Perhaps if you gave more details, one could comment!

Sorry about that Darth. Okay, so I downloaded the rom to my computer, then I extracted the file and downloaded it to my cube. I put the tablet in recovery mode and transferred the file to the tablet. I then proceeded to flash the rom in the usual way, as always, but when I clicked on the rom nothing happened. There was no activity whatsoever. It did not go to the screen offering to proceed.

Now that was on my win 8.1 pc that I rescued from my son and upgraded. Tonight i will try on my stadby vista pc that i have not updated and where I did all my previous flashing. So If i finish early enough I will post that result. could be something in the win 8.1 I don't know. I have downloaded the usual tool to the win 8.1 so i thought it would be a normal operation. I'll report back later.

Duh...lol I was following steps as if it was the old Darth roms. I should read more carefully, so used to just grab and flash.

okay flashed cwm style, loaded fine. Then rebooted but didn't get past the first Chinese logo. Just stayed there. Tried it twice. I was able to re-flash previous rom with no problem.

Did not get past first Chinese logo after flashing cwm style. I was able to get back into recovery easy enough and flash my previous rom.

How long did you wait for before deciding that the upgrade had failed?

15 minutes should be more than long enough. Unfortunately, I can't comment any further.

You're welcome. To be honest, I can't see any reason why it shouldn't work. It is no difference from any of the other CWM packages I have had in the past (i.e., boot, kernel and system) and should be reasonably foolproof. However, there is one difference. In the past, most people have been upgrading from one "standard" Kasty ROM to another. Here, you might be going from a standard Kasty ROM to a slightly different one (based on Funrom, rather than stock). If the Funrom ROM requires stock recovery to do some stuff after installation (which many ROMs do - but then it depends on exactly what that stuff is), then a CWM upgrade could pretty much fail. I suspect that this might be the case here.

Well whatever it is that needs to be done you probably are not far from it. I was able to go right back into recovery with no problems, unlike the problems others reported after a failed flashing of other roms.

Perhaps what is needed is something like the "format NAND fix" stuff that Oma releases with his ROMs (to be run after installation). It seems that stock recoveries often (if not always) do something like that after a fresh ROM upgrade.

Ok, let's do some quick testing ;-)

Cube U30GT2 has RK903 wifi.

Just finished an approach for a generic KK build, which is here: http://www.arctablet.com/blog/forum/crewrktablets-rk3188-entwicklung-customroms-development-croms/rom-kiano-elegance-android-4-4-2-kitkat-custom-root-firmware-20140610/#p43136

Before flash just replace the kernel in folder rockdev/Images: http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/?wpfb_dl=1817

Model fix (install via CWM): http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/?wpfb_dl=1823

Just to be sure: the model fix is running?

Definition is in init.rk30board.rc. To verify can you pls test this boot? http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/?wpfb_dl=1849

Or and this;

Model Fix works correctly rotate, not work auto brightness

thanks

Ok, we need to add a few lines to the init process. Cube is still of the opinion that this is a rk28board ;-)

#backlight
    chown system system /sys/class/backlight/rk28_bl/brightness
    chown system system /sys/class/backlight/rk28_bl/bl_power
    chmod 0664 /sys/class/backlight/rk28_bl/bl_power

Pls flash this boot.img (just tick parameter and boot): http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/?wpfb_dl=1846

I'm not too sure about all this. It's quite straightforward to create a "format_NAND" fix - mostly, it should be as simple as using or slightly editing one of Oma's own fixes. From what I can see, the partition layout for rk3188 seems to be

/dev/block/mtdblock6 = cache

/dev/block/mtdblock7 = data

/dev/block/mtdblock8 = system

/dev/block/mtdblock10 = internal SD

Perhaps Oma can verify that this is always the case?

If it is the case, then Oma's existing RK31 format_NAND fixes should do the job - or the CWM ROM upgrade package itself can format mtd blocks 6, 7, and 10 after installation.

However, doing this would defeat one of the advantages of a CWM upgrade (keeping your apps and settings) if you format the data partition!

The question is whether it is not formatting /cache/data/NAND that is causing your problem. It may be that the problem lies elsewhere (e.g., different parameters configurations, of boot.img is expecting a very specific parameters configuration, and your existing installation is based on a different parameter file).
