What are folks using for internet connections with this rom?
I don't have wifi at my office and wanted to see what I could do. Any needed equipment or app, or whatever. Any suggestions
Ofcourse I am using our one and only kitkat rom for the U30GT2
Well, you haven't told us what you do have at your office. If you have wired networking, then perhaps a micro-usb to ethernet adapter might work. I doubt it - but there's no harm trying. The adapters are cheap enough on eBay.
Yeah, I forgot. Okay so I work for the state of Florida. we have cable wiring which one would need super-god like powers to get permision from the IT department to connect to. But I do work in the field, so besides stopping and sitting for lunch at a wifi enabled location I don't have many choices.
I have a evo design 4g, from freedompop and I wanted to use it as a hotspot/opinions-on-teclast-p90hdther. But they say they are not there yet (of course that would put a knot on their hotspot bussiness if we all started to use the phones rather than the other bread and butter equipment they sell). So from android forum, blue kingdom rom forum, someone mentioned "wifi Tether" app as working on the freedompop phones. So I did download it, It does connect, Cube sees it and accepts signal, but none of the browsers open to a web page. It just says words to the effect that I need an internet connection.
Still trying. But any thoughts? Maybe I need a dongle for it?
Update. Okay so I went back to the stock with FreedomPop and reloaded the "Wifi Tether" app and same thing happens. Cube and phone see each other, good connection, but Cube will not open any pages. I got good 4g connection too.
Evo has 4.0.3 ICS, forgot that.
I guess the isp has put some restrictions on tethering. Try using the "SetDNS" app on the Cube to change the DNS servers to OpenDNS, and then "MyFi" on the Evo for tethering. It just might work ...
PS: perhaps you could also use SetDNS on the Evo too.

Okay, I just hit on something new on this, perhaps someone may be able to shed some additional light on it.
So my carrier, both, but mainly metropcs, is a cdma EvDo rev. A network. When I checked build.prop editor on the tablet I think it is only set up for gsm network. Could that be the problem? I see no cdma settings, just gsm setting, and most of those are blank. and particularly gsm.sim.state is populated by "not ready, gsm.network.type "unknwon., gsm.version.ril-impl is kitkat ril-rk29-dataonly v3.1.00
So could it be changed to accept my phone's tethering? I mean I receive a signal from the phones, but even with the apps I have tried and been suggested the web pages don't open to the internet. I will include a screenshot later tonight of the buildprop are were gsm properties are located. Just seeing if off the top of someones head this may be the problem.
Also I don't know if this has anything to do with it but the ro.tchip.setting.phone_signal is set to false.
at home I have Att wif and its no problem.
PS. I just saw in the discussion forums of Freedompop, my other carrier with cdma, that someone else was having the same problem with their tablet. No problem on his laptop, but problem on the tablet. Don.t know more about it but I left him a message to see what the specs are on his tablet.
Update it is an android tablet.
