Find below some test overclocked and stock kernels for the Kasty KitKat 4.4.2 ROM, in CWM update format.

The overclocked kernels are based on the "T14" DarthJabba overclock scheme.

The zip file below should be unzipped. It contains several kernels in CWM format. The kind of kernel involved (i.e., what is overclocked, and to what extent) is reflected in the name of each zip file.

Download:

1. http://www.arctablet.com/users/forum/DJ_kitkat_kernel_repository.zip

NOTE: these are test kernels, for use on a beta ROM. Use entirely at your own peril. Something can go wrong at any time. If you brick your tablet, don't ask me any questions, because I won't answer.

If you don't know how to unbrick your tablet, then you would be well advised to leave these test kernels well alone. You have been warned!

 Installation:
To install this kernel you must have CWM Recovery installed, and you must have a Kasty KitKat 4.4.2 ROM for Cube U30GT2 from arctablet.com. Extract all the zip files from the above download, then follow these steps;

0. Remove any external SD card
1.  Copy the CWM update zip file that you want to the tablet's internal SD card (NAND)
2.  Reboot the tablet to CWM Recovery
3.  Select "Install zip from sdcard"
4.  Then select "Choose zip from sdcard"
5.  Scroll on the SD card to this zip file, and select it
6.  Confirm that you do want to install it
7.  The tablet will reboot back to the CWM Recovery
8.  Select "Reboot system now"
9.  Wait for 5 minutes after rebooting, and, hopefully, all will be well.

Took the plunge a few minutes ago. First boot went black after the second cube image appeared and had to reboot. Stupid me I did not wait the 5 minutes. Second start updated everything and loaded good. Will report later.

Woah that was a scarry ride for me and my Cube. Okay, so I had one FC while i was trying to open my stock browser, Oh I was on the kitkat launcher because after that last mod I got from android police everything was going smooth. Anyway, the brouser got stuck on a blank page, so I had to close it. opened chrome, it was okay, opened dolphin, okay. Opened the new google magazine app, cool, coming along fine, turned my face to answer the wife, turned back to tablet, nothing force closed to the second chinese cube caricature as it was rebooting itself. then it got stuck in a bootloop before I managed to turn tablet off. Powered it up and let it load...bootloop. Turned it off, power up, bootloop. power up, managed to get it going  and it started to reload update of apps and stuff. Got to desktop and I had to choose set launchers again with no apps on desktop. All my apps were in the app pages, but nothing in the initial desktop. So I managed to reboot to recovery and I went back to T14.

That was using T15/ddr 720.

Maybe it was my experience, but it did not seem ready for prime time yet.

Thanks DarthJabba, for the great job and documentation, as usual Wink

If you allow it and the users feedback is positive, I could add these kernels to ArcTools packages.

Cheers.

Here's my findings...

First tried with DDR528 OC. Bootup time to lockscreen and complete load unchanged. Still slow UI. No crashes, lockups or freezes. Seems stable, but 68Mhz shouldn't make any changes visible anyway.

Then I flashed DDR600 OC. Bootup times still same as before (I would say ultra-slow internal memory is the bottleneck). Everything the same as before. That's all with my current live wallpaper, two somewhat heavy widgets and Next Launcher 3D. Maybe the stock setup would be somewhat better, but in my case, not any different.

After that, I tried to flash DDR720 OC, despite the issues maikal have posted. I got a bootloop too. Even before the first bootup. Several forced shutdowns didn't help. Also couldn't get into the recovery mode. I left it powered off for 10 minutes, and tried again, but that didn't help either. Then I thought that maybe the ram doesn't have enough juice/voltage to beat at 720Mhz, so I connected my tablet to a wall charger and immediately pressed Power and VolumeUp buttons to get into recovery. That did the trick, but flashing back to DDR600 got stuck on "flashing kernel" CWM message. I did a forced shutdown and tried that all over again, and the flashing went ok.

Now I'm back in the game, and will do some more tests @600Mhz. For now AnTuTu is stable, but I get a miserable score of only 16,800 (an average of 3 tests in a row, being 15,700 the lowest). Before I had 19,600! Also everything seems slower compared to the first time I flashed to DDR600. Maybe something else went wrong after flashing to DDR720 and those bootloops. I'll try flashing stock beta kernel again and the one with default DDR speed (but CPU@1.8Ghz).

I must say that I did not experience any bootloop or other such problem with any of them. It may be significant that I always flash via CWM with the power cable connected (and the battery charged up to 100%). You may wish to try that. I have flashed each of them several times, and have had no problem at all. But, like I said earlier, perhaps the Cube people know something that we don't know ...

The ddr600 patch is problematic, in that it seems to fail to run at 600mhz, instead defaulting to the next available lower speed (~350mhz - I can't check at the moment). So it will be slower than molasses. I will check up on that later.

Hmmm ... As for scariness, even if the tablet seems to have died, if you run the RKAndroidTool, it should see the tablet, and you will easily be able to flash with it a safe kernel (e.g., the stock one, or T14) - just make sure that the bootloader and the parameter file are ticked, and that the right kernel image is selected (and the kernel is also ticked).

As for ddr720, I will do some more tweaks over the weekend, and may release different versions of it, until we get one that works for everyone. It may well be that this is impossible. Looking at the kernel sources, the line for 528mhz ddr was commented out. This may be quite significant - i.e., they couldn't get it to work reliably on all devices beyond 460mhz. If this is the case, then even ddr528 will fail on some devices.

OK, I'll apply that step to my future flashings :)

Then I suppose that is the problem I'm having. Now I flashed back to 1.8@460 and I'm close to 19k.

I'm good, I re-flashed t14 from my back-up and then reflashed my backed up packet from recovery. everything seems good as of this minute!

But I must confess I was not in the position you outlined. SO Tonight I will charge the tablet all the way and reflash according to your parameters in the post, through the cable and fully loaded.

Just stopping by to report a successful flashing of top clocked T15 kernel on my 4.4.2 "custom beta 2". Have managed to flash it using RKAndroid just fine. No issues booting and running Android and apps so far either.

Boost of 2D performance is amazing compared to painfully sluggish stock 4.4.2, it's almost as responsive as JB 4.2.2 now. Almost. Well done! Can't comment on other aspects like battery life.

Wait, there is already a "Custom Beta 2" rom for 442?

I saw the post on that last update from 51.cube, but I did not see a custom 2 made from it!

It's so called beta2. Actualy it's not an official one, but customized by someone else. So, not from Cube.
