboot the tablet.

The following users say thank you to DarthJabba for this useful post:

Very cool. Thanks for all your work. Just wanted to know. I haven't made up my mind. Like I said, I haven' recognized that battery drain in my cube. But when I just hearing music I keep it plugged-in on my desk. In the evening if I am reading or playing the one game I play the battery drain does not seem significant. So what I am looking for is the app is the ability to not have to reload all my apps each time a new version is posted.

Don't know if it matters but antutu score was 17363 in my first check yesterday after downloading antutu and about an hour later it was 18449 or so with the wifi on, with the 2.04 final version rom. Still new to android talk so I don't know if thats good, average or bad.

Hmm Darth, newbi here, dont know which files I would need to copy out to the internal card you mean? Then copy back? Don't know how I would do that, if am up to that level of fiddling with that, I'm game for it thought. If any one can perhaps help me out here as time permits I would be happy to pm my email for instruction on this. If you folks can't I understand, I too have aday job. :-) But thanks Darth.

Hi @DarthJabba

Great work. I would always prefer the update.zip format. The only thing I would change are some of the apps. I have just started using 360 Mobile Security for my antivirus and it is rated one of the best, very pleased.

Thanks again

Rob
